25.01.2022 As we are all aware the information regarding COVID 19 is changing rapidly. LAVic has provided information in recent days and in a statement sent out to athletes and families today (18 March 2020) the Knox Little Athletics Executive Committee confirmed the following: 1) Championship Day that was scheduled for Saturday 28th March is postponed We will look at trying to run this event later in the year which will be communicated once we get approval from LA Vic. Due to the current restrictions in place due to the COVID19 pandemic the Knox LAC AGM will be held online via Zoom. 22.01.2022 LAVic has provided some further updates this week on the upcoming 2020-21 summer track and field season. At this stage there is still no information on a start date for the season, however it is looking more positive for a definite season start after October 26. 22.01.2022 This a further reminder to all club members that the 2019/20 season Wantirna Little Athletics Club Annual General Meeting and the Presentation Night will be held via Zoom on Sunday 16th August 2020 at 7:00pm. 21.01.2022 Today (Sunday 18th October 2020) the Premier of Victoria announced changes to the Covid 19 restrictions for Melbourne. This included, the easing exercise limitations, extended travel distance, and proposed dates for the resumption of some community sport from the 2 November. Under the Victorian Governments original roadmap for reopening it was hoped that Victorian Premier would announce the return of community sport to Metropolitan Melbourne on Sunday 18th October and that little aths could therefore start as soon as possible. The first Diamond League meeting that will resemble a regular top-flight international one-day meeting since the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic is this Friday 14th August. Eleven reigning world champions from around the globe are converging on Monaco this week for what shapes as the strongest fields for Friday night’s meeting at Stade Louis II, which will have a reduced capacity of 5000 spectators to allow social distancing. 15.01.2022 LAVic on Monday provided the following update to centres regarding . The Victorian State Government has declared a ‘state of disaster’ for the whole of Victoria. The following restrictions will be in place until 11.59pm on Sunday 13th September.: Metropolitan Melbourne & Mitchell Shire: Metropolitan Melbourne moves to Stage 4 restrictions; Mitchell Shire remains on Stage 3 restrictions. 15.01.2022 Knox LAC have advised tha Knox City Council have closed the athletic track to all users. The Board of Management have changed the locks on the gates and have also locked the turnstile at the northern end. If you have been using the track to keep up your fitness or just have walk around the track there is no longer any access to the track until further notice. 14.01.2022 As most our families will all be aware, Little Athletics Victoria has made the decision to cancel the rest of the track and field season. LAVic has provided the following advice: This email is in preparation for registration portal opening for Centres shortly and doesn't necessarily mean your Centre is currently able to take registrations. We are in continual communication with the State Government with regards to the protocols required by Centres and are working towards getting as many Centres 'live' as soon as possible. 12.01.2022 The Victorian State Government recently announced a further easing of COVID-19 restrictions from the 22nd June, which allows for the resumption of children’s sporting competition. LAVic is currently waiting on further detailed advice from Sport & Recreation Victoria on this. LAVic has announced that the 2020 State Cross-Country Championships will be now be held on Saturday 22nd August at Lake Dewar Lodge, Myrniong. 12.01.2022 LA Vic have provided the following update following the State Government Announcement that to re-impose stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions on all local government areas within metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire. The restrictions take effect from midnight 8th July and will remain in place for a period of 6 weeks. Regrettably, community sport will be banned for impacted communities. This means athletes residing in the locked down areas will not be able to participate in Little Athletics activities during this time, and Centres located in locked down areas will not be authorised to conduct Little Athletics activities. 08.01.2022 For those looking for some international athletic news , the Bislett Impossible Games took place in Oslo on 11 June 2020 . Some of track and field's biggest global stars took part in the Impossible Games in Oslo in the first live athletics meeting of the summer. Highlights on the programme included 400m hurdles world champion Karsten Warholm attempt at a world record over 300m hurdles, and a virtual pole vault showdown between world record holder Mondo Duplantis and Diamond League record champion Renaud Lavillenie. With recent announcements by the Victorian Government and the easing of restrictions, I have had a number of enquiries last week and over the weekend as to the use of the athletics track at Knox for training.
