16.01.2022 I am super impressed with the persuasive writing that Purple class have been working on this week. Each student has improved their writing by ensuring the agreed success criteria were present (the What I’m Looking For, or WILF). Students then peer reviewed each other’s writing, giving constructive feedback and encouragement. As for the topic, well, I’m just about convinced...

15.01.2022 **SOCIAL MEDIA WARNING *** The e-Safety Commissioner has put out a warning to all parents and carers to keep your children offline today or limit access. We have been advised that there is a suicide streaming on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok today. The clip is extremely graphic and has yet to be moderated.... We strongly recommend keeping your children offline today if possible, and heavily supervise all social media interactions until this content is removed. We are also receiving reports that trolls are using videos of puppies and kittens to lure kids into seeing the video. It is also being inserted into videos of kittens on Tik Tok. **Please DO NOT ask your kids if they have seen it as they may go looking for it. If your children come to you saying that they have viewed it, we have the following advice: * Stay calm, don’t overreact. * Contact the social media platform(s) to report the video (they are all trying hard to contain it as we speak). * Applaud them for having the courage to start this conversation with you and let them talk about what they have seen. It’s not a good idea to watch the video yourself or ask your child/the student to show you the video, no matter how curious you are. The video is horrific; you can’t unsee it. * Some other questions you can ask them are: * Sometimes people feel very down, sad, or hopeless. What can we do to let people know that they aren’t alone and that we care? * Who can you talk to if you feel sad or hopeless? * What can you do if you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable? We would strongly advise parents/ guardians to keep their children off social media for the next few days. The eSafety commissioner is encouraging people who encounter this content to report it to the social media platform they’ve seen it on, or to eSafety at www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content. 07.01.2022 Friends, we have some absolutely thrilling news! Meet Barney, the newest member of our WWPS family! It has been a vision of ours for some time to enhance the wellbeing of our school community with the addition of a companion dog. Research confirms the many benefits a dog can bring to a school environment.... Barney is a Tamaruke puppy. The Tamaruke is a unique breed of dog which has been professionally, selectively and lovingly developed for suitability as a companion pet and therapy dog. The Tamaruke’s friendly temperament and natural intelligence make them ideal family, therapy and assistance dogs. We are incredibly grateful to Charlotte and her team at https://tamaruke.com/. Their generosity in donating Barney, and supporting us with training and other necessities, is just amazing. Barney will live with our lovely Mrs Nightingale, and gradually be introduced to the school environment as he grows and is appropriately trained. As I write, Barney is on his way here with Ms Chapman and Mrs Nightingale for a surprise classroom visit- won’t the children be excited! This will be their first introduction to our beautiful Barney!
