23.01.2022 4th and final game of Wanderers Cricket Week 2020 against Anglican Church Grammar School ( Churchie ) @ the school oval in East Brisbane. Another superb complex.
23.01.2022 Wanderers v Blackwater 20/8/2020 Tour game seven 9 dropped catches! You can’t do that. Not against a very good Blackwater side. Once again, a good batting start fell away with quick top order wickets; Wanderers 4/64 at drinks. A 56 run, 5th wicket partnership between Christian Murphy and Tom Morris, off just 50 balls, restored some respectability. Murphy and Byron Gale then added 34 in just 23 balls, featuring some hair-raising running between wickets. Despite the maniacal r...unning which resulted in three of the last five wickets falling to run outs, Wanderers managed to post 195 from their 40 overs. The fielding effort started promisingly with Blackwater 5/48 before too long, but partnerships of 72 from 73 between Chris Johnson and Calvin Munro and 53 from 59 between Munro and Neil Saunders sealed the match for Blackwater with 4 overs to spare. Tyran Eggmolesse was outstanding for Wanderers with figures of 8-2-3-12. Frederick Lee Watts also picked up three wickets. Once again the hospitality of the hosts was amazing. Loved those ribs from the Capricorn Hotel and the wonderful meat supplied by sponsor Shane Shoesmith. Well done to Chris Johnson and his crew. See more

21.01.2022 Wanderers v The Southport School Clyde Veivers Memorial Shield 9/12/2020 A sunny day, a lovely breeze, a beautiful day for cricket and the annual Clyde Veivers Memorial Shield clash at The Southport School. ... Wanderers started well with a partnership of 71 between old boy, Matthew Grant and Raghav Goel. Just before drinks, TSS skipper, Lachlan Crump, held onto one at slip off the bowling of Louis Chabert to dismiss Goel and just after drinks; James Kleinschmidt was adjudged LBW to Liam O’Connor. Jack Doyle then joined Grant, the pair adding 47 for the third wicket, before Doyle became the first of Tom Gossett’s victims via another catch to Crump. The first of two partnerships between MJ Toolis and Grant was an undefeated 31 taking Wanderers to second drinks and the retirement of Grant with the score on 162. From that point, it was a procession. In a 14 over period, seven wickets fell for 49 runs; Tom Gossett picking up 4/15 from his last five overs to finish with 5/45. Retiree, Grant, rejoined a defiant Toolis to add 17 from the last 10 balls of the innings and drag Wanderers up to 228 from their 50 overs. Despite an initial setback, TSS got off to a flyer with Judd Markham particularly brutal taking 18 off the 3rd over and 14 off the 8th and Lachlan Crump chiming in with 15 off the 5th. With 71 already on the board, Matthew Grant was introduced in the 9th over and immediately picked up the wicket of Crump. Grant and Doyle, worked well in tandem until drinks reducing the run rate from an amazing nine an over to just over six by drinks. There was a collective sigh of relief for Wanderers in the first over after drinks when Markham was well caught by Byron Gale, on the boundary, off Jack Doyle. A return catch to Grant, three overs later, made it 4/113, leaving Louis Chabert and Jack Dwyer to consolidate in a patient 27 run 5th wicket partnership over the next nine overs. Tight bowling by Marcus Zipf and Josh Durkin reduced the run rate, leading to some risky running between wickets and the eventual demise of Jack Dwyer via a Jack Doyle direct hit in the 30th over. The 43-run, 6th wicket partnership between Louis Chabert and Nick Williams took TSS to drinks and then accelerated after drinks until Jack Doyle intervened again, throwing accurately to Frederick Lee Watts for the run out of Williams. Less than an over later, Watts was on hand again, diving to his right to dismiss the new batsman off the bowling of Kleinschmidt. The glimmer of hope felt by Wanderers at 7/188, was snuffed out by a dominant Louis Chabert, bringing up 50 and smashing 45 off his last 19 deliveries to steer TSS home in the 42nd over. Post match, Patrick Carty and TSS coach Steve Baker paid respects to Clyde Veivers and Lew Cooper who were both passionate supporters of Wanderers and TSS. A very enjoyable day. Thank you to all. 19.01.2022 Wanderers v Anglican Church Grammar School Churchie Main Oval 4/12/2020 The end of a big week for Wanderers playing GPS big guns Churchie, on the idyllic Main Oval at East Brisbane.... Lucky Peterson and Raghav Goel started positively for the visitors, adding 68 from 69 for the first wicket, before Peterson was out to James Holy in the 12th over and a mid-pitch mix-up brought about the run-out of Goel a couple of overs later. A great catch at gully by Henry Zeitsch off Billy Harris did for Flynn Thomasson in the following over and when Tom Nicholson edged to keeper, Clancy Brady, off Campbell Corrigan, Wanderers had lost 4/25 in 7 overs. Steven Page and Matthew Grant fought well in a 38-run, 5th wicket stand and looked to be in control, but, Brady and Corrigan combined again to dismiss Grant in the 27th over with the score on 131. A well-judged boundary catch by Steve Timms off the leg-spin of Hamish McDonald was the downfall of Page in the 33rd over and when Harry Carroll missed one two balls later, McDonald had his second and Wanderers were in trouble at 7/143. A short revival by Frederick Lee Watts and Byron Gale was snuffed out by a a Campbell Corrigan catch off Jack Con Taylor, leaving Hamish McDonald to mop up the final three wickets and complete a 5fa; Churchie restricting Wanderers to 170 from 42.5 of the allotted 50. The chase started disastrously for Churchie; Brady Clancy caught by Thomasson off Grant in the second over and Jack Con Taylor bizarrely run out off an attempted second run of a wide delivery. Skipper, Jacob Verstegen, and Campbell Corrigan added 39 for the 3rd wicket, but, three wickets in 7 balls - 2 to Tom Nicholson and 1 to Kade Horan did nothing for Churchie’s cause. From 5/49, partnerships of 57 between James Holy and Josh Welsh and 46 between Welsh and Harris for the 6th and 8th wickets, took Churchie to within 20 runs of victory. Horan picked up a couple via a return catch and a Watts stumping; Watts and Grant combined for another. A fine innings from Josh Welsh, finally ended one run short of victory when Thomasson held one at short cover off Josh Gittins; Churchie going on to complete victory in the 43rd over. Brad Murphy paid tribute to the Churchie coaches, staff and players for their continued support of the Wanderers cause. As always the hospitality and facilities were impeccable. Well done everyone! 14.01.2022 Wanderers v Toowoomba Grammar School 24/11/2020 Toowoomba, Mills Oval As always, a beautifully prepared ground greeted the visiting Wanderers at TGS. Jacarandas were in full bloom and it looked to be a great day for cricket. After just 6 overs, a great day might have been a short one as Wanderers slumped to 3/15. Opener, Will Nason, and Flynn Thomasson, then set about restoring some respectability to the score. 40 cautious runs were added by drinks without any further loss ...of wickets. After drinks, Thomasson became more expansive. Nason took the cue from his partner and also started to play shots, in the 26th over, with the score on 96, Nason was finally out for a fine 42; the partnership realizing 81 from 116 balls. The aggressive batting continued as an energetic Byron Gale joined Thomasson to add 69 in just 8.4 overs to the second drinks break and then another 36 in 3 overs after drinks, to take the score to 201 when Gale was out for 45. After the Thomasson/Gale onslaught, the 17 runs from the next 4 overs seemed sedate in comparison. Then, in the 42nd over, Thomasson broke the shackles and heaved one for six to bring up a century from 94 balls. He celebrated with three consecutive sixes to end the over. Thomasson’s retirement came at the end of the 44th over on 121 from 99 balls. A quick wicket via a return catch in the 46th over was just reward to opening bowler, Jem Ryan, who toiled hard for 2/35 from his 10. A 23-ball, 40 run partnership between Grigg and Joey Pratt at the death, steered Wanderers to an imposing 318 from the 50 overs. Lunch was taken in the serene surroundings of the Jacaranda room, before the resumption of hostilities at 2.00pm. The TGS innings started with a bang as Harry Meiklejohn slapped a couple of boundaries in the first over. Unfortunately, his opening partner fell victim to a Joey Pratt special to be trapped in front in the second over. Meiklejohn continued to find boundaries in an aggressive innings before Pratt claimed him as well in the 10th over. The thunderstorm arrived at 2.48pm with the score on 2/46. When play resumed at 3.35pm, the revised target was 293 from 42 overs. The par score at 15 overs jumped from 90 to 106 when Callum Galvin was bowled by Grigg in the 15th over with score on 59. TGS skipper, Sam Anderson and Taj Glenn allowed themselves a couple of overs to consolidate, but with the threat of more rain, lunched themselves at the bowling. Glenn took 21 from 18th and then another 14 from the 19th to take the score to 111, before the drizzle turned into more and the umpires called a halt to play for the day. With the par score at 122 from 19 overs, the final margin was just 11 runs! Wanderers stalwart, Patrick Carty, conveyed appreciation to the TGS players, staff and supporters for their excellent hospitality and continued support of Wanderers’ fixtures. Well done everyone. LOOK OUT. CRICKET WEEK is coming. See more

09.01.2022 Wanderers v Clermont 19/8/2020 Tour game six Skies were blue, about 32 degrees, some wind.... a gorgeous day for a day/night fixture. Wanderers surrendered the customary bat first position to allow for some coaching of about 50 youngsters later in the afternoon. ... Harry Carroll, batting for the opposition, was aggressive early, but got one that popped and was caught by Tim Agapow off the bowling of Thomas Morris; the fourth chance of the day that had gone to hand. Matt Hicks who batted well for Clermont, received a brute of a ball from Frederick Lee Watts which flicked his glove, the Keeper’s glove and was well caught by Leigh Drennan at slip. Tyran Eggmolesse’s introduction produced a wicket a couple of overs before drinks and when a rising delivery from Tyran had the batsman fending the ball away, a mix-up led to a simple run out by Thomas Morris sending the locals to he break at 4/70. Immediately after the break it was Tyran again enticing a lifted shot into the hands of Rick Jones; 5/70. From there, it was the Robert O'Keeffe massacre! An excellent 8 over spell, with a wicket from the first delivery and 4/16 overall. Tim Agapow grabbing his second catch and Christian Murphy a couple of stumpings including the key wicket of Ryan Nunan who provided some fireworks in a well made 41. A couple of cameo appearances with the ball from Leigh Drennan and Chris Agapow both produces wickets; Clermont making 136 from their 40 overs. MJ Toolis and Christian Murphy powered their way to a 50 partnership from 57 balls to set the platform in the chase. Clermont fought back to have the tourists 4/84 at the dinner break. Resuming under lights Tim Agapow and Rick Jones added 46 in a partnership taking Wanderers to within 7 runs of victory. The winning runs came from the bat of the mercurial Matt Williamson. The target was reset to 200; a further 63 from the remaining 67 overs. Clermont top scorers Hicks and Nunan came on to bowl and restricted The scoring. Nonetheless, Jones did manage a towering maximum into the grandstand off Hicks much to the delight of th crowd. The chase ended on 188, 12 runs short of the revised target. The Clermont hospitality was nothing short of superb. Well done to all for their contributions See more
07.01.2022 Wanderers v Charters Towers 18/8/2020 Tour game five One fantastic day after another in the North. Not a cloud in the sky today. About 28 degrees. Charters Towers supplemented by Luke Feldman and Tim Agapow from the Wanderers ranks and a few Townsville players, came ready to play. Feldman and Justin Dixon were on the spot early; tying up the aggressive Christian Murphy and MJ Toolis. Nonetheless, an opening stand of 35 was posted before disaster struck. Dan Kearney snavelled... three wickets in an over and another in his next and Wanderers were 4/44 before drinks. Toolis and Byron Gale battled for a while to stabilize the innings before Toolis misjudged one from Agapow and was bowled. Gale then dug in, cleverly picking off singles, the occasional two and a boundary, while batsmen capitulated around him. Robert O'Keeffe joined Gale for a 36-run, 8th wicket partnership which was accelerating nicely before a bizarre run out had Gale returning to the pavilion for a well-made 31. The remaining four wickets added just 29 runs, setting the opposition a target of 148 for victory. Tim Agapow finished with 3/21 from 4 overs for the opposition. Charters Towers started in much the same fashion as Wanderers and before too long were 3/35 thanks to a Rick Jones catch off Thomas Morris at point and two wickets in two balls by Tyran Eggmolesse a few overs before drinks. Tim Agapow joined opener, Jack Pickering for a 25 run 4th wicket partnership, but James Wooden put an end to that with the help of a Leigh Drennan catch behind. A couple of Caleb Goes Ham King wickets reduced Charters Towers to 7/97, but the nuisance, Tim Agapow, continued to hang around, top scoring for the opposition if you please. It took a spectacular C&B by Lance Roudenko to end the Agapow innings and stoke the embers of hope at 7/99. The embers were fanned by a juggling Matthew Williamson catch at mid-wicket with the score on 119, but, the fire wouldn’t start as the experienced Hampson and Dixon saw the Towers home in the 40th over. Post-game, Wanderers president, Brad Murphy, acknowledged Roma Bailey’s outstanding work in organising the event. Thank you to all for a great day.
06.01.2022 Wanderers v St Patrick’s College Curlew Park 3/12/2020 Match 3 of Cricket Week took Wanderers to Sandgate and a beautifully prepared Curlew Park. ... As possums scurried around in the roof and walls of the clubhouse, the Wanderers top order were being scuttled by a rampant St Pat’s bowling attack. Hayden Vickers claimed the first wicket in the 4th over with the score on 20. A freakish rebound off second slip into the hands of Joel Heinrich at first, gave Bailey Reed his first in the seventh over. The incoming batsmen departed next ball, bowled and guess what? The batsman after that did the same! A hat trick to Bailey Reed. Wanderers teetering at 4/27. From that point the St Pat’s lads dominated, snuffing out each partnership, just as it threatened. Harry Clench picked up four wickets in a tight 10 over spell and Joel Heinrich picked up two. The bowling was backed up by excellent fielding and catching; Heinrich and Clench taking return catches, Brayden Volker tidy with the gloves, taking a couple and skipper, Charles Moore grabbing one at mid-on to dismiss the dangerous Byron Gale. The highlight for Wanderers was a stubborn, final wicket partnership between legend Matthew ‘Willo’ Williamson and Brad Ilott. The pair defied the bowling for 17 overs, adding 49 runs and some respectability to the Wanderers eventual total of 156. St Patrick’s was equally competent in the chase. Charles Moore and Harry Clench negotiated the dual spin opening attack of Zanden Jeh and Matthew Grant to lay a solid platform with a 49 run opening stand. The departure of Clench, falling to Zanden in the 13th was followed by wickets in the 15th, a catch by Matthew Grant off Jeh and 19th via a Brad Ilott run-out. Throughout, Charles Moore continued to attack the bowling, bringing up 50 from 48 balls during a 46 run 4th wicket partnership with Cooper Allan. While Brad Ilott tied up one end in a miserly 10 over spell for 25 runs, old boy, Jack Doyle picked up the wicket of Allan from the other, with the score on 120. A quickfire 12 from 13 balls by Chris Marshall was brought to an end by a Luke Stutter boundary catch off Frederick Lee Watts and a fine innings by Charles Moore finally ended on 105 from 97 balls, just 8 runs short of victory, when Doyle held one off Watts at short mid-wicket. Blucher and Reed shepherded St Patrick’s to a comprehensive 5 wicket victory in the 39th over. Brad Murphy and Lee Watts were effusive in their praise of the St Patrick’s performance and the quality of Curlew Park facilities. Br. Chris Pritchard and Ken Laxton did a fine job as umpires for the day and the hospitality was superb. Thank you and well done to all. See more

02.01.2022 Wanderers Cricket Club are holding a sporties luncheon on Thursday December 10th at the Hamilton Hotel with a couple of great guest speakers in Kepler Wessels &... Carl Rackemann who will be interviewed by popular Brisbane MC Evan Banger Bancroft. This is our main fundraiser of the season so we are hoping to fill the venue close to Xmas ! Wanderers CC’s main activity each year is to travel into country areas for a pre-season tour where we take a mixed standard team to play against local sides and we also coach kids in places that may not get a lot of cricket action. We also have a summer fixture list where we play as many secondary schools midweek who are keen to play against experienced cricketers. Functions like this luncheon enable us to continue what the club has been doing since the 1930s. This is a mixed event so please spread the word amongst your cricketing friends. Please book via the details supplied on form.
01.01.2022 Wanderers v Roma 22/8/2020 Tour Game Eight It might have got to 19 or 20 degrees, but the howling winds, seemingly from Antarctica, meant the jumpers and sweaters were common clobber at Colts Oval, Roma. MJ Toolis and Frederick Lee Watts were the openers for the occasion, taking the score to 39 before Toolie was bowled. Wattsy was then joined by Christian Murphy in a second wicket partnership of 78 from just 70 balls; Lee bringing up his 50 and promptly running himself out!... Another 50 partnership followed when Matthew Williamson joined Murphy at the crease; Christian bringing up his 3rd tour score above 50. Willo got the retirement nod at the end of the 39th with the score on 185. An entertaining 54 from 42 balls between Tim Agapow and Harry Carroll was the main contributor to the 92 runs added in the last 11 overs; Wanderers amassing 277 in the allotted 50. Thomas Morris struck in the first over of the chase to have Roma 1/7. Skipper, Scott Hilton joined a belligerent Ryan Carter, adding 31 for the second wicket, but was back in the clubhouse before the end of the 8th over thanks to a Toolis direct hit. A juggling catch by Agapow in the gully off Caleb Goes Ham King made it 3/51. Jack Dawes provided solid support as Carter blasted his way to 60, out of a total of 85, before being brilliantly caught by Tyran Eggmolesse off the evergreen Patrick Carty just on drinks. Typically accurate bowling by Eggie after drinks decimated Roma. He nabbed three wickets in six balls and reduced Roma to 7/94. It looked like it would be an early afternoon, but Geoff Maslen and Scott Harland had other plans in a 16 over, 79-run 8th wicket stand. Scott and Geoff fell in the space of five balls in the 36th and 37th overs to very good catches by Christian Murphy on the boundary at mid wicket and Tom Morris at mid-off; Tim Agapow and James Wooden the bowlers. Chris Gelhaar and Dylan Sherriff smashed 47 in 17 balls for the 10th wicket; a return catch to Agapow finally bringing about Gelhaar’s demise. A win to Wanderers by 71 runs. The Roma club were wonderful hosts. Congratulations to all concerned for a grand occasion. ....and that’s all I got to say about that... Till next year. See more
01.01.2022 Calling all current & past Wanderers cricketers. We are holding a luncheon on December 10th at the Hamilton Hotel. We need your support ! If you have in the pa...st toured with the club to the country or played midweek games with us it would be fantastic if you could spare the time to attend this single function in order to continue to help bring cricket to the country and schools. It acts as a fundraiser to keep the club going. It is quite hard when the same tiny group of people tend to do the bulk of the work so PLEASE consider attending and spreading the word amongst others. It is just before Xmas and both Kepler & Mocca are very entertaining speakers. It would be great to see some old faces at the Hammo ! Thank you.
01.01.2022 Day 6 was a travel day from Home Hill to Charters Towers which involved brief stops at the Giru and Mingella pubs. Upon arrival in the Towers some of the group played 9 holes of golf whilst others enjoyed a trip up the mountain to check out the historical relics of the gold rush days in a bygone era.
01.01.2022 Day 7 - game 5 was against a Charters Towers /Townsville Invitation XI and was played at the high quality Junior Association fields. Stalwart Charters Towers organiser Roma Bailey ensured the facility was in tip top shape and that both teams were well catered for which all added up to a fantastic day of cricket. QCs Tony Hampson and Dan Kearney brought the Townsville contingent with them plus arranged for some local kids to come along at the end of the game for some specialist coaching. Wanderers tourists Luke Feldman and Tim Agapow both played in the opposition team who ended up reeling in our score of 147 with a few wickets in hand.
