25.01.2022 ELECTRICAL SAFETY IN AND AROUND THE HOME Ask your children to identify all of the electrical safety hazards that they can think of in and around the home. Discuss what might happen when people are not aware of the potential hazards around electricity. Ask your children to explain the need for rules for safe behaviour around electricity.... Remind your children of the following safety messages - Don’t play near electrical equipment or powerlines. - If you see a dangerous situation, tell an adult. - Know what to do in an electrical emergency. - Be safe. 22.01.2022 People use electric appliances every day to help them accomplish household tasks quickly. An appliance receives electrical power through its plug in a household electrical outlet. Because some of the power the appliance receives is lost to waste heat, the plug may become warm to the touch. A plug that is hot to the touch, however, may pose a danger to you and your home. 20.01.2022 This is a big one. So many people think they won't spill their drink, or knock something over. But it's so easy to do in the blink of an eye. Having household rules such as no drinks near the laptop, or even a drink bottle instead of a cup, can often save you thousands, not to mention any hazards it may cause. 12.01.2022 Cold-water washing means clothing is less likely to shrink or fade and ruin clothes. As well as saving electricity costs with heating the water, cold water can also reduce wrinkles, which saves energy costs (and time) associated with ironing as well. 11.01.2022 Frayed or damaged extension cords are dangerous and should never be used. Damage to the cord can expose wires and cause fire and shock hazards.

10.01.2022 This is a pretty basic one, but it's a good to know particulars. If you have children thinking of a career path as an electrician, get them to research and understand what's involved. There's a lot of study and on the job learning, but I love what I do, and love serving my clients. It's not just about the electrical side of things. Being an electrician, at least in the residential industry is also about your clients. Listening to people, understanding what's needed and giving respect such as cleaning up after yourself. 08.01.2022 Anyone who does electrical work in Qld must have an electrical work license or an electrical contractor license. Licensed electrical contractors are required to meet specific insurance requirements. You can check your electrician's license to confirm it is valid and current before they do any work using the electrical license holder search at http://electricalsafety.qld.gov.au. We proudly display our license and are happy to provide any additional details for your peace of mind. Unfortunately Covid has seen a few more 'electricians' with new businesses on the road, so please take the time to check these important details.

08.01.2022 If you receive any emails or notices about recalls on your appliances, HEED THE WARNING! You will have a short window of time to replace the item under the company's warranty, so take advantage of it ASAP.

07.01.2022 Always take care and assume overhead powerlines are live and potentially dangerous. Land owners are responsible for keeping trees on their property safely clear from wires that connect to homes and property, including private mains. Only licensed contractors should trim trees around the electricity network.

06.01.2022 This tip is vital if you use outdoor lighting for parties or Christmas etc. It's always safer to just install a few extra power points around the home, or outdoors if required. It saves on overloading, but also the hazards of having additional cords around. Give me a call if you'd like to discuss installing additional points.

05.01.2022 Just like our last post, it's best to avoid this situation all together and keep water away from appliances or in this case appliances away from water. But if something does happen, always turn the appliance off first. In fact I would also recommend you turn your power off at the safety switch before retrieving anything electrical from water. Remember to educate children and other household members about electrical hazards with water. We'd love to remind you to check out our posts from last week which was Electrical Safety Week.
