03.01.2022 Artist Appreciation Post | Warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers please note this post contains artworks and the name of a deceased Aboriginal person. . Today we celebrate the life and art of the formidable Mrs Carol Golding (Dec). . Carol Maanyatja Golding was born at Walu rockhole, in between Warakurna and Papulankutja in the east Gibson desert, Western Australia. As a young child she walked the tali (sandhill) country between her Father's country in the so...uth near Papulankutja and her Mother's country near Warakurna. Carol and her husband and their children eventually settled in her Mother's country, Warakurna. Previously Carol had painted with the Warburton Arts Project but began painting with Warakurna Artists in mid 2005 and rapidly became one of the art centre's leading senior artists for her ethereal and dynamic depictions of Tjukurrpa. Carol's work predominantly deals with an important Ngaanyatjarra story from her birthing place Walu. Mrs Golding passed away in 2016 but her legacy lives on and remains strong through her family and her vibrant cultural maintenance work. We love you, Mrs G Posted with permission. . Images: 1 'Walu, Tjukurla Pirni and Tjarral Kali Pirti'; 2+3 'Walu'. . Warakurna Artists is a 100% Aboriginal owned and governed art centre located in Warakurna Community, 330kms west of Uluru, on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands in Western Australia. The Art Centre supports artists in the communities of Warakurna, Wanarn and Patjarr providing vital cultural maintenance and art programs to ensure that artists can continue to practice culture and receive an income whilst remaining on country.
