15.01.2022 Europe, as a martial arts market has long not been actively and entirely covered by my Sifu, Grandmaster Wan Kam Leung and his style Practical Wing Chun and the...refore the style was less exposed to Westerners. With a select group of Regional Directors, the style is made available to a - again - a select audience around the world, with Branches in France, Germany, South Africa, Australia, China, United States, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Philippines, Italy, Netherlands, UK, His name was therefore less heard of in this area of the globe. However, pictures of him will for sure ring a bell for a lot of people. He was perhaps most recognized in his screenplay with the late Bruce Lee (figuring left on the pictures with the legend), who started with Wing Chun and subsequently developed his Jeet Kune Do out from that platform . Sifu always had and has the confidence from people - who wanted to learn his style willingly to make the trip to Hong Kong (where he enjoys a great respect from other Wing Chun SiFus) and now also San Diego. Sifu had never been a marketing person. He’d come over as someone who was more/most focused on extending his skills set instead. Sifu is of opinion that he doesn’t need to tap onto the reputation and fame of celebrities to highlight his style, despite having quite some among his student group. The martial arts world (or industry if you like) is a lot more complicated in Hong Kong/Asia than it is in Europe. In Asia - as I have experienced it personally as well - skills are measured distinctively than it is being measured in Europe. That’s because the standard is extremely high. The ones who argue this is not true, are perhaps people who have never set foot in Asia and only know the levels within their own perimeter. For in Asia to be respected as one of the major Grandmasters, does require a certain skill set which is less the case in Europe (I can speak unbiasedly). It is not without reason that he’d been the only Chief Instructor ever invited by the Royal Police of Hong Kong for their G4 VIP Protection Unit.
