20.01.2022 SAVE ON STAMP DUTY! The New South Wales government has announced a plan to change the way tax is paid on property in the state. The new arrangements will give people the option to choose between the current system of paying stamp duty when buying a house, or instead paying a small annual property tax for as long as they own the house.... Analysis of that proposal by the Grattan Institute’s Coates shows an owner-occupier purchasing a home at Sydney’s current median price of $1.15 million would pay stamp duty of $48,500. But if that buyer opted for the new property tax instead, they would pay about $2230 annually. That amount would then rise slowly over time due to indexation.
