24.01.2022 Before Carol & Kelly returned to New Mexico, they kindly bought and installed this fully-equipped First Aid kit in our garden shed. We now are prepared for most emergencies; we only hope we aren't called upon to use it. Many thanks and we hope Carol & Kelly are enjoying their endless summers.

19.01.2022 We're celebrating TEN years of gardening! Celebrate with us by sharing pictures of your beautiful gardens. What are you growing in your gardens? How are you caring for, and enjoying your garden during the lockdown? https://living.cityofadelaide.com.au/walyu-yarta-community/

09.01.2022 The garden lost a dear friend when, earlier this month, Angus Blue lost his fight with cancer. These two photos taken by Carol Matthews remind us of Angus's involvement with the garden: part of the watering roster in 2012 before he designed and installed our irrigation system; and helping us decide where to place the mosaic butterflies in 2014. Vale, Angus.

08.01.2022 We are currently planting varieties of Broad Beans. So here's some information about Broad Beans written by Lili Donaldson for our 10th Anniversary booklet. The Broad Bean is a perfect example of the root-to-bloom concept. The entire plant is edible, from its leaves, stem and flowers, all the way to its prized pods. The pods are palatable at any size although best when young, still nestled in their tender castings. Nutritional value Broad beans are high in potassium, protein ...and fibre as well as vitamin A, B1 and B2. They have no saturated fat or cholesterol. When to plant Broad beans are best grown from seed and can be planted from autumn to early spring but will perish at the first sign of summer. Sweet and crisp foliage can be picked from about 6 weeks, once the plant has established. Pick sparingly so as not to affect the development of the flowers and pods. Pick young, whole broad beans from about week 14, when they are still small and tender. Larger beans develop an outer skin that some consider tough, but this can be removed. Broad beans are the ultimate nitrogen-fixer, replenishing the soil with this much-needed garden commodity. See more
