25.01.2022 We are so excited to have our own organic, home grown pineapple! We started with the top of a pineapple which was planted in our garden almost 2years ago... after a lot of patience it's almost ready to eat!

21.01.2022 We have named our first release "Joy", it felt like the perfect name after the joy she has brought us today :)

17.01.2022 This week we have been investigating the ocean for National Science Week and our Yellow Koalas have been discussing the impact of oil spills. One of the ways they have explored this is through recreating an oil spill and observing the results, particularly how it spreads and effects animals, including washing them. They continued this concept by observing the impact of rubbish in our oceans and waterways and how easily it spreads also. Thank you to our future scientists!

14.01.2022 Planning, expressing thoughts, documenting thoughts, sorting and classifying, visual arts, sustainability, teamwork and mathematical concepts have all come together to create a fire breathing dragon! What a morning in our Orange Wombat room!

14.01.2022 Our tepee is well on the way to being covered with delicious snow peas! We're looking forward to the magical environment that will be created for the children as they sit inside and explore their world from a new perspective

14.01.2022 We've had a very busy morning in the Cottage Garden! We are very excited about our collaboration with Kelly who is a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Coordinator and this started today with a visit from Kelly and lots of work in the Cottage Garden! The children helped to plant out some new garden beds with lots of herbs and vegetables - some with seeds and some with seedlings. The children helped to fill pots with soil and this involved estimating how many containers of soi...l it might take. Our morning spent gardening also promoted lots of discussion amongst the children about their experiences gardening at home and with their grandparents

11.01.2022 A very big thank you to Soul Tree Creative and the CCLHD Munch and Move team for the informative Kitchen Garden workshop held at Juniors last night! Our team, and visitors from others services, left the workshop feeling inspired to continue promoting healthy eating and the benefits of gardening - science, nature, environment, recycling, health and home grown food.

09.01.2022 Juniors at Wamberal are operating as normal! You'll find soap, paper towel, hand sanitiser and tissues available to use as part of our everyday procedures. Be kind and take care of each other during these uncertain times

08.01.2022 Sowing and harvesting time already! We all spent time in the garden connecting with nature today and returned with cos lettuce, bok choy, zucchini, tomatoes and radishes. 18 radishes! These made delicious tasting plates to share at afternoon tea. We were hard at work sowing 120 snow pea seeds that will grow to cover our garden tepee as well.... Many hands make light work! And full tummies!

08.01.2022 Are you a parent or guardian? If a child is unwell, do not send them to childcare or school. Promote good hand hygiene and keep them at home until the symptoms resolve.

07.01.2022 The butterfly hatching program has arrived this morning! So far we have 3 young caterpillars already powering through their leaves and with more eggs to arrive next week we hope to have an enclosure full of butterflies soon!

06.01.2022 All hands on deck! Our Purple Koalas have been working on a group art piece to continue their love of art and sensory play. This collaborative work has been developing over the past few weeks and the end result is a beautiful display of colour and art techniques

05.01.2022 Our Yellow Koala children have been working on a special project recently - making their own resources! The children made the salt dough and then with the assistance of our Educators they created the shapes and painted an amazing assortment of foods to use for dramatic play!

04.01.2022 It has happened - the butterflies have begun to hatch! With all the news lately this amazing moment has brought us lots of joy this morning! :)

04.01.2022 Thank you to Miss Carolina for sharing bike safety information with us today and showing us how you ride your motorbike! In the words of the children "you're so cool Miss Carolina!"

03.01.2022 Team work makes the dream work! Our Green Wombats brought their strong muscles and team work skills today to help transport lots of river stones to our outdoor area. We have many plans for the stones but first we have to get them in our play space! Throughout the day the river stones have provided opportunities to create camp fires, construct, balance on stepping stones and develop a few manual handling skills!

02.01.2022 Road safety is a hot topic of conversation for our Green Wombats at the moment! Today the children spent time working on scissor skills (another big interest!) as they cut out the colours of traffic lights. This interest has made its way around the room to include dough play, construction play and around the edges of the mat to form a long road. We are deepening our understanding of symbolism, everyday literacy and numeracy, fine motor skill refinement and safety out and about in our community!

02.01.2022 For those with children who may find it hard to explain what is going on, this makes a lovely bedtime story. The Time We Spring-Cleaned the World The world it got so busy,... There were people all around. They left their germs behind them; In the air and on the ground. These germs grew bigger and stronger. They wanted to come and stay. They didn’t want to hurt anyone - They just really wanted to play. Sometimes they tried to hold your hand, Or tickled your throat or your nose. They could make you cough and sneeze And make your face as red as a rose. And so these germs took over. They started to make people ill, And with every cough we coughed More and more germs would spill. All the queens and kings had a meeting. It’s time to clean the world up! they said. And so they had to close lots of fun stuff, Just so these germs couldn’t spread. We couldn’t go to cinemas Or restaurants for our tea. There was no football or parties, The world got as quiet as can be. The kids stopped going to school, The mums and dads went to work less. Then a great, big, giant scrubbing brush Cleaned the sky and the sea and the mess! Dads started teaching the sums, Big brothers played with us more, Mums were in charge of homework And we read and played jigsaws galore! The whole world was washing their hands And building super toilet roll forts! Outside was quiet and peaceful, Now home was the place for all sports. So we played in the world that was home And our days filled up with fun and love, And the germs they grew smaller and smaller And the sun watched from up above. Then one morning the sun woke up early, She smiled and stretched her beams wide. The world had been fully spring cleaned, It was time to go back outside! We opened our doors oh so slowly And breathed in the clean and fresh air. We promised thar forever and always Of this beautiful world we’d take care! Author ~ Louise Gribbons Hunterhouse College Have a fantastic weekend everyone and we'll see you (or FaceTime you next week!)
