24.01.2022 The final day of our November Show and it's a gorgeous Sunday morning here at S.I.E.C. and the action in Ring 1 is as hot as the weather !! We started the day with the Keenden Contracting Open 1.30m - 1.35m class and we give a really big thanks to Nathan Wood and Luke Brown for once again being awesome sponsors and supporters of our show. And it's wonderful to welcome David Cameron back to the winners circle with a fabulous double clear round in a jump off time off time of 5...0.25 seconds on board 'Benson Femme Fatale' followed by Amber Fuller and 'Nopal Van Tallaert' also double clear in a time of 51.140 secs with our third double clear combination Kate Hinschen on board 'Oaks Ventriloquist' claiming third place in a time of 55.13 secs. Jamie Priestley had a rail at the last and completed the jump-off course in 50.560 secs to be the fastest of our four faulters for fourth place and completing the top five, Amber on her second nomination 'Sirius Du Granit' with a rail in the jump-off and a time of 50.81 secs. 23.01.2022 The Agnes Banks Equine Clinic 1.30m - 1.35m class was the last chance for our Young Riders to notch up a win in their own class at the Show this weekend. And they were all keen. Lucy Locke has been a dominant force in the Young Rider events at this show and our last show but that didn't carry through today in the AM5 classes with Lucy taking a slightly different track than the one layed out by Michael Haese and as a result she didn't get to come back and contest the jump off.... But five outstanding Young Rider combinations did and it was an exciting jump off with two going double clear in a real tussle for the honours. Fourth out combination Lucie Aldridge and 'Ollie Olae' stopped the clock at 49.92 seconds and they then had to wait to see if the remaining pair could better their time and stay clear. Clemency Hughes has had a great Show and on board 'Diamond B Corvina' in this jump-off they got the clear bit done, n fact never looked like touching a rail but the time set to chase down by Lucie proved to be a bridge too far and Clemency had to settle for second in a time of 52.50 secs. Third place went to Anneliese Wansey with 'Kolora Stud St Patrick' under the saddle with a rail in the jump-off in a time of 53.670 , fourth spot was filled by Clay Simmonds and 'Hillbreeze Chacco De Lux' also just having one rail in the jump-off in a time of 55.40 secs and Isabella completed the top five knocking a couple in the jump-off and finishing in a time of 55.370 secs. Fabulous riding all weekend Riders, thanks for some wonderful competition to watch. Photos and words Stephen Mowbray See more

21.01.2022 The Caliera Performance Horses Junior 1.20m Super Two Phase was the second class of the day in Ring 1 and featured 20 outstanding Junior Rider combinations all hoping to add the title to their resume. And once again it was young Lucy Locke and 'Diamont' who finished at the top of the class whizzing around the course in a time of 33.830 secs, a time that was faster than any of the Open riders in the previous class and also faster than any of her peers. Clemency Hughes and 'N...icolette' secured second place with a fast 36.830 sec clear round to be just ahead of third placed Lara Christoffelsz on board 'Bellhaven Catatani' who stopped the clock in a time of 42.760 secs. In fourth place, the pairing of Aria Baker and 'That's Limo' after they went clear in a time of 39.110 secs and completing the top five, Jack Haynes and 'She's A Diva' with a time of 39.570 secs beside their names. 19.01.2022 Well we tried! Unfortunately today, the NSW Government announced restrictions on Community Sport. E NSW and the OC support the NSW Government’s efforts and battle to halt the spread of Coronavirus- and to this end Waratah Training & Pop Up Competition will not go ahead. Thanks to all who entered, an email will be sent tomorrow regarding refunds. Regards to all Edwena

19.01.2022 Good morning to all - and a bit of positive news on the competition front! Waratah SJ will - provided the community sport restrictions are lifted - host a 3 day competition at SIEC on the Hack arena from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October. Only 2 arenas - and we will be starting at 80cm and finishing at 1.40m . Waratah SJ also has planned another show in November - 13-15th which will also be run on the Hack arena - and will be run under very similar lines to the October show. ...A small amount of prize money will be offered ($15 000) - and sponsors will be given an early entry code - so if there's anyone out there whom I've not yet asked to sponsor - would love to hear from you! With thanks to the 40+people who have already committed to sponsoring the October show. Let's just hope that we are actually allowed to proceed this time. Edwena Mitchell - 0419 64 2053 or [email protected]

18.01.2022 A big thank you to Chris and Gabi Chugg at Chuggy Equestrian - Chris Chugg for sponsoring this morning's Open 1.30m class, a class that Gabi competed in on her beautiful mare 'Queenie'. Thanks so much for your support of our show once again, it's really appreciated and thanks for being on hand Chuggy to present the prizes to our winners, one of which was of course your wife !! But for Gabi it wasn't first prize this time, that honour went to Isobel Guiness and 'Copabella Ver...di' who jumped clear and fast stopping the clock in a time of 31.70 secs to take top spot ahead of Kate Hinschen on board 'Eye Catcher' who also went clear in a time of 32.770 secs with Gabi and 'Queenine' filling third place in a time of 36.290 secs. Jamie Kermond went clear on another Copabella horse, 'Copabella Camouflage' in a time of 37.220 secs to place fourth in the class just ahead of fifth placed Coco Miles on board 'Sapphire Seven' who went clear in a time of 40.620 secs and completing the podium, Michelle Robson put some finishing touches to the Wallaby Hill 3DE preparation for her wonderful gelding 'Eastern Star Capone' who also jumed clear stopping the clock in 41.690 secs. 18.01.2022 Pulling the pin ..... Good morning to you all - and I have hateful news - I am pulling the pin on Waratah SJ for 2020. I just cannot see a way to putting on a competition worthy of the Waratah name - so we will rest for this year. I will however try my very best to put a Training Weekend on - Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 August - but this will depend on costs and hotspots and travel restrictions - and the state of the State in 5 weeks time. Such a year - but I am grateful that most of us (the showjumping community) have managed to avoid the Corona Virus - and I hope that we continue to do so. Regards to you all - Edwena Mitchell aka The OC

17.01.2022 Tahli Hendler and 'Black Currency' are a relatively new combination and it seems they are definitely getting on great and heading in the right direction under the careful eye of Jess and Rhys at J and R Equestrian. There was plenty of air time over the colourful ballon jump in the H R Forestry Open 1.20m - 1.25m class this afternoon but the next jump was the water. Let's just say, the ballon jump was easily cleared, but given the clearance at the water jump Tahli was calling back to camp for oxygen !! Congratulations on a great Show, there's much to look forward too for sure. Photo and words Stephen Mowbray

13.01.2022 Thanks to all who are coming tomorrow!! Just to remind you, 8.30am start with 80cm, 90cm should start around 9am. A couple of things, everyone is to help where possible as there is NO ring crew. Also, there is no coffee van nor food at SIEC (my fault) so please bring your lunch etc. See you all tomorrow

13.01.2022 We have some seriously talented Young Rider combinations going around at the moment. There's not much between them, they've learned their craft over the years, come up through the Junior ranks and at every Young Rider competition we've held it's been impossible to pick the winner in advance, it could easily be any one of them, they are all capable on any given day and on this Saturday morning it was no different ! Today we congratulate and celebrate the winner of the Simmonds... Family Young Rider class and it is (drumroll) .... Clemency Hughes and 'Diamond B Corvina' who jumped clear in a very fast 32.550 secs in the Super Two phase competition, a second and a half faster than second placed serial speedster Annaliese Wansey with 'Kolora Stud St Patrick' under the saddle who stopped the clock in a time of 34.040 secs. Stephanie Judd and 'Gordex B' claimed third place after their clear round in a time of 35.050 secs ahead of fourth placed Milly Fisher and her wonderful 'Laurel Glen Brandy Man', also clear with a time of 35.640 secs beside their names and completing the top 5 in the class, Isabella Du Plessis and 'Monte Carlo MVNZ' with a clear round in a time of 35.690 secs. 06.01.2022 Celebrations are definitely in order for Charlotte Chambers and her crew after a fantastic performance in the 14c Amateur 1.10-1.15cm this evening! Charlotte and her beloved 'Amaretto MVNZ' jumped clear for the super two-phase round, stopping the clock in 36.490 seconds for first place. 'Beetle' or 'Bug' (as he's affectionately known) is already back in his stable with an ice cold brew - his favourite treat after a winning round! Cheers Charlotte and 'Beetle'!... 04.01.2022 Just so you all know ... "We're planning to hold our Event until we are told we can't " "Virtual hugs and kisses" - Edwena Mitchell... Please LIKE, SHARE and follow our page. Like all of you, we are hoping we just might be the first NSW event coming out of COVID-19 restrictions. Until then, keep safe, social distance, wash your hands, love and be kind to your ponies and each other and just maybe, really soon, we can all be together again

04.01.2022 A request from one of Waratah's long term supporters - Camden Equine Clinic. They are asking for horse owners to fill out a survey about colic surgery. If any of our fb friends could help out Camden Equine Clinic - we would all be appreciative - as they do great work and have saved many a horse with colic. Have you ever had to decide to refer a horse for colic surgery? Have you ever thought about what you would do if you had to make that choice at short notice? Staff at the... Camden Equine Centre, University of Sydney are conducting a survey into owner knowledge and attitudes toward colic surgery. They are investigating if there are trends between the owner demographics and previous experience with colic, and whether owners elect to send horses for emergency surgery. Please take a few minutes to do this survey on the decision for or against colic surgery. The information you provide may help future veterinarians better understand how they can support horse owners whilst they make this difficult decision. This results from the survey will hopefully allow for better insights into the horse owners’ understanding of outcomes of colic surgery and lead to the development of better information resources for owners. The survey consists of about 20 questions and should only take about 20 minutes of your time. To complete the survey and to learn about a project, please go to: https://redcap.sydney.edu.au/surveys/?s=C8CMC4MXXL

04.01.2022 For Team McDermott it's been another successful campaign weekend as Tom jockeyed his two nominations in the Tripp Family Grand Prix for a quinella finish taking out top honours on board Tess McInerney's 'Warraleigh Park Cortez', the only combination to go double clear over the impressive and challenging Michael Haese track in a jump off time of 50.62 secs. Yesterday, Tom won the 1.40m class on board Rory Hovell's 'Yalambi's Finnigan' and today they placed second after taking... a late rail in the jump off but they were still the fastest of the four faulters claiming second place in a time of 47.53 secs. James Arkins carried four into the jump-off then went clear in a time of 48.86 sec to secure third place ahead of Jamie Kermond on board 'Galliano MS' also carrying four and going clear in the jump-off in 49.17 secs to finish in fourth place. Kate Hinschen and 'Finch Farm Cadel' went clear in the jump-off to finish on four in a time of 49.56 secs and completing our top 6 in the class, Izabella Stone and 'Lincoln MVNZ' clear in the jump-off in a time of 55.13 secs to claim the final rosette and prize money on offer. A big, big thank you to Simon and Brenda and Jess Tripp for their incredible support and sponsorship and thank you so much once again for all that you do for our Show and our sport. 02.01.2022 Well - the best laid plans come adrift.... and so do ours!. With the max number unlikely to be lifted beyond 500 in time for Waratah - we've had to make some changes - and quite substantial ones too. Waratah will be split into two shows - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the original Ring 1 and a combination of Rings 2 & 3. Ring 3 and Juniors, YR's & Amis will have their chance on Saturday and Sunday (29 & 30 August). No rider will be allowed to ride at both. Some other ...arrangements will also be implimented: No Interstate riders Stabling and Camping only for Country riders or those who live over an hour from SIEC Riders, grooms and a driver or parent will be the only people allowed on site We will forgo our lovely Young Horse Day - but incorporate those classes into the mid-week program. Details and schedule are still being worked on - but Waratah does not wish to be cancelled. Thanks to all our wonderful wonderful sponsors who are STILL sticking by Waratah Showjumping. See more
