24.01.2022 Last term, I had the opportunity to be involved in 4 'live streaming" sessions whereby students from all over Australia joined a Video Conference, hosted by Kimberlin Education and MLA to learn more about beef production in North Queensland. Usually, this would be done in a studio in Sydney, however, COVID put a stop to that. So live streaming it was...The students were mostly upper primary school and high school students and I believe we had more than 800 join in across th...e 4 sessions. The sessions went for 45 minutes and I had lots and lots of questions to answer as well as providing basic information on some aspects of living and working on a cattle station in NQ and the process of prodcuing beef. In this video, I was asked about what all the numbers and markings mean on the cattle. For the session, I chose a spot outside our house yards, which was close enough for me to access the internet but still had a "rural background" with some little weaners in the yards. However, the slighter bigger weaners, outside the yards, decided they would follow our house dog up the path, right towards me...Whilst disaster was adverted (the weaners picked up the pace a little and ran directly behind me, rattling the panels a bit and causing a bit of "action" for the viewers), Michael, who happened to be filming and taking a few photos, tells me he was ready to intervene if necessary. 22.01.2022 We’re back! Wambiana Station FB page has been very quiet for the past 18 months. But not because life was quiet on the Station it was quite the opposite! There’s been renovations, business succession and lots of changes on the family front as children headed off to boarding schools. We welcomed back our regular schools and universities, hosted field days, tour groups, workshops and lots of other researchers and visitors. A Genetics Study trip to the USA, family visit to ...Vanuatu and of course, continuing to develop our herd and manage 57 000 acres meant that FB posts never quite made it to the top of the list! But with a new decade beginning, we thought it was about time we kept up (a little) with social media and continue to share what we do in the Educational Tourism Space as well as share some positive stories from a family-owned, northern grazing property. We’ll try to keep you posted (pun intended)! See more

20.01.2022 For many students (and teachers), learning how to pregnancy test a cow is a once in a lifetime experience. The long gloves are always greatly appreciated.....

20.01.2022 There are many facets to biodiversity research and in the past few years, we have hosted researchers studying geckos, bettongs, soil surface bacteria, feral pigs, as well as the annual field trips by JCU zoology students who study anything that they can capture an release. And of course, the Wambiana Grazing Trial which has been underway since 1997. Some of the researchers have travelled from Israel, Argentina, China, South Africa, USA, Canada, Uruguay and other countries that I can't recall - it makes dinner conversation very colourful at times!

18.01.2022 Just one of the many unique experiences the students at Wulguru State School got up to during their Year 5 camp at Wambiana Station...

17.01.2022 We had the pleasure of hosting such an energetic, enthusiastic and well-mannered group of Year 6 students from St Joseph's the Strand this week. Lots of laughter and noise = having a good time, and having a go. Hope you all have a good rest this weekend!

15.01.2022 We were recently interviewed about our grazing management strategies. It's an area of our business that we are always looking to improve, in our efforts to "work with nature" as much as possible.

14.01.2022 An interesting article by researchers at JCU looking at biodiversity on the Wambiana Trial site and how well managed grazing practices can be beneficial to both biodiversity and profitability https://labdownunder.com/a-win-win-cattle-farms-can-make-a/

14.01.2022 Thank you St Joseph's School the Strand for another wonderful Year 6 camp. We are always impressed with the enthusiam, insightful questions, wonderful manners and "can do" attitude. We look forward to seeing you again next year.

11.01.2022 Last week, I was fortunate to spend 2 days in Sydney as part of MLA’s Australian Good Meat program to co-present with Kimberlin Education via videoconference into schools across Australia. My role was to share our story on how we live/work on a property, care for our livestock, choose cattle that are suited to our climate zone, use technology and how we try to be sustainable in a northern grazing context. Over 4 x 45 minute sessions, over 70 primary schools participated and approximately 3500 students. I was really impressed with the genuine engagement, level of awareness of drought and its impacts and the number of questions asked. Whilst not every student has the opportunity to get onto a farm or property, it is great to see that technology can bring the farmer to the classroom to engage with them .

07.01.2022 All set for St Joey's Year 6 camp arriving soon....

04.01.2022 We're pleased to announce that we now have a website! Please check out www.wambianastation.com.au to find out about Wambiana's activities, accommodation and much, much more for our farmstay, tour and educational group stays.

04.01.2022 We were disappointed this year that we couldn't host the students at JCU studying Tropical Biodiversity due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The staff and students at JCU have always been a pleasure to host and they make the most of the experiences at Wambiana which are so very different to what they experience on campus or on the coast. Check out their impressive video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WP0bWwpVXk

01.01.2022 The "Outback Challenge" during school camp is always a hit. How can you go wrong with billy cans, 44 gallon drums, water, plum jam sandwiches, lick bags, horseshoes and dry cow manure!
