23.01.2022 As this week draws to a close, we want to acknowledge the importance of NAIDOC week in celebrating Aboriginal Culture. The theme, "Always Was, Always Will Be" resonates with us as we strive to integrate Aboriginal culture into all of our programs and in our conversations around sustainability. We were fortunate to work with the amazing and enthusiastic students from Dubbo South Primary School this week, in celebrating NAIDOC week. On Wednesday, we also acknowledged Rememberance Day through a very respectful moments silence.

21.01.2022 Here at Wambangalang Environmental Education Centre we are proud to announce that we have received a Tree Levy Grant from The New South Wales Teacher's Federation to go towards new tree plantings and shade producing shrubs for our school! We have already been busy planting, and the new additions to our revitalised camping area are flourishing. With the help of the NSWTF $600 grant, we have been able to purchase twelve new native bird-attracting plants including Red Capped Gums and beautiful Callistemons that are flowering vigorously already. Next time you visit, come and have a look - they are looking spectacular!

21.01.2022 Early Stage 1 students from Dubbo PS took part in a unique Wombat Stew themed day recently where they were given the opportunity to develop an awareness and understanding of the characteristics and the needs and uses of living things. After reading the giant Wombat Stew picture book, students planned, created and taste-tested their very own Wombat Stew using fruit and yogurt. It was interesting watching the students looking at insect specimens using the bug viewers and then designing and making their own bugs to take home. Later in the day students followed a list of procedures to make their own gooey Wombat stew using ingredients straight out of the picture book - gumnuts, feathers, mud, sticks and plastic bugs.

20.01.2022 Citizen Science provides wonderful opportunities for everyone to get involved with meaningful science! The Wambangalang platypus surveys have provided valuable data on local populations of platypus. Wambangalang EEC is due to host its second platypus survey for 2020. If you would like more information or to be involved:

17.01.2022 With the restrictions of the recent epidemic lifting it is great to have students visiting our Centre again to enjoy a day in the forest, taking part in Initiative Games, BMX Skills and a forest ride, Orienteering and investigating Nature Art. Dubbo Christian School students in Stage 2 were lucky to get their activities in on Monday when the promised rain began to fall just after their bus left the Centre. The students showed great team work on the ropes course and were challenged by the initiative games. The Nature Art session after lunch is a great program to unwind after such a busy day.

03.01.2022 "Learn as much as you can about the culture and participate." - Aunty Deanna. Each year, NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who are part of some of the oldest continuing cultures on the planet. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NAIDOC2020 *Posted by the NSW Department of Education*
