14.01.2022 Movember is all about bringing back the moustache, having fun and doing it for a serious cause; men’s health, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health. Mo Bros commit to grow a moustache for the 30 days of Movember, and in doing so become walking and talking billboards for the cause. The moustache is our ribbon, the symbol by which we generate conversations, awareness and raise funds for men’s health. https://yourhealthlink.health.nsw.gov.au//movember-austra/
12.01.2022 Dementia affects close to half a million Australians. That number is set double in the next 25 years. Many Australians will start experiencing the impact of dementia amongst their own family and friends in the coming years. With so many people impacted now and into the future, it is vital we clear up some of the prevailing misconceptions about dementia. People living with dementia can continue to live active and rich lives many years after diagnosis. It is our role as a comm...unity to do the best we can to support people living with dementia to live well for as long as possible. https://www.dementia.org.au/dementia-action/understand-more
12.01.2022 November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, provides the opportunity to raise community awareness of lung cancer and the signs and symptoms of the disease. Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in Australia with around 12,000 people diagnosed in Australia each year. The symptoms of lung cancer can often be vague and mimic those of other conditions, so it’s important to know what your cough is telling you. If lung cancer is found at an earlier stage, there is more chance of a b...etter outcome. It’s important to know the symptoms of lung cancer as although lung cancer occurs mostly in people aged 60 and over, it can affect people of any age. New and constantly evolving treatments such as immunotherapy are likely to continue to improve outcomes for people affected by lung cancer. What are the symptoms? coughing up blood a new or changed cough that doesn’t go away chest pain and/or shoulder pain or discomfort the pain may be worse with coughing or deep breathing trouble breathing or shortness of breath hoarse voice weight loss loss of appetite chest infection that doesn’t go away tiredness or weakness Many conditions can cause these symptoms, not just lung cancer. Anyone can get lung cancer, even if they have never smoked. If you have any of these symptoms and they are persistent, talk to your doctor.

We can all look after our hearts and help to prevent CVD by eating a healthy diet, saying no to tobacco, sticking to safe alcohol guidelines and getting plenty of exercise setting an example for our children and loved ones. https://www.world-heart-federation.org/world-heart-day/

02.01.2022 World mental health day! 1 in 5 Australians are affected by mental health illness annually, yet many don't seek help because of stigma. During the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritising mental health and wellbeing has been more important than ever. This mental health day- the message is simple: "Look after your mental health, Australia". https://lookafteryourmentalhealthaustralia.org.au/
02.01.2022 Postnatal Depression Awareness Week will now be known as Perinatal Depression and Anxiety (PANDA) Awareness Week. This change is in response to the importance of recognising and supporting parents’ mental health right through the perinatal period (during pregnancy and after birth). Antenatal anxiety and depression are strong risk factors in developing postnatal anxiety and depression. Early treatment during pregnancy can reduce these risks. We need to consider a parent’s well...being across this continuum, rather than viewing these periods as separate. In this most unusual and difficult year we firmly believe that PANDA Week it is more important than ever. With many expecting and new parents struggling due to COVID-19 and associated restrictions, it’s critical that we work together to support families facing mental health challenges at this time. https://www.panda.org.au/awareness/panda-week See more
