25.01.2022 If you are considering coming to Waratah to camp over the weekend of the carnival there is room in the caravan park or a cross the road at the Woodchopping venue on the lake as the pub is booked out but there B&Bs in town. The Waratah Roadhouse has take away or eat in plus fuel and a good selection of groceries, the MUSHroom cafe has great coffee and cake and light meals, the Bischoff hotel on Friday night has pizzas and wings, dine in or take away plus a extensive selection of beverages and Saturday will have counter meals lunch and dinner with blues from popular local band Gnarly Burl and on Sunday dont forget to check out the historic Woodchopping display at the St. James church gallery and history centre and also check out the local museum
24.01.2022 Another great reason to stay overnight in Waratah after the chopping carnival is that on the next day, 10th there will be a market at the Alma Fagan Hall run by the Waratah Mens Shed for more information or to book a place for a stall contact Peter Hawthorn on 0419568090"

22.01.2022 What a venue for a carnival, as usual Noel Fagan and Mick Dodd have the place looking postcard perfect forecast is for 23 degrees, just perfect for watching the action and having a cold one.
20.01.2022 Latest attraction for the carnival is the Wayfarers of Midgard a Viking re-enactment group who will be setting up camp for the weekend complete with blacksmith and demonstrations of axe throwing and sword and axe combat, now thats something you dont see everyday and another first for Waratah

19.01.2022 Due to the fires about at the moment and we have had a couple up here at Waratah so in recognition of the great job our firies and emergency services personnel do we have made the wood chops on Saturday free entry for them, children are always free. I know it is not a lot but hey a bit of recognition for what they are doing has got to help just turn up at the gate on Saturday and tell us no need for ID we trust you with our lives,
18.01.2022 Just a quick wake up call for you on our chopping carnival for next year on February 8th. Come along and see the states best axemen in action plus vintage machinery, historic carriages plus more, stay over either in accommodation or camp and get up to the Bischoff hotel and enjoy the cool sounds of Gnarly Burl. 16.01.2022 Couldnt do it without these people, our major sponsors thanks Josh, Jenny, Joe and Cheryl
15.01.2022 This will be the last post for the time being but keep a check as we have some more things happening as the year goes on, we will be partnering with the Friends of the Waratah reservoir for a rally shortly to help save our historic waterways and perhaps a bush dance in winter. I hope that you have been kept up to date with the chopping carnival and some insights into the history of this great event and some of the families that have been associated with this like the Fagans. ...Thank you for your support this year and although we made a small loss due to the weather the town was the big winner with people camping, staying in accommodation and spending at local businesses and one of our sponsors Flex Realty even had phone calls from people visiting on Saturday so its a win, win for everybody. One of the ideas for next year is a street party on the Saturday night just like the old back to Waratah days. The photo is of myself and my long suffering wife president and secretary /treasurer respectively. See more
14.01.2022 Bring your pride and joy, be it car or bike down to the carnival and you could be going home a little bit richer at our show and shine
14.01.2022 Well everyone Waratah chopping carnival is over for another year, everything has been cleared up and packed away with just the cooler trailer to be returned to Burnie today. Certificate of appreciation will be delivered today to our sponsors, nothing like thanking them personally. I think our little town shone very brightly on Saturday and the benefit to our town with the pub booked out for days leading up to the carnival, all B&Bs booked out, the caravan park totally overflo...wing is great to see. All the local businesses have said they have been flat out so the benefits have been shared by many. The axemen and sawyers and axewomen were world class, commontary by the great David Foster was tremendous, the display by the vintage machinery club was superb with the old machines ticking over in the background providing the soundtrack for the day, stall holders added to the festive feel and the Vikings added that little extra and thank you to the crowd who turned up you witnessed Waratah at its best you became involved and showed your appreciation of each event. There will be a few more posts coming up for final results of events etc See more

06.01.2022 Out again today visiting sponsors for our carnival who without their much appreciated help small towns like us would struggle to keep our heritage alive. A full list will be posted shortly recognising their contribution.
05.01.2022 The Waratah Woodchopping Carnival is on 9th February 2019 and will feature a full program involving some of Tassie s best axemen. Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting some of the attractions that will be on offer for your enjoyment and if you have any questions about us please contact us.
05.01.2022 If you get hungry on Saturday Sue, Julie, Lynn and Judy will be cooking up a storm on the baby with country style burgers and snags with the trimmings over 200 years experience between them, plus fresh coffee and tea and then perhaps treat yourself to a bowl of freshly picked local raspberries and cream from Dale Hites Berry stall
04.01.2022 A bit of Waratah history, this plaque was once attached to the pavilion housing a bar, undercover viewing area and a kitchen built with money raised by the Waratah Axemens Club and matched dollar for dollar by the then Waratah council then a few years ago the Waratah Wynyard Council decided that they no longer needed this as an asset so smashed it down with an excavator and trucked it to the tip without any consultation with the community which adds $650 a year to the cost ...of the carnival. This plaque honours Joe Fagan senior for his service to the community and the Fagan family is synonymous with Woodchopping in the Waratah area and have always sponsored and offered in kind assistance such as the loader and truck on the day so a big thank you to Joe snr., Joe and Josh and families for keeping this carnival going, Joe was presented with life membership last year in appreciation of his achievements. So the plaque is back overlooking the arena. See more

03.01.2022 While at the chops on Saturday have a chat to Wally and Karen Dick of Tarkine quad and side-by-side adventures on their trips around the area,at their display, great people offering something unique and also catch up with Paul and Linda Ledger of Tarkine Magnet Tours which I highly recommend about his tours of the old mining town of Magnet, both having recently been featured on All for Adventure TV show.
02.01.2022 In keeping with tradition entry into the carnival is by gold coin donation to keep it family friendly, the ladies will be cooking burgers and snags with scones on offer , there is a licensed undercover wet area serving cold beer and wine at bar rates, a coffee van and and fairy floss for the young or young at heart
