22.01.2022 It's with a heavy heart that we are announcing this today. The Temora Aviation Museum management team has been closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situati...on and its potential effects on Warbirds Downunder, which was rescheduled for 6 & 7 March 2021. After reviewing all information, it has become clear that the existing COVID-19 restriction of 500 visitors on site makes holding a major event extremely challenging. As a result, the decision has been made to cancel Warbirds Downunder. Existing ticket holders will be automatically issued a full refund, which will be facilitated by ticketing partner, Ticketmaster. In lieu of Warbirds Downunder, the Museum will be hosting a different event on the weekend of 6 & 7 March 2021, with existing ticket holders being given first right to these tickets. The event may have as many aircraft as our previous Warbird events, including a considerable contribution by the RAAF in their 100th year. More information on the revised event will be sent in the coming weeks. 14.01.2022 We lost a true legend, war hero, test pilot, aerobatic master, and a friend to all who fly. October 24th 2016; Robert A. "Bob" Hoover flew west, leaving the wo...rld a lesser place. Known as the "pilot's pilot", and accepted by many to be one of the greatest pilots ever to have lived. Godspeed Bob, and thanks from all of us, for everything... I hope there's a place, way up in the sky Where pilots can go when they have to die. A place where a guy could buy a cold beer For a friend and a comrade whose memory is dear. A place where no doctor or lawyer could tread, Nor a management-type would e'ler be caught dead! Just a quaint little place, kind of dark, full of smoke, Where they like to sing loud, and love a good joke. The kind of a place that a lady could go And feel safe and secure by the men she would know. There must be a place where old pilots go, When their wings become heavy, when their airspeed gets low, Where the whiskey is old, and the women are young, And songs about flying and dying are sung. Where you'd see all the fellows who'd 'flown west' before, And they'd call out your name, as you came through the door, Who would buy you a drink, if your thirst should be bad, And relate to the others, "He was quite a good lad!" And there, through the mist, you'd spot an old guy You had not seen in years, though he'd taught you to fly. He'd nod his old head, and grin ear to ear And say, "Welcome, my Son, I'm proud that you're here! For this is the place where true flyers come When the battles are over, and the wars have been won. They've come here at last, to be safe and alone, >From the government clerk, and the management clone; Politicians and lawyers, the Feds, and the noise, Where all hours are happy, and these good ol' boys Can relax with a cool one, and a well deserved rest! This is Heaven, my Son. You've passed your last test!" www.Sierrahotel.net

13.01.2022 The last version of the AH-1 Huey Cobra series was the AH-1F model pictured here. The flat-plate canopy appeared on new-built AH-1S units beginning in 1977. The... three-barrel 20mm M 197 cannon in the chin turret appeared with the AH-1E model starting in 1988 and on all subsequent models. An external spotting feature of the AH-1F is the air data sensor mounted on the upper right side of the canopy apparently removed from this particular helicopter. Another external spotting feature of the ‘F’ model Huey Cobra was the large black blister at the front of the rotor transmission unit for a laser tracking system that was never fitted. See more

09.01.2022 The air is an extremely dangerous, jealous and exacting mistress. Once under the spell most lovers are faithful to the end, which is not always old age. Even th...ose masters and princes of aerial fighting, the survivors of fifty mortal duels in the high air who have come scatheless through the War and all its perils, have returned again and again to their love and perished too often in some ordinary commonplace flight undertaken for pure amusement. 07.01.2022 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX MH603 has had an engine run at Scone, NSW Australia. Some history of MH603 from the Vintage Fighter Restorations website. This Spitf...ire, with construction number CBAF.IX.5589, was built in 1943 at Castle Bromwich UK. The aircraft, now RAF serialed MH603 was delivered to 39 Maintenance Unit (MU) on 15-10-43. The aircraft commenced operational service with 331(Norwegian) Squadron on 3/1/44 and served operationally coded FN-B, flown by Capt. Bjorn Bjornstad, then moved to 274 Squadron RAF coded as ‘JJ-K’ on 2-6-44 where it was flown by W/O.S.G.Barker . The Spitfire is noted as going to Fighter Leaders School FLS Millfield on 21/8/44 and then to the Central Fighter Establishment (CFE) Tangmere on 1/6/45. Post war, in 1949, the aircraft was sold to the South African Air Force and following retirement in 1955 passed on to South African Metal & Machinery Co, Salt River, Cape Town as scrap until the remains were recovered by the South African Air Force museum and stored at Snake Valley. In 1989 the aircraft was recorded back in the UK with Steve Atkins of Rye, Sussex, and then with John Sykes, Oxford, UK. In 1993 the Spitfire is reported as being in the USA with Joe Scogna/ Vintage Air, Yardley PA. From 1993 until 2008 the aircraft was a project at Fort Collins CO and in 2008 it was acquired by Provenance Fighter Sales and sold to Pay’s in 2009.
