16.01.2022 FIRE AT WALLSEND POST OFFICE There is currently a major fire at the Wallsend post office, located in the Wallsend Village. Our amazing crew from Fire and Re...scue NSW Station 484 Wallsend are on scene and have gained entry to the post office and are currently battling the blaze. Please avoid the area if possible. Updates to follow. 6:55pm - the fire has been extinguished, heavy smoke in the shop. Sprinklers have been activated so there is some water damage. Police and ambulance are on scene. They are venting the store and the shopping centre. 7:55pm - Fire and Rescue NSW Station 377 Minmi and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 484 Wallsend have extinguished the fire and are leaving the site. Australia Post will assess the site and provide an update later as to the damage caused and when the shop might reopen. 9:00pm update - Conforming there was no damage to other stores. Wallsend Village will be open and trading tomorrow with the exception of Australia Post, who may be closed temporarily. You can contact Centre Management between 9am - 5pm with enquiries, 02 4951 1622.

12.01.2022 STOLEN PLANTS WALLSEND At some stage over the long weekend, someone has stolen plants from these planter boxes along Nelson Street, Wallsend. This one outsid...e of Cafe Tempest even had the potting mix and soil stolen. The planter boxes were a project by the Wallsend Town Business Association and handmade by Art Mania Studio. Anyone who knows or saw anything, please let Newcastle City Police District or me know.
