24.01.2022 Sorrento Additions - Going Up Rear extensions ready for roofing and the new basement garage is coming out of the ground ready for the living space over to integrate with the existing upper level of the house and rear yard. This complete makeover by the beach is starting to take shape and open up from its 1970s constricted plan.

22.01.2022 Who needs fancy CAD software - Excel Sketch Plans anyone? We have seen many different client drawing methods over the years from napkins to envelopes to power point layouts, but last week had a first with a client giving us his sketch layout as an excel document. Love that everyone has there own little creative outlet and couldnt guess what profession he is in.... :)

22.01.2022 Burns Beach Residence - Covering up the skeleton Latest pics from the site. Roof cover is on and defining the final built form behind the scaffold.... The skeletal framing of the eaves is complete and awaiting its custom cladding to give the roof its unique form. Looking forward to working down from the top now that the roofing is on! A sneak peak of the cantilever stair which will have solid reclaimed ironbark treads floating from the limestone wall. Giving away all our trade secrets with the behind the scenes shots!

22.01.2022 Royal Lagoon Golf Course Estate - South China Update Works are well under way now with around 50% of these luxury 1500 sqm residences overlooking the Hill View Golf Course. Built at the base of the Wuzhi Mountain, a 150m high ridge that splits the city of Dongguan, these residence step up the steep hillside providing amazing views across the local landscape.... We wrapped up our role master planning and providing initial house concepts in 2012, with the developer taking these designs and evolving to their current plan with a few tweaks. Works commenced early 2014 and progress quickly in China with image below from November. Chasing up our contacts to see if we can get some images on the ground of the finished buildings.

22.01.2022 Attadale Residence - Narrow block - spacious design. On a narrow 9.6m duplex block with a tight budget, the clients had exhausted the standard project home route and wanted something custom designed for their lifestyle. We thus created an open plan layout with a simple elegant modern aesthetic to meet the clients family needs.... An east facing central courtyard brings light into both levels of the house and allows for natural ventilation throughout the plan. This courtyard acts as a central sculptural landscape hub viewed from all living areas whilst the rear yard allows active open play for the kids and a feature pool. The upper level sneaks city views to the north from the master suite and study, whilst the family room opens to the street facing deck with views back over the suburb. Feature kitchen with view to the yard, hidden scullery, big alfresco and secret cellar are all part of the plans. Clever well thought out architecture = ecstatic client - in their words literally "jumping up and down with happiness!" :)

22.01.2022 City Beach Residence - Unveiled.... The scaffold is down and WOW - this contemporary beach shack is really tacking shape! We love the timber detailing on this one (Great work Kurt @ All Build Construct) and this timber framed, passive solar, low maintenance home is coming into its own over its first summer.... Inside, the linings are almost done and time for the joinery and tiling to start shortly. Concealed timber doors are a funky addition to the foyer taking the timber cladding lines right through the house, blending inside and out seamlessly. The layout of rooms, windows and atrium spaces allows ample natural light & ventilation whilst maximising the clients privacy through clever planning. Really looking forward to the final stages of this project and seeing the end result.

18.01.2022 Burns Beach - Slab poured & walls underway. Black polished concrete slab pour complete and curing before polish. Perimeter fences, walls and lift shaft going up in the mean time.... Local Quarry Cut limestone face blocks are looking great!

17.01.2022 Kaida Village - South China Project Update - Turns ground We are excited to see that the hard work we put in several years ago is finally coming to fruition for this massive 400,000 sqm project in South China. Designed as a working community 8km south of the Dongguan City Centre, the project provides a work, rest and play facility based around technology companies accommodated in the commercial facilities.... Stage 1 commenced in November and whilst the design and approval process has taken nearly 5 years, the build is happening very quickly. Stage 1 entails office tower, retail mall, hotel, townhouse and luxury residential homes around a lakeside setting. Technical challenges included a 4 storey basement car park with lake over, relocating natural water courses to feed new lakes and dealing with heavy clay soils for tower footings and excavation works. Certainly a different approach to sustainable design, but a very interesting project to work on.

15.01.2022 Office Christmas lights Some mornings in the office are just plain fun! Playing with our version of office Christmas lights (....cladding panel lighting mockups!!) for a great new retail concept that will hit the streets of Perth in the new year.... 14.01.2022 Burns Beach Residence - going up Works on the first floor are starting to take shape with feature limestone and steel going up. Roof frames due shortly, cant wait to see the full form of this contemporary design by the beach.

14.01.2022 Burns Beach Residence - Site progress All services and tanks in the ground, wall and lift footings going in today with polished concrete slab going in next week. Pool shell scaffolded so brickwork can start as soon as slab ready.... Cant wait to see the rich dark colour of the concrete contrast with the local limestone feature wall blocks. Still a beautiful view even with the light drizzle today!

14.01.2022 Hamersley Early Learning & Development Centre - The design child within... With a focus on bringing out our inner child (not to difficult!!) we are currently designing the conversion of old consulting rooms into a new vibrant Child Care facility on Beach Road in Hamersley. Key features are a playground focus on natural learning opportunities in the landscape design and creating simple yet elegant indoor learning and play spaces.... Works to start on site early 2015 with centre to open August / September.

12.01.2022 Burns Beach Residence - Blocking in the view Progressing to complete ground floor brick & block work this week before forming up first floor next week. Not a bad view from the lounge room - just need to add the glass doors.... The feature floor level window to the pool will be amazing with TV, joinery and fireplace above in the lounge room. The builders are enjoying the feature limestone blocks ...... and another beautiful day by the beach - warming up for summer.

09.01.2022 Burns Beach Residence - Formwork shaping up Upper floor formwork now in place and building taking shape. Cant wait to get up there and see the final view!

09.01.2022 City Beach Residence - Whats inside the box... Has been a while since we called past this one as the owner builder has been taking it slow. But now its taking form and with scaffold due to come down next week, its like waiting to unwrap a Christmas present when you know what it is....... So many funky details which have been beautifully done by the carpenters. Windows are all in and inside is ready for insulation and sheeting. Hoping to see the project finished early next year.

08.01.2022 Burns Beach - A Daily Grind So first cut of the charcoal polished concrete slab complete. Hmmm - you might say! ... But an early glimpse of the final beautiful finish to come... Excitement is all in the detail! :)

06.01.2022 Burns Beach Residence - Works Update First floor slab poured last week and formwork stripped today. Some cool minimal engineering holding up the first floor and allowing a wall of glass to the ocean views. Internal sense of space is taking shape for the open plan kitchen / living / dining area with the views to the beach and pool now fully framed.... The clients can also now appreciate the extent of the view down the coast from their bedrooms.

We are always trying to capture great shots of our finished work, but sometimes the Iphone is not enough and we have to call in the pros to work their magic and present the true spirit of the design. 05.01.2022 Sorrento Additions - Going down Demo complete on the rear section of the additions with internal services now installed to new kitchen / bathroom areas and walls about to come back up shortly. Builder will then move to the front of the house where they are relocating a grand old palm to allow excavation for new garage and living area works over.

04.01.2022 Sorrento Additions - Ocean glimpse coming soon Our Sorrento project is moving along with upper floor slab going in over the new basement garage this week to create a huge living space extension which grabs a small slice of ocean view over the neighbours roof tops. Rear half of the extension has the roof on and the interior is rapidly shaping up with ceilings in, joinery & tiling underway and awesome granite bench tops measured up. Works on driveway and front yard starting soon to reshape the sand pit. The clients are very excited for handover in late May, builder is less so, but will get there!!

04.01.2022 City beach Residence - detail timber design Timber detailing taking shape with screens and pergola completed this week. Internal feature walls and plasterboard underway starting to express the internal forms and links to external landscape. ... Start of summer and this passive solar design is already performing well to meet the clients low impact esd living brief.

03.01.2022 Bayswater Residence - Park Views and open plan family living Our latest design for a small square sloping site opposite the park in Bayswater. We are excited to be working on our second project with this client to create a long term home for their family. After 15 months of looking at sites (5 sites, 3 concepts, 2 gazumped offers!) they are excited to have secured this site and love the design.... The key design aspect of the project was to make every square metre of the 499 sqm site count in creating an adaptable long term home for their family with 4 young kids. Each space in the home, both indoor and out has been designed to allow open plan living, yet be separable to accommodate the needs of growing family. Over three levels, the lower level is a bedroom zone with pool and courtyard raised from the street. The mid level is the main living zone and flows to large alfresco and yard area with side access off the laneway. Tucked over the garage is a parents retreat with master suite, study and private deck to relax and escape the daily grind. On a tight budget to produce a large house, we have worked hard with materials and construction system to create an architectural form that the client loves. We look forward to construction starting in the new year.

03.01.2022 Sorrento Additions - Works underway Works started this week on major renovation to this beachside residence in Sorrento to create a new family home. Complete internal refurbishment with new garage, living and bedroom space additions, plus new landscape works to the front yard and a thorough external makeover will modernise the functionality of the old house for its growing family. ... Builder has a cracking timeline, so look forward to seeing this one undergoing rapid change!

01.01.2022 Burns Beach Residence - Slab pour today First pour of the black polished concrete slab going down today. Looking forward to pour 2 and the first cut polish next week. Brick and block work also started in the foreground.... Beautiful day to get project moving after recent weather.

01.01.2022 Hillarys Refurbishment - Stage 1 Works Stage 1 pool and deck areas well underway with a happy client. We took their brief for a new pool in the back yard, improved landscape areas and if possible a new look for the street facade, then turned it on its head.... Our design takes the odd shape block which backs onto park and street on 3 sides and creates a fantastic new feature pool utilising an unused area of side setback. The new pool located creates a focal point from the street with feature walls and landscape beds, plus in combination with minor faade modifications will give the home a total new look. A tight budget means using a fibreglass pool, but with quality paving and landscaping it will have a well detailed beautiful finish. Pool goes in this week - cant wait! See the before and current shots.
