23.01.2022 Tasmania Police is urging all road users to take road safety seriously as they travel across the state these school holidays. We know our roads are going to be ...busy as people make the most of the school term break and set off to holiday at home over the next two weeks. While high-risk behaviours like speeding and drink or drug driving are extremely dangerous and selfish, on longer road trips, simple things like being distracted and fatigued can also have devastating results. In the interest of public safety, police will be continuing to enforce our road rules in both high- visibility and unmarked patrols across Tasmania throughout the school holidays. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we need Tasmanians to take it seriously.
22.01.2022 If you're in the Zeehan area, please be aware that if weather conditions allow, Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn fr...om tomorrow (Friday 18 September). This is part of the state-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities. The burn area is approximately 150 hectares and will take 1-2 days to complete. Smoke may be present in the area for a couple of days after the burn is complete. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health and Asthma Australia websites: www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth/air/precautions https://asthma.org.au/about-asthma/triggers/bushfire-smoke. For air quality information visit: https://epa.tas.gov.au//real-time-air-quality-data-for-tas Further information about this burn is available by contacting the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service on (03) 6464 3008. 21.01.2022 Do you understand what bushfire fire danger ratings mean? The Bureau and emergency services use six fire danger ratings to communicate the level of bushfire ri...sk. These ratings help the community know when to put their bushfire survival plan into action. These ratings are: LowModerate, High, Very High, Severe, Extreme and Catastrophic (or Code Red in Victoria). The higher the rating, the more dangerous the conditions are likely to be, and at higher ratings any fire that starts will likely be fast-moving and difficult to control. The Bureau issues fire weather warnings when forecast weather conditions are likely to be dangerous. We work closely with emergency services around the country to keep the community informed. No matter what the forecast fire rating, if you live in or are travelling to an area that could be threatened by fire, you need to have a bushfire plan in place, so you know what to do if a bushfire starts. Know your weather. Know your risk. Learn more: http://ow.ly/43DB50CyMzR

12.01.2022 Good morning all. Been pretty normal going with the brigade for the last month or so, but on Monday night Apex Deloraine presented us with a high quality therma...l imaging camera. This will be a very important bit of gear and used for a wide range of fires, but most importantly when we are called to house fires we can use it to search for trapped people in the smoke and detect high temp areas making it safer for our crews inside the fire. We are very grateful to get this sort of equipment and support from our community. Stay safe and remember to change your smoke alarm battery’s this weekend. See more

01.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our long serving members. Kerry " swipes" Shearing. Kerry was a member of the Richmond brigade for ov...er 30 years and was always ready to help new members and give advice when needed. Kerry could always be found in the hottest part of the fire to extinguish it. His 4wd skills were legendary. He will sorely be missed this fire season. Both his sons are members of the brigade so his firefighting legacy will live on. The brigade wish to offer our condolences to Debbie, Anthony, Brady and their families. "She'll be right, see you Thursday!" R.I.P Swipes. Gone but not forgotten.
01.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.
