21.01.2022 Mens Golf Report: Stroke versus par Cool conditions did not deter 22 golfers on Sunday to play in a stroke versus par event and generally the scoring was very good, so good in fact that 3 teams finished on the same score and a countback was required, Len Turner and Matt Williams were the first team through on plus 7, then Dave Smith and Wade Turner on the same score were the runner ups, Mark Smith and Tom Kilner had to settle for the first of the run down balls. Then Matt Wil...liams who played as a swinger again featured with Alan Austin on plus 6 and then Richard Gray and Justin Moxey on plus 4 took the last of the balls, Lionel Cleal and Bill Reardon were consoled with the mystery draw. Players are reminded that social distancing rules still apply and we are happy that everyone is respecting this responsibility, speaking of social distancing, could all carts be socially distanced from the greens, the course is in great order but carts close to the greens pack the grass down and detract from our course. This Sunday is the RK Smith 27 hole event, the hit off time will be 10 am for this event and there is the possibility of a shotgun start. Happy golfing See more

20.01.2022 Men's Golf Report Good field for stableford 28 players took to the Warialda golf course on Sunday, this is the best field for a standard day’s golf in a very long time and the players were rewarded with absolutely perfect weather for golf after last weekend's dismal days. Allan Austin won the day in A grade with a solidly compiled 35 points, Geoff Hague survived a countback to grab the runner up trophy in that grade, Bill Reardon once again shone in B grade and with 37 points... was the winner, Craig Lockhart had a blinder on the front nine posting 23 points only to fade on the back nine but played right to his handicap with 36 points to be the B grade runner up. David Coulton was the first of the ball winners on 35 points, followed by Geoff Phillips, Rod Ireland, Dave Smith, Phil O’Keeffe and Rhys Aleckson. Matt Williams was rewarded with the mystery pill after an otherwise unsuccessful day. It was very good to see s couple of visitors on the day and the numbers were bolstered by the Smith clan, Jason, Josh, Aaron and Brodie, also Jack Bennet and Michael Heinrich, thanks for the support gentlemen. This coming Sunday is the Moree Open, Matt Williams is organising the bus so if interested in attending give Matt a call. For those not travelling there will be an individual stableford played in Warialda. See more

17.01.2022 Men's Golf Report Dave Coulton is getting back to the form which saw him play off a single figure handicap. With a blistering 40 points on Sunday he was the clear winner to receive the WesTrac sponsored Individual Stableford prize. The runner-up was Geoff Hague on 38, and the ball run-down went to Tiger Clear with 37, Wade Turner with 36 and Dave Smith on 35, who is also starting to find some form. Warwick Storm made the trip all the way from ‘East Gravesend’ but couldn’t ent...ice any of the other Gravo boys to travel. Nearest the pins were won by Geoff Hague on the third, Wade Turner on the fifth and the ninth green remained elusive all day. The RaboBank sponsored mystery ball went to Lex Roberts. The course is magnificent at the moment after recent rains and the greens are getting back to their best. Next week’s game is the Dave Rose Memorial Inter-town Competition to be played in Bingara. Names are to be given to either of the Smith brothers Dave or Shark. With Warialda having a slight lead and knowing that Bingara are hard to beat on their home track all is set up for a very close finish this year. Another excuse for playing golf is that drinking beer and golfing is just fun. Contributed by Thomas Kilner

15.01.2022 4 MAN GOLF COUNTDOWN On Sunday the annual 4 man countdown was held, 6 teams played and the clear winners were Geoff Phillips, Toby Cooper, Rhys Aleckson and Ben Kennedy with a very handy 97. In second place were Rod Ireland, Wade Turner, Lionel Cleal and last minute recruit Peter Moore who held the side together with 88 points. Next in line were Warwick Storm, Joel Daley, Kurt Daley and Phil O’Keeffe on 87, then Dave Smith, Tom Kilner, Mark Smith and Geoff Hague also on 87. S...teve Power, Matt Williams, Jim Lucas and Craig lockhart followed them and the winners of the coveted Marshmallows were Dave Coulton, John McDonald, Bill Reardon and Gordon Cleal. The pin shots changed hands a few times but were finally won by Warwick Storm on the third, Dave Smith on the fifth and Geoff Phillips on the ninth. Geoff Holmes loved nothing better than a beer and a round of golf with his mates, this Sunday Danni and Steve are hosting Geoff’s Memorial Day with a round of golf which could also possibly involve a beer or two. Non-handicapped players are welcome in the four-person ambrose formatted event which caters for all genders and levels of ability, there will be a 12-noon shotgun start and every team member will win a prize. A special thanks is also extended to Steve and Danni as they supply the sand free of charge for renovating of the greens which is a huge help to our small club. If you are not in a team just turn up on the day and I’m sure you will find yourself in one. Happy golfing. See more
15.01.2022 Men's Golf Report 4 MAN AMBROSE Overnight rain didn’t deter 6 teams participating in the 4 man ambrose conducted on Sunday and the weather held off to provide a pleasant enough day for golf. The winners on the day were Steve and Brendan Power and Charlie Cush and Wade Turner, this was always going to be a formidable team, second place were Greg and Rod Ireland, Len Turner and Kelvin Charters, in third position were Phil O’Keeffe, Joel Daley and Rhys Aleckson.... This coming Sunday is the monthly mug, 18 holes of stroke play on a beautiful golf course, what could be better. See more

10.01.2022 Veteran's Golf Report HOT DAY AND HOT SCORES ON FRIDAY A goodly field showed up in fairly warm conditions last Friday with some hot scores being recorded as well. None were better than Jiver Phillips who, playing off a 13 handicap, returned a score of 32 points and forwent the chook and took the 3 Pink balls for his win. Then we came to the runners-up trophy and this took the form of a countback to decide the recipient as there were three golfers finished on 28 points. A...fter an extensive session of multiplication, division, subtraction and finally addition, the prize went to our elder statesman of the course in Hatchie Williams. Leading in the ball rundown was a new member of the club and a new addition to Gineroi Road in the person of Ian Hampson (welcome to Warialda Ian, Narelle, and Jay), along with Alan Campbell both on 28 points. They were followed by Dave Coulton and Bob Tremain (25 points) with the last ball also requiring a countback after two players returned well calculated scores of 24 points and again Dave had to multiply, divide, subtract and add up to reach a decision and this went went to Cracker Cleal with Pommy O’Brien missing out. The Putting competition ball went the way of Hatchie Williams with 19. Tiger had a quiet day on the course this week. Nearest the Pins went to Lionel Cleal on the 3rd, Tiger Cleal (only decent shot of the day he said) the 5th and Dave Coulton the 9th. This coming Friday (27th) being the last Friday of the month we will be playing a 4BBB Stableford event with a draw for partners so it would be appreciated if players could turn up a little earlier or let us know you are coming, to enable the draw to be done in time for 3:00p.m. tee-off. 07.01.2022 $315,000 UPGRADE LANDED FOR WARIALDA GOLF & BOWLING CLUB I was delighted to announce a $315,000 hole-in-one for the future of Warialda Golf an...d Bowling Club last week, in the form of a State Government grant to modernise the popular local sporting venue and function centre. This funding and project is a huge win for the club and the Warialda community. The club will be refurbished inside and out, providing a safe, family-friendly facility where locals can visit and socialise. During the drought, a lack of memberships and revenue saw a number of clubs, including Warialda Golf and Bowling Club, fall into the rough financially. To help the venue get back on the green, renovations will be undertaken to the existing amenities and improvements made to the commercial kitchen to allow it to better cater for functions and ensure food safety standards are met. Modifications will also allow for the creation of a new board room and additional storage space, while a new playground area for children will give younger patrons a safe place to enjoy themselves. Normally the club relies on volunteer labour to carry out maintenance of the golf course and bowling greens, however this grant will employee 13 local trades people including builders, electricians and painters to get the work done. Congratulations to the club committee and volunteers on securing this funding and a big thanks to Gwydir Shire Council for its support also! 07.01.2022 Men's Golf Report - 'Turners turn out' Wade and Len Turner were clear winners on Sunday when they combined to bat up 45 points, they were slick enough to get in before the rain started and finished up three points clear of their nearest rivals namely Gordon Cleal and the ever young Jim Lucas on 42 points. Mathew Williams and Steve Power also had 42 points but the last couple of holes in the wet meant that they were beaten on a countback, Craig Lockhart and Warwick Storm were ...the last of the ball winners on 41 after surviving a countback from Dave Coulton and Geoff Hague and also John McDonald and Rhys Aleckson on the same score. The pin shots went to Dave Coulton on the third and Wade Turner on the fifth, the ninth was unclaimed. The very deserving team of Dave and Mark Smith won the mystery ball to make up for the soaking they had. This coming Sunday is the monthly stroke event featuring the monthly mug, the rain will ensure the greens bounce back to good conditions after already improving since the renovating. Some very important things coming up, firstly the 21st of October at 6.30 pm is the Warialda Golf and Bowling club annual general meeting, also the men’s golf presentation dinner will be on Saturday the 31st of October, please support this night particularly if you have won something throughout the year or if you just want to support your club and have a good night out, tickets are available at the bar. 06.01.2022 Men's Golf Report VICE CAPTAIN LEADS TEAM TO VICTORY On Sunday the Captain versus Vice Captain golf challenge was played in warm conditions, Captain Shark was absent and inspirational vice-captain John McDonald led his team to a 99 to 110 net stroke victory. Each side consisted of 7 players with the best being Ben Kennedy with a net 63, this also gave Ben the Monthly Mug and the last available space in the monthly mug winners playoff. Ben was also Warialda’s best in Bingara t...he week before, his efforts losing 3 strokes off his handicap. Looks like more stroke deductions are likely. The next best was Rodney Ireland with a very good 74 net/ 75 off the stick. Clem Gordon played solidly and carded a net 68 to be the first of the ball run down recipients, next were Lionel Cleal, Mathew Williams and Dave Smith all on 70. The mystery pill went to Rhys Aleckson. The nearest the pins were won by Wade Turner on the third, Geoff Phillips on the fifth and Troy Gillespie on the ninth. This coming Sunday is an individual stableford, the course is in great order and its good to see Ben Kennedy doing so well being a new player, nice to see Josh Leyton having a bat as well, we need more golfers and all will be made welcome so please bring your mates. 04.01.2022 Veteran's Golf Report FRIDAY THE 13TH NOT UNLUCKY FOR SOME Black Friday proved to be chook Friday for Don Stevenson when he carded a magnificent score of 32 points to grab the frozen fowl for Carmel Ann. Scoring a creditable 28 points Col Cruickshank collected the runners up trophy with the ball rundown going to Tiger Cleal and brother Cracker Cleal both having broken calculators to score 26 points and they were followed by Macca McDonald, Pommy O’Brien and Hatchie Williams... all on 25 points and the last ball was collected by Lex Roberts on 24 points. Tiger Cleal put on a putting display for his co-players by 1 putting 10 of the 12 greens and 2 putting those two to return 14 putts for the round. If memory serves the writer correct Tiger has bettered this effort once before by recording 13 putts. Nearest the Pins went to Donald Stevenson on the 3rd, Col Cruickshank the 5th and Jiver Phillips the 9th. Not getting amongst the trophies but enjoying a birthday beer with the boys after golf was John Winx Hay. Same time next week to do it all again. Dave Coulton See more

03.01.2022 The Golf and Bowls day which has been advertised in the Men’s and Ladies Golf Programmes for this Sunday 11 October has been postponed. Bowlers are travelling to Ashford. Men’s Golf Individual Stableford.
03.01.2022 MEN'S GOLF REPORT RK SMITH 27 HOLE EVENT Once again great weather was provided for a pleasant Sunday of golf, Geoff Smith was a participant as well as the sponsor, Geoff strategically made sure he didn’t win any prizes so the limelight could fall on others. Wade Turner however continued his good form and amassed an excellent score of 58 points to be the R K Smith 27 hole winner for 2020, this prestigious trophy will be presented on our presentation night.... The daily winner was Toby Cooper with a great score of 56, both these players playing below their handicaps and will probably have an appointment with the toe cutter. Mathew Williams however was the runner up on an exact handicap score of 54, still very good golf over 27 holes. 21 golfers took part on the day which is very good for a 27-hole event and the shotgun format worked well and kept the day buzzing along. Please get names in for the fourball match play so a draw can be done this weekend. This coming Sunday there is an 18-hole individual stableford hitting off at 12 noon, on Monday as it is a long weekend there will be an 18 hole 4BBB medley also at noon. See more
03.01.2022 In stifling conditions, with the mercury getting into the forties, an 18-hole Individual Stableford sponsored by Warialda Men’s Golf was played on Sunday. Craig Lockhart’s game matched the weather as he streeted the field with an impressive 37 points. The equal runners-up were Rod Ireland and Billy Reardon (returning from a short spell) on 34 points. The last ball in the run-down went to Geoff Hague on a countback with 31. The nearest the pins were won by Wade Turner on the ...third, Rod Ireland on the fifth and Captain Shark on the ninth. The Rabobank sponsored mystery ball was won by President Matt. Next week’s game in the Mug Winners’ Playoff. This event is sponsored by Dave and Jenny Coulton and the winner receives the prestigious title of ‘Mug of the Year’. The eligible players who have won a mug during the year are Geoff Phillips, Wade Turner, Toby Cooper, Rhys Aleckson, Jason Smith, Lionel Cleal, Richard Gray and Ben Kennedy. All of these players will hit off before the field next Sunday, 6 December. There will be an 18-hole Individual Stroke for the rest of the field. * * * Milo and Stosh are standing on the 18th tee at their Irish Country Club. They are tied for the lead in the Irish Country Club Championship. The 18th hole is a beautiful par four with a deep valley, descending down to a dogleg right. Both players hit long, straight tee shots which disappear down into the valley. When Milo and Stosh descend into the valley they discover their two Titleist # 4 golf balls are right next to each at the bottom in the middle of the fairway. Stosh looks at Milo and says, "We had better get a ruling from a tournament official to straighten this out. This is the Irish Country Club Championships and we don't want to be disqualified for making a mistake and hitting the wrong ball. After all, we are tied for the lead. Soon after, a rules official appears and examines the two # 4 Titleist golf balls. He then looks up at Milo and Stosh and asks, "Which one of you is playing the orange ball? * * * Contributed by Thomas Kilner

02.01.2022 14 VETS BRAVED THE HEAT ON FRIDAY The temperature did not deter 14 hardy vets from lining up for last Friday’s event which was a 4BBB Stableford event. Jiver Phillips continued on his winning way after teaming up with Bob Watters when they recorded 33 points to win the day. Close on their heels was Al Campbell and Mick Irvine with 32 points to pick up the runners-up trophy and then came the ball rundown with Dave Coulton teamed with Wayne Flash Reading and Blunder Lucas tea...med with Winx Hay with both teams returning 28 points. There was not a Putting competition ball this week. Nearest the Pins went to Jiver Phillips on the 3rd, Beetle Reardon (nice to see you back Beetle after your enforced layoff) the 5th and Bob Watters the 9th.
