25.01.2022 BRETT DAGS GET HIS 300TH Congratulations to AFL boundary umpire and WANFLUA Life Member, Brett Dalgleish, who will this week umpire his 300th senior match when he officiates in the game between Fremantle and Sydney on Saturday night. This is a massive achievement for an umpire who has put in countless hours of training and hard work to get the most out of himself. Brett has developed into one of the country's best boundary umpires having umpired 211 AFL games and twice finish...ed in the top 5 umpires. Brett has also umpired 2 WAFL Grand Finals (2008 and 2009), and was awarded the Devine Medal in 2009 for the best WAFL boundary umpire. Brett also shares a great connection with his brother Jeff, an AFL field umpire, with whom he has umpired 73 AFL games. This milestone makes Brett just the 5th boundary umpire in WANFLUA history to reach 300 games, and only the 16th umpire overall. We congratulate Brett on this amazing achievement and wish him all the very best for the game!

23.01.2022 DOUBLE DEBUT FOR ROUND 9 Congratulations to field umpires Alex Crowhurst and Nic Shaw, who will this week both make their league debuts. Nic, who hails from the Subiaco district, will make his debut in the game between East Perth and Peel Thunder on Saturday. Nic has had a quick rise through the ranks, having joined the High Performance Team at the start of this year. He is an umpire that has showed a great eagerness to learn and adapt, leading to quick improvements in all f...acets of his game. Alex, who hails from the East Fremantle factory, will make his debut in the game between East Fremantle and Swan Districts on Sunday. Like Nic, he joined the High Performance panel at the start of this season and has quickly proven his worth at reserves level. Crowy is a very consistent umpire who understands the game very well and has been rewarded for his hard work in improving all aspects of his game. We congratulate both men on their fantastic achievements and wish them all the best for the start of very long careers!!

23.01.2022 On Sunday afternoon the WANFLUA Life Members held their annual catch up at the Northbridge Brewing Co. A massive thank you needs to go to Kendell Lamplugh for organising this great event where our life members were able to catch up with each other over some light snacks and refreshments. New life members Alyce Biddolph and Alex Martin were also welcomed into the group. The continued engagement of Life and Past Members is critical to the ongoing success of the WANFLUA. If you have recently updated your email address or aren’t receiving updates from the WANFLUA, please contact us at [email protected] so that you can be kept informed of future events.

23.01.2022 KUKAS SETS WAFL RECORD Congratulations to WAFL boundary umpire and life member, Ryan Kukura, who will this week umpire a record 320th WAFL league game. Ryan, who will be umpiring the West Perth and Perth Semi Final at Joondalup on Sunday, will pass the previous benchmark set by field umpire Gavin Statham. ... This is a massive achievement for Ryan, who has set elite standards over the 20 years he has been a part of the group. Despite numerous injury setbacks, Kukas has gone onto umpire a remarkable 8 WAFL league Grand Finals over this period. On the back of many years of outstanding performances, Ryan was rewarded with an AFL debut in 2016, however even after this came to an end, he returned to the WAFL group and has continued to umpire at an elite level. We wish Kukas all the best for his milestone game, and congratulate him on breaking this record, as well as hoping for many more games still to come!

23.01.2022 50 UP FOR FEV Congratulations to WAFL field umpire and WANFLUA statistician Blake Evans, who will this week umpire his 50th league game when he officiates the game between South Fremantle and East Perth tomorrow. This is a great milestone for an umpire who has improved so much in his time with the group. Blake has developed himself into one of the elite runners in the group over recent years, and this is one of the reasons behind this achievement. He is a role model for the... newer umpires to look up to, and always brings positive energy on the training track. We congratulate Fev on this milestone, and wish him all the very best for the game!

22.01.2022 500 SENIOR GAMES FOR ROSEBURY Congratulations to AFL umpire, WANFLUA Life Member and WANFLUA senior games record holder, Brett Rosebury, who will this week umpire his 500th senior game. Brett, who will reach this milestone in the game between Sydney and Geelong on Sunday, is the ultimate professional and role model for any umpire coming through the system. He has consistently been in the top echelon of umpires in the country for the past 15 years and is widely respected for ...his actions both on and off the field. And despite living in Melbourne, he still maintains his involvement with the WANFLUA through the award named in his honour and by always stopping by when he’s in town. In his 500 senior games, Brett has umpired 456 AFL games and 44 WAFL games. In these games, he has umpired a remarkable 8 AFL grand finals and 2 WAFL grand finals. We congratulate Brett on this amazing achievement and we wish him all the very best for the game!

21.01.2022 MCCAW "SKIPS" TO 200 GAMES A massive congratulations to field umpire Rob McCaw, who will umpire his 200th WAFL league match on Saturday at Financial Arena when West Perth plays Claremont. Rob is one of the most respected umpires not only within the WAFL umpiring group but also amongst the WAFL playing group too. This has come about because of many consistent performances over a long period of time.... Rob joined the WAFL umpiring panel in 2005. After having 2008 off from umpiring, Rob returned in 2009 and quite literally hit the ground running, becoming one of the fittest umpires on the panel. This led to his league debut in 2010 and has been one of the mainstays in league football since. Rob's leadership and mentorship has helped the vast majority of the field umpiring list at one point throughout their careers. Always one to lend a hand to a younger umpire on their umpiring journey, this trait has lead Rob to be nicknamed Skip. This is a massive achievement and one that comes from many years of hard work and immense dedication. All the best for the weekend Rob!!

21.01.2022 BRYN GRABS HIS CHANCE Congratulations to boundary umpire, Bryn Weir, who will this week make his league debut in the grand final rematch between Subiaco and South Fremantle on Saturday afternoon. This is a massive reward for the hard work and long hours Bryn has put into his training this season. His dedication and willingness to keep training throughout the lockdown meant he started the season full of run and great form, which has resulted in this promotion.... We wish Bryn all the best on this massive achievement and congratulate him on what will no doubt be the start of a long career!!

19.01.2022 ROUND 7 MILESTONES Congratulations to WAFL boundary umpire, Jarrad Andrews, and WAFL goal umpire, Jason Tyrrell, who will both achieve significant milestones this round. Jarrad will be making his league debut in the Peel Thunder vs South Fremantle game tomorrow. This is a fantastic achievement for Jarrad and a great reward for the commitment and hours of hard work that he has put in. Despite residing in Bunbury, Jarrad attends training and games in Perth every week. His ha...rd work, positive attitude and always giving 100% is why he has been able to rise through the ranks quickly and be rewarded with his league debut. Jason will be umpiring his 50th league game this weekend when he waves the flags in the game between East Fremantle and Claremont tomorrow. JT is an umpire who always put in maximum effort and never gives up, as we have all witnessed during the preseason fitness tests. Since making his debut, Jason has not missed a game of league football, which is testament to the quality of his performances. We wish both umpires all the very best in their milestone games, and congratulate them once again!!

18.01.2022 FRY-UP FOR AFL CHALLENGE AFL Rookie listed field umpire Jordan Fry will make his AFL debut tonight when he takes the field at Optus stadium in the West Coast and Essendon clash. Having debuted at WAFL league level as an 18-year-old in 2015, Jordan has been the model of consistency in the WAFL and AFLW in previous seasons, which earned him a promotion to the AFL Rookie list in 2020. ... Continuing on from this Jordan was appointed to his first WAFL grand final last year and was named the WAFL’s best field umpire as he won the Montgomery Medal. This appointment is a continuation of these high caliber performances and is very well deserved. Jordan will rotate on the field with 3 WA based colleagues in Dean Margetts, Jeff Dalgleish, and Dan Johanson, with Jeff and Dan, then flying out to Adelaide to double up in the Fremantle and Port Adelaide game in what is a unique weekend for umpiring with the Melbourne covid lockdown having an impact on appointments. All the best for tonight Jordan!

The WANFLUA would like to congratulate both Alex and Jai, and wish them well for their games on Saturday.

18.01.2022 HUNTY HANGS UP THE WHISTLE WANFLUA Life Member, six-time WAFL Grand Final umpire, and triple John Devine Medallist has announced this week that he is officially retiring from WAFL Umpiring. Brad has been an amazing member and contributor to the WANFLUA not just for his excellence as a boundary umpire which has seen him umpire 255 League games, including six Grand Finals and six State Games, but a person who has given his heart and soul to supporting the association through t...wo separate stints on the WANFLUA Committee. Brad has always been the ultimate professional when it has come to his training and preparation. Even his move down to the South West earlier this year did not stop him from umpiring at an elite level. His ability to act as a leader and a mentor for the majority of the boundary umpiring panel over this time is one of his great qualities and will be missed amongst our young boundary umpiring group. The WANFLUA wishes Brad and his wife Kylie his biggest supporter all the best in his retirement and we know that he won’t be a stranger to our group.

Despite moving down south this year, he has maintained his high standards of training and leadership, and continued to umpire at a high level. Jordy, who is umpiring the game between South Fremantle and Swan Districts on Saturday, will be umpiring his 100th league game. Despite being known for his happy and outgoing personality, Jordy is the ultimate professional when he steps onto the field. After taking a year off in 2016, Jordy has not missed a beat since coming back, culminating in his appointment to umpire the WAFL Grand Final last year.
