23.01.2022 Thanks for the training opportunity Yellingbo Rural Fire Brigade. Well done. Your support and scene set up was excellent, and we hope you had some fun getting on the tools too! #WeWorkAsOne #community

17.01.2022 It has been a crazy 12 months! Drought, into terrible bushfires, into an unexpected pandemic that impacted us all in many ways...it is time to reflect, rebuild and look forward to a brighter and better 2021... Look after yourselves, your family, friends, and local community. Let’s get around each other, support our local community & businesses, and bounce back stronger than ever. ... ...and prepare your property now for summer. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare Stay safe everyone.

16.01.2022 Hi everyone, over recent days and weeks we have seen increasing frequency of call outs to burn offs which have re-ignited and/or spread into nearby paddocks or up trees. Thankfully, all of these incidents did not get big on us, or threaten life or property, but all were preventable if we all follow a few simple guidelines. Further, a significant factor has been underestimating the wind conditions and not extinguishing the burn off properly.... It is also a council requirement that you register your burn off. We are very appreciative that you are all working hard to reduce excess fuel loads, prepare your property for summer, and reduce the overall fire risk. A few simple precautions before you light up is the difference between a controlled burn off and seeing us on your doorstep. Cheers. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off

13.01.2022 FYI...please note the weather change and strong winds expected later on today. If you have been burning off in the last week, please check it and ensure it is fully extinguished. Today is NOT the day to start a burn off.

11.01.2022 We thank our community again for their outstanding support during this difficult year...let’s put a very ordinary 2020 behind us, and celebrate 2021 without a bang, or an injury or motor vehicle crash. Please be sensible, stay safe, and best wishes for the new year ahead. Cheers.

09.01.2022 It’s a beautiful Lunar Eclipse here in Wandin tonight

09.01.2022 Lest We Forget. A fantastic attendance by the local community this morning at the Wandin ANZAC Day service. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;... Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. See more

08.01.2022 A dedicated foursome from our Brigade crawled into bed at 0530 this morning, an 11hour response on this difficult and complex technical rope rescue job. It proved to be very difficult access. The crews made quick access to the pt to start planning the HIAR extrication whith the short daylight we had left. HEMS couldn't perform the winch due to unsuitable weather, so led by D8 rope technicians we set up a complex high angle recovery where we could attempt an air extrication a...gain. The pt was finally winched into PolAir helicopter at around 0300hrs +- It was a job Well done by all agencies involved. A multi-agency goto channel was set up while enroute meaning we could get a first hand detailed sitrep on route. #WeWorkAsOne We must also provide a special shout out to Wandin Seville Community Bank Branch whose generous support of our Brigade through a community grant facilitated the purchase of dedicated technical rope rescue equipment that was used at this incident. Thank you .

06.01.2022 FYI...please watch out for fallen trees, debris, slow down, avoid distractions, and drive to the conditions. #ArriveAlive #WeWorkAsOne

05.01.2022 Another timely reminder... never leave your burn off unattended until it is completely extinguished. Please monitor / check your burn off area for a few days, as it can stay hot for days... and could reignite when you least expect it.

05.01.2022 Today is NOT the day to be burning off...

04.01.2022 Santa has got his border pass, completed his quarantine, and will be roaming the streets of Wandin TONIGHT (Wednesday) between 6pm and 8pm with lolly bags for all the good boys and girls (and mummy and daddy of course). Keep your eyes out for our trucks with him on board...

04.01.2022 You can now apply for fire permits online. Even if you don't need a permit, please register your burn-off to avoid us being called our unnecessarily - it's free! You just need to provide your address, contact number and times you'll be burning until. ^L4 https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/-/online-fire-permit-system-lau

04.01.2022 Just after lunch yesterday (Tues 29/12) we were paged to a "grass fire spreading" on a property in Gruyere / Wandin. Further information indicated it was an escaped burn-off that was "heading towards a hayshed". Unfortunately we were only halfway to the incident when advised that the fire had reached the hay store and nearby structures. Upon arrival we found 2 x 40' shipping containers, and many rounds of hay fully ablaze, and the fire spreading slowly through the surroundin...g grass. We secured a good water source from a nearby creek, sectorized the fire into an East and West Sector with officers from supporting brigades taking control of each sector. Due to the unknown contents of the shipping containers, we setup a BA control with Yellingbo Rehab before fully investigating inside of them. BA support was also provided by the Bayswater Fire Brigade specialist unit. The roof between the shipping containers had been severely compromised by the burning hay underneath so it was declared a no-go zone for safety reasons. A front-end loader from the Shire was arranged to both remove the roof, and spread out the hay so we could allow it to burn in a controlled manner, then drowned it to extinguish. Fortunately damage was limited to only the immediate area surrounding the original burn off. A fantastic team effort from everyone who attended, and Thanks to everyone who came out, as well as members from the supporting brigades ...Seville Rural Fire Brigade (CFA), Gruyere Fire Brigade, Mt Evelyn Fire Brigade, Coldstream CFA Fire Brigade, Yellingbo Rural Fire Brigade, and Bayswater Fire Brigade-CFA specialist BA unit. We went back to the scene late last night and again today, checked it for hot spots, with the thermal imaging camera (TIC) - everything looked okay, and the owners were extremely appreciative of everyone's efforts. This was a timely reminder to ensure that although burn offs are still permitted in Yarra Ranges shire, it is your responsibility to ensure you take the appropriate precautions, are able to control and extinguish if necessary, and have lots of space between the burn off area, and other structures. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off #WeWorkAsOne

03.01.2022 FYI...keep an eye on the night sky next week. Note: this is a TRAINING exercise only.

03.01.2022 REMEMBERANCE DAY Why is this day special to Australians? At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional sur...render. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70 million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave. The allied nations chose this day and time for the commemoration of their war dead. This extract was taken from https://www.awm.gov.au/commemora/remembrance-day/traditions

02.01.2022 Last night, members of our rope rescue team were called out to an incident in Wesburn around 9.30pm where a 4WDer had lost control of their vehicle on a very mu...ddy, slippery and steep track which resulted in the vehicle rolling and stopping on it's roof. Local brigades and SES were able to extricate the patient from the vehicle but due to the steepness and slipperiness of the track, there was no way to get the patient to the waiting ambulance without using a rope rescue system. Our team joined our usual partners in crime Wandin Fire Brigade to set up a rope rescue system to traverse the very tricky conditions under the light of portable lighting. This was roughly a 150m rope system that required 2 seperate systems and roughly 10 rope operators from CFA and FRV to bring the patient down safely who was conscious and talking to us throughout the rescue. It's fair to say we all got pretty muddy last night along with all of our gear. This was at times a job that required kneeling in thick deep mud. After the job was complete we spent an hour washing our gear and another 30 mins laying it out to dry and got home at about 2.30am. Our station is currently a giant drying room for all of our rope gear. Thank you to all local brigades, Wandin fire brigade, SES, Fire Rescue Victoria, VicPol and Ambulance Vic for a job well done. We wish the patient a speedy recovery.

01.01.2022 SILENCE IS DEADLY Easter weekend saw the loss of a beautiful families house and unfortunately their pets. But luckily not a loss of each other. If they hadn't had smoke alarms it could of been a completely different story. ... Data from Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) reveals most fatal house fires start in living and sleeping areas, but a concerning number of Victorians still do not have working smoke alarms in these locations. While their smoke alarms met the legal requirements, the families experience is why firefighters are calling on the community to install interconnected alarms that provide vital early warning during a fire. Interconnected smoke alarms in all bedrooms, hallways and living areas are your best line of defence, alerting you promptly and buying you and your family precious time to escape. Thank you to our members for the hard work that was put in over that Easter weekend. And a big thank you to the wonderful Wandin Community who really supported the family in this much needed time. "Please make sure your smoke alarms are working, are in the right place and interconnected. IT DOES SAVE LIVES." The Family said. https://youtu.be/Da2fiZseXV4

01.01.2022 Some more photos from the rope rescue job overnight. Our best wishes to the patient for a speedy recovery.
