They point out that 'There will be in-person and postal voting options available for this by-election and it is important to plan how you will cast your vote according to your personal circumstances'. Pre-polling opens, in Queanbeyan, on Monday 15 June. The Early Voting Centres will be at QPRC Indoor Sports..., 1a Yass Road, Queanbeyan and 116 Monaro Street, Queanbeyan. The AEC advises that 'The AEC is factoring in the rapidly changing COVID-19 environment into our provision of voting services and throughout the broader by-election process. For this by-election, we are implementing a range of safety measures, consistent with advice sought from government health authorities. This will include guidance for voters regarding appropriate social distancing and hygiene in the polling place. Hand sanitiser will be available and voting screens will be regularly cleaned by AEC staff.' 24.01.2022 Please note the following which was published in the October 2020 issue of The Whisper: the Wamboin Community Association’s President’s Paragraphs: Well spring has not exactly sprung as yet. On Friday 25th we had a day as cold as any in winter this year and even a brief snowfall in the higher parts of Wamboin. The rain keeps coming which is a very welcome addition to green the landscape in contrast to this time last year. A few things are slowly edging back to normal with our...Continue reading

22.01.2022 QPRC to vote on LEP on Wed. 9 Sep: action required As previously advised, the Wamboin Community Association (WCA), along with many other local groups and individuals, made submissions on the draft Queanbeyan Palerang Local Environmental Plan 2020 (LEP), and/or responded to Council’s survey on the matter. Council will consider, and presumably vote on, the staff recommendations for the LEP’s contents at its meeting, commencing at 5.30 pm this Wednesday. Their report, and the su...bmissions received during exhibition, can be downloaded from Council’s web site at https://www.qprc.nsw.gov.au//Council-Busin/Minutes-Agendas. If you wish to address the meeting (via video link) you must register by 12 noon on the day of the meeting: https://www.qprc.nsw.gov.au//Public-involvement-at-Council . The WCA understands that very few people have contacted the Councillors about this, which perhaps means that the staff proposal will sail through, largely unopposed. The WCA remains concerned that Council staff are still proposing to ban dual occupancies and neighbourhood shops in the E4 Zone. Their earlier opposition to home businesses without consent in the E4 zone has been withdrawn. If you are concerned about these and other aspects of the draft LEP, please contact the Councillors, and register to speak at the virtual meeting on Wednesday. David McDonald, Hon. Secretary, WCA

21.01.2022 Please note that the Wamboin hall grounds and fire station’s water supply are already at very low levels. We are in fact down to the reserve level for the emerg...ency roof sprinkler system for the buildings. All water is only for the buildings protection and brigade purposes and for fire trucks. Therefore no water (potable or non potable) is available nor ever has been for the public to take. Also note that there are surveillance cameras on the buildings. No comments please. See more

19.01.2022 From: Sharon Baxter-Judge Sent: Friday, 17 April 2020 8:50 PM For the past four and a half years the Bungendore Weekly has been printing local news, supporting and promoting local community events, local not-for-profit groups, local sport, and local businesses. During this time, the Weekly has grown in both copies printed and distribution locations.... These changing times are challenging for all small local businesses and the Weekly is no different. Independent newspapers rock! But they can't survive without paid advertising especially Federal Government advertising. As of next week, and to reflect its current distribution, the Weekly will be renamed the Regional Independent. The Regional Independent will remain the only printed, free, weekly, independent, community newspaper within the Queanbeyan-Palerang local government area. Its content will remain local, factual, and informative and will always support our amazing volunteers, community groups and schools. The commitment to celebrate everything local within our local government area will continue. More information in next week's edition. Sharon Baxter-Judge Editor The Bungendore Weekly PO Box 475, Bungendore NSW 2621 0419 025 533 Please note the office is closed on Tuesdays and reopens 2pm Wednesday. www.bungendoreweekly.com

16.01.2022 Proposed changes to E4 zone permissable activities under the draft QPRC Local Environmental Plan The Wamboin Community Association (WCA) is preparing a submission to the Draft Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Comprehensive Local Environmental Plan 2020 which is currently on exhibition until June 30th. Basically Council is seeking to blend the former Palerang and the Queanbeyan LEPs together. We think there a couple of items that should remain as is for E4 zones. The dra...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Council's meeting on 9 Sept took the next steps with respect to the Queanbeyan-Palerang Draft Comprehensive Local Environmental Plan 2020 and the Bywong & Wamboin E4 Lands Planning Proposal. The webcast of the meeeting is here: http://webcast.qprc.nsw.gov.au/archive/video20-0909.php. Recall that this process aims to merge the current Palerang and Queanbeyan LEPs. The approach entails just that, not engaging in any policy reviews or policy changes. The meeting was advised tha...t it is expected that the new combined LEP will come into force in the first half of 2021, so any policy reviews coud be undertaken in the second half of 2021. Also recall that the normal 'existing use' provisions apply, i.e. if you are engaging in a land use that is currently permitted, and that use becomes no longer permitted under the new LEP, the prohibition does not apply to you so long as you continue to engage in that land use. Regarding the LEP, they resolved as follows: - Contrary to the staff recommendation, dual occupancies are to be permitted with consent in the R5 & E4 zones. - Contrary to the staff recommendation, neighbourhood shops are to be permitted with consent in zones where residences are permitted. - Consistent with the staff recommendation, home businesses are to be permitted without consent in all zones. These are the outcomes that the Wamboin Community Association, and many individuals, requested Council to attain. Regarding the Bywong & Wamboin E4 Lands Planning Proposal - Local Plan Making Authority, Council resolved 'to request the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces or if delegated by the Minister, the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to be the Local Plan Making Authority for the Bywong and Wamboin E4 lands Planning Proposal.' The point of this is for the NSW Govt to scrutinise the proposal at 'arm’s length', rather than have Council do so. For information, as requested. David McDonald, Hon. Secretary, Wamboin Community Association, Inc.

14.01.2022 THE WAMBOIN MARKET IS DEFINITELY ON THIS SATURDAY! Yes, the Wamboin Home Produce Market is on this Saturday, 21 March, 9am--12 noon, Wamboin Community Hall and oval, 112 Bingley Way, Wamboin. A special feature this month is a one-off bushfire drive: please bring along and donate - Plastic plant pots (the black variety you buy plants in at nurseries)... - Any plants or cuttings that could be planted up in the pots (or just bring pots already planted up) - Garden tools and farm equipment (in useable and working condition) - CLEAN OUT THAT GARDEN SHED!!!!!! There will be a collection point outside the hall on market day. There is a group in Queanbeyan who will take all of these items and whenever they get a truck load full they take them down to the bushfire areas in NSW and distribute to those who want to regenerate gardens/bush and who need replacement tools/equipment. Apparently it's proving very popular. Also at the market you will find a variety of stalls. See you there! David

12.01.2022 Wamboin Home Produce and Craft Market suspended Queanbeyan/Palerang Council have now closed all community halls and other venues. In addition, rules and regulations about travel and community gatherings are escalating as are the numbers of cases of the virus nationwide, making the holding of markets etc unwise. So, sadly, we will need to cancel Wamboin markets until restrictions are lifted. As we close anyway in July and August I am anticipating we will start up afresh in Sep...tember. It’s wait and see really though! So stay safe and well and lets all get back together in the spring Meriel Schultz Market Convenor for WCA 0422614304

The Service visits there on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, 10.30 to 11.30am. This day/time was chosen because the Wamboin Social Club is at the Hall on then. The September dates are 10th and 24th.... 10.01.2022 No Wamboin Meet-the-Candidates event for the Eden-Monaro by-election, Saturday 4 July 2020 Well it’s by-election time for the Federal seat of Eden-Monaro on Saturday 4th July. Due to the closure of the Wamboin Community hall to events, unfortunately we cannot hold our famous meet the candidates night. At this stage the hall will probably be a polling place on the day but we are awaiting final confirmation from the AEC. Keep an eye on this page for updates. Will Eden-Monaro regain bellwether status?

08.01.2022 QPRC proposals to rezone Bywong & Wamboin Council's Planning and Strategy Committee meets on Wed. 12 February 2020, 5.30 pm at the Queanbeyan Council Chambers. On the agenda is a draft planning proposal to rezone part of Bywong and Wamboin. The papers are online at https://www.qprc.nsw.gov.au//Council-busin/Minutes-Agendas - see '12 February 2020 Planning and Strategy Meeting'. Agenda item 6.1 deals with the rezoning proposal. The staff recommendation to Council reads, on... pp. 6-7 of the agenda paper (not the attachment): 'The draft planning proposal seeks to rezone, from E4 Environmental Living zone to R5 Large Lot Residential zone, parts of Bywong and Wamboin that meet certain criteria. The criteria establish by the independent consultants will result in 407 lots being rezoned to R5 Large Lot residential Zone. The proposal also recommends that 15 lots be split zoned. This is not supported by staff. As such the 15 lots are recommended to be rezoned R5 Large Lot Residential zone. With the above changes it is recommended that the draft planning proposal be endorsed and forwarded to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment with a request for a Gateway determination.' The attachment which includes the papers for agenda item 6.1 can be downloaded as a pdf file. It includes a map showing every individual lot in the current E4 zone, with the recommendation for the zoning of that lot. The map is on p. 15 of the attachment. Note that the permissable activities on lots zoned as R5 Large Lot Residential are more restrictive than the present E4 Environmental Living zoned lots.

In the meantime we hope you may find the time for long drives in your automotive beauty (maybe searching for that elusive toilet paper). Regards Peter Evans

05.01.2022 SOCIAL DISTANCING IS NOT SOCIAL ISOLATING... Remember, friends, in times of pandemic stress and crisis, we need to do all we can to REDUCE social isolation, while INCREASING physical isolation/distancing. The government's term 'social distancing' is a poor one. We need to increase physical distancing while reducing social distancing. Perhaps there are creative strategies that we can find for the Bywong/Wamboin community to strengthen social contacts, while maintaining physical distancing?

04.01.2022 The next Wamboin market will be on Saturday 19 December 2020. All welcome!

03.01.2022 Residents invited to online community meeting Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council will update residents on a range of projects at its online community meeting on Thursday 29 October. The meeting will start at 6pm and will include information on local projects such as the Bungendore Sports Hub, Lascelles St upgrade, Queanbeyan Civic and Cultural Hub, Bungendore car park and will also allow residents to submit agenda items that they would like discussed. ... While it would be great to get out and see community members, we are still restricted with the number of residents we could accommodate at a face-to-face community meeting, Queanbeyan-Palerang Mayor, Cr Tim Overall said. To ensure we can continue to communicate with our residents, we will be conducting the community meeting online. For some, this will make the meeting more accessible and I look forward to hearing from our residents. Earlier in 2020, we pre-recorded our community meetings, however feedback from the community was that they would have preferred more interaction. Following that feedback, we have decided to run this meeting via Zoom which will allow for increased dialogue during the meeting. The meeting agenda includes time for Council presentations on general matters, projects concerning Braidwood, Bungendore and Queanbeyan and questions from residents. As the meeting will be held via Zoom, residents are asked to pre-register so they can be sent meeting details. Members of the public are able to register and submit agenda items for the meeting by completing the form at www.qprc.nsw.gov.au/Events/Online-Community-Meeting
