25.01.2022 WANGS Results Navy v Civilians Day Individual Stableford Secret Harbour Golf Links Friday 23/10/20 41 Starters... Civilians Reign Supreme. Once again the Civilians get their name on the trophy and make it 2 wins in 3 years, how did we do it, With great Ease. Well captained by Kevin and Kim as we rallied our troops to get down to Secrets to get the points on the board and win easily. As you can see by the look on Tigers face, he and Robbie Robertson were not too happy, they tried their hardest but could not muster the team to get the job done and will need to work hard to get a win in 2021. A big thanks to all who turned up to make it a great day, thanks also to Secret Harbour Golf Links for their continued sponsorship. We look forward to our continued annual event at Secrets. The individual Stableford winner with a nice 38 Points was Carlos. Carlos Almeida, a big congratulations to You, with a great game, closely followed by Matt Lyons on Count Back with 37 Points, then Paul Sinden, Count Back 37 Points, then Steve Higgins 37 Points and Peter Odonohue 36 Points. NAGA going to an out of form Tom Byrne go Army with an awesome 12 Points. Some good Match Play games with Maggie over Steve Hazell 5/3, Mick Currie over Tom Byrne 5/4, with the biggest result of the day Pod over Wayne Merritt 7/6, well done to all. We now head to Sanctuary Thursday for the Ambrose day, then Capel Friday and culminating at Busselton Golf Club for 2 days of Stroke for our Club Championships. 25.01.2022 WANGS Special announcement Afternoon to All WANGS members - 15 Oct 2020 As you all know we are rapidly approaching the championship weekend and AGM, noting that we have record number of our members participating in the weekend. Please find below a reminder for all WANGS members. As the situation (Covid 19) continues to develop with daily variations In the eastern states, your committee continues to monitor and think it timely to remind all. ... At this current time, we in WA are in a unique position of being able to participate in golf events , we hope that we will continue in this environment and to that end we all should ensure that we align to the guidance provided by state and medical authorities. By necessity when considering the health and age of our members., I wish to remind all of the requirement to 1. Maintain social distancing 2. ensure frequent handwashing and hygiene 3. the restrictions are designed to limit the spread of the virus 4. be cognisant of the individual club requirements / rules that we are utilising whilst playing. 23.01.2022 WANGS Announcement Navy V Civilians to contest the Butler-Gornall Trophy At Secret Harbour Golf Links Friday 23/10/20 Trophy and competition inaugurated in 2018 won by Civilians. Contested again in 2019 won by Navy.... Contested Friday 23/10/20 won by ?????? The Trophy is run in conjunction with a normal WANGS individual Stableford Competition. The team with the highest combined score to hold the trophy until the next contest, currently held by Navy. So I encourage both teams to get your names to Robbie Robertson as soon as possible, so your team can hold the trophy aloft at the end of the day and have bragging rites for the rest of the year. There will be a few new guidelines to follow please see BELOW CARTS Use is 1 player per Cart. Pull Buggys are good to go.... Players will MARK their own CARD. Partners score, will be checked and MARKED on that card. There will be NO RAKES in the bunkers, Rules for the day will be hand smooth and place. Presentation of the winners and novelties, will still happen outside at this stage but may change closer to the event. We will still be following the guidelines of distanced socialising. 21.01.2022 WANGS PLAYERS. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. Sanctuary Golf Resort, Bunbury WA Friday the 20/03/2020 is our annual pilgrimage to the beautiful Sanctuary Golf Resort. It is a great course, DONT miss the event. Event is classed as a normal WANGS Friday game.... Tee times will be from 12.30pm. The committee will consider a 2 Tee Start, this will also depend on course availability and the number of Wangs players nominated and confirmed for the event. So if you wish to play, then put your name down on the form at next weeks game at Kwinana. 21.01.2022 Hi all WANGS players. Phil Porter, wanted to say a big thanks to all the members from himself and Malibu School for our donation, which was raised from our loud shirt day at Capel last October. A picture below of the happy recipients after the donation. So once again thanks to all who donated, so WANGS was able to make the generous donation. We will continue the fund raising at our next game at Capel in October 2020.

20.01.2022 WANGS Results 16/10/20 Mick Currie Monthly Medal Meadow Springs Golf Club, Stableford 33 Starters Another awesome day on the fairways at Meadow Springs. I got the pleasure to play with the long time life Member in Mick Currie, a great role model for all WANGS players to look up to. Still plays a good golf game and easily took me out 2/1 in the Match Play, thanks for the day Mick.... Congratulations to Scott Brown, having another great game and winning the day with a nice 40 Points, Mr consistent this year with quite a few wins under his belt already, as we move towards the Club Championships. Scott would have to be one of the favourites, with his resent results. Coming in a close second we have Rocky Burnett On Count Back 39 Points, from Mal Kent 39 Points, then Paul Milne 38 Points and Brendon Corver 37 Points. NAGA going to Ted Cowled with a small 17 Points. Some good Match Play games with Paul Milne taking out Neil Thatcher 6/5 and taking the best Match Play for the day was Wayne Merritt winning 7/5 over Greg Czubek. Lots of Birdies on Par 3 holes to many to list, well done to all. We return to Secret Harbour Golf Links, this coming Friday 23/10/20, last game before Club Championships so get down there for some valuable practice. 20.01.2022 WANGS Results Rockingham 9/10/20, Stroke. Another great day out on the course, playing Stroke as we lead up to the Club Championships. The Captain and Vice Captain giving us all a few Stroke fixtures to sharpen our game. With another Stroke game coming up next week as we return to Meadow Springs Golf Club Friday 16/10/20. A week of good scores with about 10 people finishing under Net 72 for the day, but there were a few standouts. A big congratulations to our winner this week... in Stephen Hazell, having a day out with an Eagle and taking first place with an impressive Net 66, another victim for you Mark De Thierry. He was followed by Gary Mason Net 68, followed by Trevor Brown Net 69 on countback from Maggie Neil Thatcher, Net 69, then Mark Stanley Hammer with Net 70. NAGA to Mike Michael Stankovic. A first for WANGS starting this week with a ladies longest Drive which was won by Sharon Mason, Matchplay, Peter Bullock taking out Kim Bailey 6/4 with the biggest margin being Stephen Hazell over Paul Sinden 7/6. 20.01.2022 Hi all, WANGS game Friday 29/11/19 at Rockingham Golf Club. Glen Askew cup individual Stableford. Those who attended got to try out the cored greens before we play Open Day at Rockingham this coming Friday 6/12/19. It was certainly a tough putting day. The Glen Askew cup being won by an inform Mick Hoar with a nice 40 points, well done Mick its been a while, followed by Mick Warren on count back with 39 points from Mick Currie 39, then Alan Baker on count back from Ian Brigg...s both wit 37. NAGA to an out of form Chris Henderson with 15 points, must mention a big return to form of Dave Parry with 36 points winning Match Play over Tom Byrne 6/5. Well done to all. Butler/Gornall Navy v Civilian Cup Navy v Civilian day was also played on this Friday, which was won this season by the NAVY Congratulations to all the Navy guys, that makes the score Civilians 1 and Navy 1. Kevin Butler and I look forward to the return match at Secret Harbour Golf Links in the 2020 season where the Civilians will be favourite once again to go ahead 2/1 on home soil. WANGS is back up and running, first game back at Pinjarra this week, since the 20th March 2020, so after a near on 3 month break due to the restrictions for Covid19, we got to hit the fairways as a group again. Pinjarra was our first game back, with 34 starters. Great day had by all played in near perfect winter weather, lots of sunshine. Jamie Taylor showing us all the way with a nice 38 points playing off a 2 handicap with a Par round of golf, well don...e Jamie. Followed by Marty Williams, Mark Richard, Dave Parry and Maggie Thatcher. Taking out the NAGA was Anje Metsola. All other results below, with a picture of Jason Harris Teeing off the 1st hole while wearing his Moose Hat, I believe he handed the Moose hat to another member after that player had a bad score on one 9 that day, was that Steve Hazell??? Next week Wangs is at Rockingham Golf Club, 26/06/20. This game should be popular, so as per normal contact the vice captain. 18.01.2022 WANGS Weekly Results. Friday 14/08/20 Kim Gornall Monthly Medal, Secret Harbour Golf Links Stableford 39 Starters. Thanks to Secret Harbour Golf Links for your sponsorship. Once again a well organised event by Robbie Robertson and Tiger Lyons.... A very competitive day with some close scores. Winner on countback was Paul Haggie, congratulations Paul, with a nice 38, after being struck down by Ross River Virus, Paul has come back in fine form and put a good game together this week. Not far behind with a good score of 38 as well, was Rocky Burnett, Rocky hasnt played Wangs in a while, but shows he hasnt lost anything. Mr consistent in Scott Brown, with 37 points on countback from Brett Spears with 37, from Brendan Corver 36 Points. NAGA this week to Carolyn Jones. Pink Ball award to Kim Gornall, for breaking his Gap Wedge on the 8th hole, interesting. 17.01.2022 WANGS Tiger Lyons Monthly Medal 24/01/20 Pinjarra Golf Club. Stroke event. Great day out at Pinjarra to help celebrate Tiger Lyons Monthly Medal. With 33 players turning up to Honour our Captain and the mercurial clubman for all his hard work over many years, good low handicap golfer, Tiger nearly pulled off winning his own Monthly Medal and playing Match play against Kenny Graham and getting a nice win over Ken 4/3. There was just one better, showing his club championship wi...n at Busselton was no fluke was Greg Gzubeck with a great score of Net 68. Greg now seems to be finding some consistency with his game and that is showing with his handicap coming in quickly and maybe more quickly after Andy Spencer sorts through the Pinjarra results. It was good to see the return of Mark Dethiery after knee surgery, mind you he struggled in his first game back for 18 months. As you will see below Winners for the Week : . Greg Gzubeck. Net 68 . 14.01.2022 Hi all WANGS players. WANGS game 20/03/20, Sanctuary Golf Resort, Bunbury WA. Good mild weather and 37 players, greens a little 2 paced after being spiked and sanded. Course is a real thinkers track where you cant just bomb away. We had a few who played the course well, but none better than Scott Brown. Got the opportunity to play along side Scott and in the latter holes we were calling him Up and Down Brown, chips, bunkers and short irons in he was able to work it close and... then Putt well into the Cup. Congratulations Scott well played, followed by big hitter Paul Haggie, Mal Kent, Tiger and Kevin Kempers, Trevor Brown and Phil Porter. 14.01.2022 Good evening to all Your committee has worked hard to get the history and the association with the Royal Australian Navy aligned whilst ensuring that the history of WANGs has a home along with significant trophies. With some persistence and collaboration with HMAS STIRLING, CPO Tim Ayling, Tom Byrne, Jason Harris and a number of others, we have achieved a great display which is now at the entrance to the off watch centre with Navy Golf on one side of the entrance and WANGS on the other. Well done to all involved a legacy which will endue for a long time to come, great to see as we move towards another great year of social golf with a fantastic association with Navy golf. 14.01.2022 WANGS results Friday 3/07/20. Secret Harbour Golf Links. Peter Odonohue Monthly Medal, Stableford 52 Starters. Sponsored by Pod and Secret Harbour Golf Links. Played in awesome weather with a large field, with some good scores coming in by some of the home club players only to be pipped by a resurgent Mark Dethiery, with a great 42 points. Its good to see Mark back playing some good games over the last 2 weeks after recent Knee surgery.... As your the handicapper we are all keen to see what you play off next week, keep up the form. A close second with 41 points was Trevor Brown, followed by Carlos Almeida c/b 40 points, Kim Gornall 40 points and Peter John Bullock c/b 38 Points, well done guys some good scores right there. 14.01.2022 WANGS week 2, The Links Kennedy Bay Golf Course 17/01/20, 33 players. Warm day, windy later in the afternoon and the course played easily by the look of the scores, or was it just easy for all the local members, you be the judge. A big congratulations to Jason Harris, with a big return to form, excellent 37 off the stick on the front 9 and turning 6 up in the matchplay over the president in Steve Hazell. An excellent 44 points with a wipe and was able to negotiate all the bun...kers with precision or was just lucky as Steve Hazell would of been saying. Steve fought back to only lose his Matchplay 6/4. So after 2 weeks Tom Byrne will be busy chopping the last couple of winners handicaps, enjoy that job with a smile Tom, Tom Byrne with the best Matchplay win 7/6 over Glen Askew. Naga today going down to the wire with Pod either losing or winning the count back to Gary Lock. Andy Taylor with a nice Eagle on the 13th hole, awesome Andy. 10.01.2022 WANGS weekly update. Game at Pinjarra Golf Club, 28/02/20 Stableford. 25 players. Course in top condition, windy early, fast greens even though they were a little damp. Winner for this week was a regular winner over the last 12 months. After retirement his game has gone ahead in leaps and bounds, congratulations to Wayne Merritt on his win with a nice 38 points, followed by Jorma Metsola with 35 Points. 10.01.2022 Afternoon to All WANGS members - 14 April 2020 As many of you know the golf courses have reopened in WA, although they have numerous restrictions. After a number of questions and a bit of confusion from our members, please find below an update for all WANGS members. As the situation (Covid 19) continues to develop with daily variations, your committee is monitoring and shall convene a committee meeting as soon as it is practical and in line with the current regulations... to allow the restart of WANGS. We hope that we will be able to restart WANGS schedule for 2020, but at this stage WANGS remains suspended in line with the advice provided as of 25 March 2020 . Current Advice I regretfully wish to advise all members that effective immediately we will be suspending WANGS 2020 competition season, until further advice is provided, the committee will complete a review as the issue changes. From today 25 March 2020, All WANGS Games are to be suspended, with committee to review status of the COVID 19 issue in late April 2020. Current opportunities to exercise (not WANGS competitions) - As stated by necessity when considering the age of our members and after careful consideration of current advice, it would be unwise of us to promote a gathering of people under the WANGs banner. However - A number of Tee spots (2x persons) were secured for Secret harbour last Friday and a number have been secured for this Friday at Meadow Springs with luck we may be able to secure more in future weeks. and these are available by contacting Robbie Robertson by text, he will advise in reply text if there is a Tee spot open or if all have been filled. These are not WANGS days they are an opportunity to get out and exercise, to be clear , they are not a WANGs competition. They are an opportunity for each individual to make their own judgement call and decide if attending they will be able to apply the correct rules in completing exercise whilst still being cognisant of social distancing and the individual club requirements / rules. An update will provided to all, at the end of April 2020/ start of May 2020, unless major changes are seen, then the committee will review the situation. Another great day to be out on the golf course, as per usual some of us played the course well and some no so. ... The outstanding palyer for the day Craig Eaton with a blazing 43 points, one wipe and 4 putts to try and help the handicap on the last, but taking the first palce honour fron Neil "maggie" Thatcher who for a fleeting moment thought he was in with a chance with 42. A big congratulations to Craig finishing with a great score of 43 Points and taking the honours, followed by Maggie 42, then Marc Woolner and losing countback on 38 Mic Warren, rounding out top five was Liam Seery on 36 Points. 09.01.2022 Tom Spencer Day at Secret Harbour Golf Links, Friday 22/11/19. Tom the Wangs gentleman, club champion of 2017 and a valuable member of Wangs for many years. Surely missed by all at Wangs during our comps over most of 2019, Tom Spencer we celebrate you, we all hope your hitting them straight and we will now bow our heads and have a bevy or two in your honour, cheers mate thanks for the memories. WANGS results winning in very blustery conditions with a nice 38 points is Mal Ken...t, followed by a gallant Andy Spencer with 37 points, then Paul Haggie 36, Gary Mason 34 countback from Ken Graham 34. Wayne joined Wangs many moons back and continues to be a good competitor especially since retirement. He has a wicked sense of humour and is a great role model for what Wangs is all about, thanks again Wayne for all your contributions to Wangs. Weather for the day was awesome for the middle of winter, played... on a nice course with some tough pin placements, keeping the scores quite low, this week. The winner this week was one of our new members coming in with a good 39 Points was Brian Scott, well done Brian keep up the good golf. Followed by Peter John Bullock C/b 34 Points, then the ever consistent Scott Brown 34 Points, Greg Giles C/b 33 Points, Robbie Robertson 33 Points, congratulations to all the winners. A warm day and the course was in great condition, good turn out of 41 players to open the season, the first of 54 games to be played this year. Program for year in pics below. Scores yearly at Kwinana seem to be hard to come by, scores of between 36 & 38 stableford Points, win most games there year in year out. It just goes to show if you are a consistent player you go well at Kwinana. That showed this week with the ever consistent Tiger Lyons, who hits it down the middle and stays out of trouble, another is Brendan Corver a super straight iron player, so ...it is no surprise to see these 2 in the winners circle. 07.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL WANGS MEMBERS Afternoon to All WANGS members - 29 May 2020 Firstly thanks to Robbie for providing some great organisation in getting initially groups of two and now four out and about and continuing the theme of mateship and golf in the CIOVID 19 environment, whilst not under the WANGS banner but certainly in line with our ethos.... As most would know the golf courses have reopened in WA, although they have restrictions. In order to provide all an update and to allow planning, please find below an update for all WANGS members. We currently have social games planned and booked through Robbie Robertson programmed to 19 Jun 2020. These are not WANGS days they are an opportunity to get out and exercise, to be clear , they are not a WANGs competition. They are an opportunity for each individual to make their own judgement call and decide if attending they will be able to apply the correct rules in completing exercise whilst still being cognisant of social distancing and the individual club requirements / rules. Current Advice At this stage WANGS remains suspended in line with the advice provided as of 25 March 2020 . As the situation (Covid 19) continues to evolve and appears to have now started to settle, your committee is monitoring and shall convene a committee meeting next week in order to determine the options available to as soon as it is practical and in line with the current regulations to allow the restart of WANGS. Look ahead - Depending upon the committee meeting next week. The committee shall determine if we are able to restart WANGS schedule for 2020. Committee meeting will determine and implement the best option for the club in order to restart at first opportunity, the outcome of the meeting shall be advised to all after the meeting. Semi-Retirement has served him well, especially with his golf, being a former Bradman Winner, showed his improvement Fr...iday, when he came out to try and win his own Monthly Medal, to just fall short. Thanks for all your hard work over the years Dave, keep up the good golf. The situation is developing daily and continually changing. I have consulted with a number of you, in regard to future of WANGS schedule for 2020.... 05.01.2022 Open Day Rockingham Golf Club Friday 6/12/19 Another great Open Day, held in very hot conditions, with a total of 100 dedicated players. Congratulations to Mitchel Spencer on winning the WANGS Open day, as you will see a very proud young man holding aloft the Open Day Trophy. I havent got all the results but there was some very good scores winding up our last main game for the year. Congratulations to all the work from our committee on a well run event.... 05.01.2022 Wangs game Friday 21/2/20, stableford, Marri Park golf Course. Warm day Course in good order, 37 starters with about 30 shocked golfers after the slope adjustment to their GA handicaps. With the advent of the new handicap system being seen in a whole new light after some players losing as much as 3-4 strokes from their Wangs handicaps. Well we all need to adjust as playing off the whites at some courses which have low scratch ratings and that will cause large changes in handi...caps. 01.01.2022 WANGS Results Pinjarra Golf Club 4/09/20 Stableford 52 Starters. Another great turn out for Wangs, 52 Starters is just showing how well Wangs is going. Overcast day, but much to Steve Hazells delight no Rain. Some great scores coming in, as we head towards our Club Championships in October/November 2020. Mark The Handicapper, will be adjusting a few handicaps after some solid games.... So our winner this week, Frank Hopper, with a big return to form, known as the Yo-yo due to his big swings in form year in year out. Congratulations Frank with a nice 42 Points, followed by Ian Briggs 41 Points, Gary Bothell 40 Points, Mick Warren 38 Points and Mal Kent 37 Points.
