20.01.2022 A number of our adventures spend at least some of the time on the stunning O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail. It’s truly amazing for a number of reasons...the flora and fauna to name 2. But the history is also a compelling echo as you walk the trail. The channel to the right of this pic is the Aqueduct - a channel which carried water from the Upper Yarra into Melbourne (prior to using underground pipes). This channel was dug BY HAND between 1911 and 1914 and then operated for de...cades after. The very fact that the Aqueduct was dug led to the maintenance path alongside it... which you now get to ride and hike along as Mother Nature quietly reclaims the space. Make no mistake... it is glorious

Your self-guided ride will begin on the lesser known hero of Warburton Trails, O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail. This amazing trail is cut into the mountain above Warburton. Ride through towering forests that have been protected for over a century, abuzz with abundant flora and fauna - towering trees, stunning ferns and babbling water courses. Upon reaching the Dee Rd Picnic Ground you can enjoy the stunning valley views. As you continue riding along the trail you can enjoy more of the stunning landscape. At Don Valley Road you will ride down off the mountain and join the Warburton Rail Trail, along which you will ride back to Warburton. The Rail Trail provides a completely different riding experience meandering through lush farmland as you head back towards town, concluding at the Warburton Basecamp. We drop you off at the launch location of the Mt Donna Buang ascent. It’s normally a 9 hour return hike. BUT...... +/- 4 hours later you will reach the 1250m summit. We will then meet you at the summit in our Adventure Bus and transport you back down the mountain to town. The glory and the story is in the climb. (the business we have set up to overcome adventure logistics challenges our motel guests have shared with us over years ) ****************************************** AQUEDUCT TO CALIFORNIA REDWOODS (BIKE OR HIKE) This amazing trail is cut into the mountain leading away from Warburton township. You will bike or hike 7km until you reach Cement Creek Rd. There are panoramic mountain and valley views, impressive walls of ferns that will stop you in your tracks with amazement, as well as the amazing flora and fauna that adorns the whole trail. You will then travel 650m down Cement Creek Rd crossing gorgeous waterways and within minutes you’ll reach the California Redwood Forest. There are 1476 Redwood Trees (to be precise) and the forest is enchanting, as is Cement Creek running behind it. The trees are planted in perfect symmetry making for a surreal experience and Instagram fodder. This adventure is hands down better mid-week. On Weekends you’ll share the Redwood Forest with thousands of others although you can look at them smugly knowing that you have been an intrepid adventurer to get there. Mid-week you can often be alone and therefore it’s completely worth taking days off from work. Riders: You will then ride back the way you came - all the views are totally different in reverse, or come back via the road and rive. Hikers: Weekdays you will be collected at the forest but on weekends you will walk 10 minutes to be collected at Woods Point Road.
