19.01.2022 RSPCA NSW is urgently appealing to members of the public for information after a dog has died under suspicious circumstances in Sydneys south west over the wee...kend. The dog was found on the side of a road in Silverdale with numerous injuries to her head and body and her mouth taped shut. She had no microchip or collar. RSPCA NSW is actively investigating this incident. The dog has been taken into our custody and we are still searching for her owner. A post-mortem examination of the body is being conducted to determine the cause of death and gather forensic evidence. RSPCA NSW is appealing to anyone that may have first-hand information about this incident to come forward and make a confidential report by calling the animal cruelty hotline on 1300 CRUELTY (1300 278 3589) or online at www.rspcansw.org.au/contact/report-a-cruelty-case/

04.01.2022 Unfortunately in this past week we have seen two confirmed cases of canine parvovirus from the Blacktown area. Parvo is a highly contagious virus that affects ...puppies and young dogs that are unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated. The common symptoms of parvo are: Lethargy Anorexia Vomiting Severe, bloody diarrhoea Fever Weight loss Weakness Depression Dehydration Because parvo is a virus, there is no real cure for it. Treatment is focused on managing the symptoms and preventing secondary bacterial infections. Intensive therapy in hospital provides the best chance for recovery. Parvo is preventable through vaccination. Puppies should receive vaccinations from 6-8 weeks, then boosters at 10-12 weeks, 14-16 weeks and then yearly.
