23.01.2022 Round 16 Section 1 Corowa Red have convincingly defeated Wang Hardcourt at Ball Park to set up an enthralling last round where the 4 top teams play one another ...and ladder positions are undecided. Corowa blew Hardcourt away early and from there Hardcourt were never a chance to close the gap and Corowa ran out comfortable winners. Mario Pane was outstanding for Hardcourt winning 2 sets and losing the other in a tiebreak, unfortunately for Mario, Hardcourt didn't have enough consistent contributors to put any pressure on Corowa. Corowa's was a team effort and they will need to perform to that standard again next week if they are to retain second position on the ladder. Wang Lawn cruised to victory over Chiltern at Merriwa Park and have given themselves an outside chance of claiming second postion on the ladder but it will take a huge effort and an ounce of luck for that to happen. Chiltern battled against the odds all day and kept Lawn honest with a never say die attitude which was typified by Jarrod McKinnar who has the dubious honour of not winning a set for the entire season. It wasn't his commitment that was lacking it was just the fact he played No.1 all year and ran up against the competitions' best players. Section 2 Everton Blue have the bragging rights over fellow co-tennants Everton White and in doing so have sewn up 3rd place on the ladder. Everton Blue have had a consistent season as opposed to last year's outstanding one and have eased their way into contention but will need a huge improvement if they are to trouble top team Wahgunyah Red. Everton White have struggled for numbers all year and their results reflect the fact that haven't been able to field the same team week in and week out. Everton Blue were in control of the co-tennant battle early and the eveness of the Blue side finally took it's toll on White who just couldn't sustain their efforts for long periods of time. Jo Barron, Julie Deretic & Mel Hellebrand were great contributors for White while Sam Bennett, Noel Kneebone & Dook Gibb shone for Blue team. Wahgunyah Red continue to roll along relentlessly as no one seems to be able contain the Wahgunyah juggernaut and this week it was Corowa that were swept away effortlessly and it appears only nerves or injury will stop Wahgunyah Red in taking home the cup. Corowa were no match for Wahgunyah, it their ability to sustain pressure for the entire set with aggressive and precision play that Corowa had no answers for. Travis "Old" McDonald & Adam Corcoran are proving they are cornerstone of this team, if they perform well the rest of the team gathers in confidence to ensure victory is there's. Ladder positions don't always predict outcomes and on Saturday this was correct, on paper and ladder position Wang Hardcourt should have had a comfortable win over Wahgunyah Blue but the Blue team are on a roll towards the end of the season and they have caused the weekends upset. The teams traded sets, the Hardcourt winning the women's sets and Wahgunyah the men's sets which meant Wahgunyah held a slender 2 game advantage heading into the mixed sets. When Wahgunyah's inform combination of Glen Bobbin & Fiona Rose won 8-1 then Tony Jones & Priscilla Hill won 8-1 the result was beyond doubt. Hardcourt sit 3 points clear of Boorhaman in 4th spot and need to hope that Wahgunyah Red continue to perform at their best and that they win at least a couple of sets to ensure their spot in the finals. Tomo Moriya, Kath Trainer & Marianna Hines (3 sets) were unstoppable for Hardcourt and with a little luck in the men's sets the result could have been different. Rutherglen have turned to play and have all but dashed Boorhaman's hopes of playing finals with a dazzling performance of power tennis from the Rutherglen men while the Boorhaman women had the upperhand which set up an enthralling finish to the match. Maddi Pianto & Josh Quick (3 sets) and Sheila & Peter Smith (3 sets) put the match out of Boorhaman's reach when they won their mixed sets easily. Hayley Thomsom, Shirley Fuller & Sally O'Donohue (3 sets) were impressive for Boorhaman and the defeat wasn't laying at their feet. Section 3 Wahgunyah Blue (Jake Saville, Tye Callow, Matt Vogel, Liam Hill) have gained the ascendancy and now have the wood over their closest rivals Wahgunayah Red (Andrew Palmer, Peter Treberly, Brett Skinner, Kane Palmer) as the finals loom. The 2 decisive sets for Blue involved Tye Callow who is developing into a consistent and a thinking tennis player while Brett Skinner & Kane Palmer performed best for Wahgunyah Red. It appears these 2 teams will be the main forces in the Section 3 finals and with a little luck the tables and fortunes could be easily reversed. Wooragee (Liam Ladbrook, Skip Peiper, Ebony Boote, William Elhave) defeated Chiltern (Hamish Smyth, Molly Williams, Bridie Murphy, Amy Ziebarth) comfortably on Saturday and have ensured themselves 3rd place on the ladder. Chiltern's season has ended and with a big off season of practice and coaching I'm surre they will return a different outfit next year and push all teams in Section 3 and they steadily improved throughout the season. Wooragee live to fight another day and the world is their oyster. Results Section 1 Corowa Red 7-64 def Wang Hardcourt 2-35, Wang Lawn 9-72 def Chiltern 0-23 Section 2 Rutherglen 5-56 def Boorhaman 4-43, Wahgunyah Red 9-72 def Corowa 0-23, Everton Blue 7-69 def Everton White 2-31, Wahgunyah Blue 5-52 def Wang Hardcourt 4-43 Section 3 Wahgunyah Blue 3-42 def Wahgunyah Red 3-35, Under 15 Chiltern 4-28 drew Corowa 3-29, Wahgunyah 5-83 def Beechworth 2-22 Ladders Section 1 Corowa Blue 77.5, Corowa Red 66, Wang Hardcourt 64, Wang Lawn 63.5, Chiltern 13 Section 2 Wahgunyah Red 115, Myrrhee 88, Everton Blue 76, Wang Hardcourt 66, Boorhaman 63, Wahgunyah Blue 52, Rutherglen 50, Corowa 46, Everton White 36 Section 3 Wahgunyah Red 69, Wahgunyah Blue 60, Wooragee 38, Wahgunyah United 20, Chiltern 0 Under 15 Wahgunyah 61.5, Corowa 45, Chiltern 32, Beechworth 26.5

20.01.2022 Good luck to both our section 1 and 2 teams in the finals!

18.01.2022 Hi all, Thursday night will be commencing tonight 18/06 at 7pm. Come down and have a social hit of tennis. We are able to start normal competition as of 22/06/2020 with all guidelines as recommended by Tennis Victoria. Hope to see you there!!

16.01.2022 Hi All, Easing of the COVID enforced restrictions enable us to resume regular competition. There are still some basic guidelines we need to follow such as social distancing and sanitation but being a non-contact sport we can play as normal. The timing works well for us as this is the time of year we would normally start our Thursday night summer competition, following on from the school holidays.... We will start on Thursday 8th October at 7:00 pm. As we normally do, the first couple of Thursday nights will just be a hit to give everyone a chance to get used to playing again and for us to see who wants to play. If you are unable to make it on those nights then let Marg Mundie (0413 451 466) or myself know that you intend to play. The Tuesday morning ladies is also starting again. If you are interested in playing contact Marg Mundie. It will be great to get back playing again and catching up with each other. See you on the court!

14.01.2022 Semi Finals Section 1 Corowa Blue have booked themselves a place in the Grand Final with a victory over Wang Hardcourt at the HP Barr Reserve on Saturday. The ...day started disastrously for Hardcourt when they fell behind Corowa early and were forced to play catch up tennis for the rest of the day. After losing the first 4 sets Hardcourt had all but handed Corowa their place in the Grand Final but as all good teams do, they rallied and began to put some scoreboard pressure on Corowa with 2 convincing wins. With only the mixed sets left the equation for Hardcourt was simple, win the 3 mixed sets and force a super tie break and on paper this was a possibility and initially it looked a reality as Corowa were starting to wobble. Hardcourt lead early in all 3 mixed sets and when Denise Goodwin & Andy Lucas won 8-3 Hardcourt were on a roll and Corowa were beginning to panic as Hardcourt seemed to have control of the 2 remaining sets. Peter Filliponi & Helen Fuge put the result beyond doubt for Corowa as they regained their composure and finished over the top of their opponents and the icing on the cake came when Darrell Spencer & Claire Davidson won. Denise Goodwin & Andy Lucas were the standouts for Hardcourt and when they teamed with Di Lucas and Chris Lucas they managed to put the pressure back onto Corowa. Darrell Spencer (3 sets) & Helen Fuge (3 sets) were unstoppable all day and when Claire Davidson & Peter Filliponi chipped in with a couple Corowa were always in control. Section 2 The Section 2 finals specialists Everton Blue have finally lost their lustre as they were unable to sustain enough pressure on Myrrhee early and with their tails up and confidence running high Myrrhee put a huge gap between themselves and Everton. Myrrhee won the first 5 sets convincingly to put the match beyond the reach of Everton and with the pressure valve released Myrrhee began to coast and allowed Everton to put some respectibility on the scoreboard. Myrrhee never looked like relinquishing the lead, as Di Griifin, Robyn Oliver, Dylan Van Berlo, Daniel Griffin, Cath Van Berlo & Phil Corker were hellbent on winning and having another crack at Wahgunyah Red next week. The signs weren't good for Everton early in the week, as they organised their end of season dinner for last Saturday !!!!!! A bad omen. Myrrhees' was a team effort but Cathy Van Berlo was a clear cut above the rest with 3 sets while Everton's Russell Bennett, Noel Kneebone, San Bennett & Coralie Peters battled against the odds. Section 3 Wahgunyah Red (Andrew Palmer, Wayne Johnstone, Peter Trebley, Kane Palmer) have advanced to the Grand Final after defeating Wahgunyah United (Brad Scmidt, Dave Harris, Rob Hill, Matt Davis) on Saturday. Red were a little shaky early and played nervous tennis which allowed United into the match but once the nerves had been shaken off and they had regained their composure, Red took control and showed why they were the top team for most of the year. Red ran away to be clear winners but to United's credit they fought to the end and pushed Red all the way. Grand Final Predictions Section 1 - Corowa Blue have been the form team all year and only stumbled last week but have redeemed themselves this week and will start slight favourites at Home against Wang Lawn. Never underestimate Lawn as they are proven finals campaigners and will provide a contest to the end . Corowa Blue to win the super tiebreak. Section 2 - It would a brave person to bet against Wahgunyah Red they have been invincible all year and have dispatched all teams with relative ease and it is hard to see Myrrhee changing this this week. If Myrrhee are to challenge Wahgunyah they will need to perform at their best but if they can win a couple of early sets the wheels might fall off Wahgunyah's little Red wagon. Section 3 - The Wahgunyah Blue Vs Wahgunyah Red will be an interesting match as results have been split during the season and only recently have Blue gained the upperhand and held the bragging rights. This will go right to the wire and possibly the match could be decided at the selection table Red to win. Results Section 1 Corowa Blue 6-59 def Wang Hardcourt 3-50 Section 2 Myrrhee 6-60 def Everton Blue 3-42 Section 3 Wahgunyah Red 5-44 def Wahgunyah United 1-28

13.01.2022 Round 2 Section 1 Lawn White have started the season with 2 good performances and this week Corowa tasted defeat at the hands of Lawn White. It was nip and tuck... early as both teams traded sets but it was Lawn White that found their rhythm first and settled well,to comprehensively win the last 2 sets before the mixed sets to give them a 4-2 and 13 game advantage. Darrell Spencer & Marianne Spencer gave Corowa some hope when the defeated the highly fancied pairing of Andrew Pyta & Janelle Hartwig but White steadied and won the last 2 sets to record a run away win. Wendy Hogan (3 sets) & Shaun Ablazej lead the way for White and it was left to Darrell Spencer (3 sets), Craig Spencer & Marianne Spencer to add some respectibility to the scoreboard for Corowa. The Lawn Blue & Wang Hardcourt clash was a game of "what ifs & if onlys" as it was an absorbing match and one in which the result wasn't reflective of the closeness of the match throughout. Lawn took the inital 2 sets 8-6 then Hardcourt managed an 8-3 win but Lawn continued to sneak over the line in the close ones winning the next 3 sets 8-6, 8-6 & 8-7. Lawn Blue had their noses in front with the mixed sets to come and they continued their good form winning all 3 mixed sets to run out comfortable winners on the scoreboard. Jono Keys was impressive for Blue and with good support roles from Ken Parker & Emily Brown Lawn held on for a victroy, it was left to Hardcourts Andy Lucas, Denise Goodwin & Lynne Shepherd to fly the colours for Hardcourt. Section 2 The Wang Hardcourt - Wahgunyah Blue match was topsy turvy from the start and result reflected the eveness of the 2 teams (a draw). Wahgunyah Blue's men had complete control of their matches while the Hardcourt women were in total domination of the Wahgunyah women which by the time the mixed sets began Wahgunyah held a 2 game advantage. The game was blown apart when Wahgunyah's Tony Jones & Jackie Seymour won 8-0 which made it hard for Hardcourt to make up the leeway but to their credit they didn't hang their heads they dug deep and won the 2 remaining sets to force a draw. Tony Jones, Glen Bobbin & Mark Webb were Wahgunyah's best while Marianna Hines, Maria Pulvirenti & Lucas Alexander were impressive for Hardcourt. Wahgunyah Red have have started their defence of last years flag in impressive form with a win over another flag fancy Rutherglen. Wahgunyah Red's men overshadowed the Rutherglen men while Rutherglen had the upperhand in the womens sets which positioned Wahgunyah ahead by 11 games heading into the mixed sets where Wahgunyah managed to stretch their lead run away easy winners. Jesse Johnstone, Ethan Palmer & Kylie Greig were consistent for Wahgunyah while Rachel Crawford, Samantha Mase & Maddie Pianto were composed under pressure for Rutherglen. Everton Red and Myrrhee fought out a thrilling draw with the result in the balance until the last point was won. The early sets were split and when Everton's Steve Cole & Alan Wood won they put Everton in front close to the mixed sets but Myrrhee's Robyn Oliver & Cathy Van Berlo held on to win a tense tie break to ensure teams headed into the 3 mixed sets with the scores level. Myrrhee's Rob Seymour & Cathy Van Berlo out of the blocks and gave Myrrhe the advantage with a 8-5 victory while the other 2 sets were engaged in close and enthralling matches. Both went to the wire and Everton hung on to win 2 nail biting tie breaks sets which put the final scoreline at Everton 5-60 & Myrrhee 4-61. Good players were easy to find for both sides but Everton's Ben Kneebone, Steve Cole & Julie Deretic stood out and Myrrhee's Di Griffin, Cathy Van Berlo & Rob Seymour just shaded their team mates. Everton Blue have overwhelmed Boorhaman on Saturday and broke their spirit when they claimed a couple of early tie break sets and Boorhaman never recovered while Everton Blue went from strength to strength and ran out comfotable winners. Russell Bennett, Rowan Kneebone & Sam Bennett were best for Everton while evergreen Shirley Fuller, Sally O'Donoghue & Jane McInnes never stopped trying for Boorhaman. Section 3 Wooragee (Skip Peiper, Ebony Boote, Annika Knoth, Leah) have dashed Chiltern Red's (Grace Birthisel, Molly Williams, Ben Beattie, Millie Beatie) hopes of starting the season with 2 wins when they won easily on Saturday. Wooragee now have the added pressure as they sit on top of the ladder and are now the hunted. Wahgunyah Black (Jake Saville, Priscilla Hill, Corey Hill,Brodie Molnar) have returned to the winners list against Chiltern White (Amy Ziebarth, Bridie Murphy, Sarah Birthisel, Jamie) after last weeks diasterous start to the season. Chiltern start well taking the first set but it was all downhill from there as Wahgunyah Black had a comfortable victory. Well the Wangaratta Hardcourts is entering a team in division 1 and a team in division 2 for this summers local NERTA competition. This is a Saturday afternoon competition and includes teams from our region. We are looking for players who would like to play, particularly for division 2. The competition starts on October 31st. 12.01.2022 Round 1 After a delayed start to the season NERTA began their 2020-21 competition under the threat of dark clouds and the possibility of rain and storms, luckil...y most games were completed. Section 1 Corowa started the year with a good win over Wang Hardcourts and moved to the top of the ladder a position they should hold for most of the season. Hardcourt were behind the 8 ball early losing the first 4 sets to the highly skilled Corowa outfit and tried to play catch up tennis but once Corowa had a taste of victory they ensured that Hardcourt would never recover from the early Corowa onslaught. Darrell Spencer, Maianne Spencer & Peter Filliponi were outstanding for Corowa while Lynne Shepherd, Di Lucas & Andy Lucas battled hard for Hardcourts. Lawn Blue and Lawn White played a draw with White jumping to an early lead winning the first 3 sets but Blue hit back taking the next 3, but it was Emily Brown & Susie Bennett that gave the Blue team the advantage heading into the mixed sets with a faultless display in their set. Andrew Pyta & Wendy Hogan set up a grandstand finish when they outclassed their opponents and when Blue's Jono Keys & Susie Bennett won thier set, they had managed to salvage a draw for the Blue team. Best for Blue - Jono Keys, Emily Brown & Susie Bennett, while White were best served by - Wendy Hogan, Andrew Pyta & Carolyn Shaw. Section 2 Wahgunyah Red have started their new campaign and defence of last years flag with a solid win over an ever improving Boorhaman team. Wahgunyah Red appeared to be in total control for most of the day and the result proved that to be the case. If Boorhaman had been steadier in a couple of the close sets they could have come away with a closer result but as all good teams do they win the tight sets and Wahgunyah managed to do this. Travis McDonald, Jesse Johnstone & Sonia Palmer lead the way for Wahgunyah and Kirsty Tyers, Kane Tyers & Hayley Thomson never stopped trying for Boorhaman. Wahgunyah Blue were not match for the Myrrhee team who will once again figure in the finals come March next year after this display. This was a team effort by Myrrhee although Di Griffin, Dylan Van Berlo & Rob Seymour slightly outshone their team mates. Olivia Pepper, Mark Webb & Glen Bobbin battled against the odds for Wahgunyah Blue. Rutherglen appear to be the big improvers this year after they dispatched Wang Hardcourt on their home courts. Several new faces for Rutherglen have improved their chances for this season while Hardcourt appear they maybe just of the pace unless they can find some consistency. Josh Quick, Helen Fuge & Rachel Crawford were outstanding for Rutherglen while Marika Van Stekelenberg, Marianna Hines & Lucas Alexander showed their is hope for Hardcourt. Everton Red took the honours against Everton Blue with a consistent performance against their at times eratic oppponents. Eleisha Kneebone, Jenny Cooper & Russell Bennett were the backbone of the Blue team while Rob Findlay, Ruth Kneebone & Alan Wood are proving to be evergreen for the Red team. Section 3 Wahgunyah Gold and Wooragee began the day under dark clouds and it wasnt long before the heavens opened up and put an end to the days proceedings after Wahgunyah Gold had takenb the first 2 sets. Wahgunyah Red (Andrew Palmer, Kane Palmer, Peter Trebely, Oliver Strove) were too good for Wahgunyah Black (Jake Saville, Brodie Molnar, Corey Hill, Mat Vogel) in trying conditions at the Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve. Red were in control early and with the more consistent play they managed to hold off the Black team.
