25.01.2022 KIDS COMPETITION TIME In an emergency we might not have time to pack or find things that are important to us. That’s why everyone should pack an e...mergency kit in advance. Not only is it easy, it’s a great way to talk to kids about emergencies and help them feel prepared and less anxious. The colouring sheet attached is a great way to start the conversation with kids about packing an emergency box. We want to encourage that conversation by running a colouring contest for kids in the Rural City of Wangaratta. The colouring contest will run until 14 December. To enter, upload a photo of the coloured in page along with your child’s first name and age only in the comments. 10 winners will be randomly chosen on December 15. Prizes include vouchers for Toyworld, Booktique, WSAC and more! Copies have been sent out to local schools, and can be picked up from Customer Service at the Council offices. 14.01.2022 ROAD CLOSED If you are heading into the CBD this morning, please note there is a section of Docker Street closed. From today until Saturday the 28th of... November Docker Street between the Railway Station exit ramp and Mackay Street, will be closed. Access to the open section of Docker Street will be from Mackay Street off Rowan street. A local, signed detour will be in place. We wish to apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause. This extended closure will allow us to complete a sizable piece of work, speeding up our overall construction time. The good news is that the whole precinct is looking fabulous! So if you are feeling like a walk, check out the Norton Street upgrades in place. #togetherwangcan

12.01.2022 Wangaratta SES helped 12 households yesterday with storm impact. These were in Wangaratta town area but we are hoping all towns and households in our area 'weathered' the storm OK. Remember the Wangaratta SES works in all areas of the Rural City of Wangaratta. If you are out and about today, more heavy rain and possible flash flooding is predicted again today. NEVER enter or play in floodwaters.

09.01.2022 Think Storm Safe for your pets too

09.01.2022 Our Wangaratta members have been very busy lately, not just with requests for assistance from our community, but also preparing for the big move into our new unit. This morning members were inducted into the building, where they were shown around and also shown how different things operate. Next will be the big move early next week and we will be operational from our new home..

07.01.2022 It’s getting rather nasty outside with the heat and wind... please stay vigilant around trees, especially with falling branches. Stay hydrated, check on your neighbours and don’t leave pets or children in vehicles..

06.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart I announce the tragic death of Senior Constable Kelly Foster yesterday. The brave member gave her life in order to try and save a femal...e who was caught in a whirlpool at Wollangambe. Sadly, bodies of both women were later located. We would like to send our condolences to the Foster family and Kelly's colleagues. Rest in peace Kelly, Code 8 and off.
