24.01.2022 Did you know that winter is the highest risk period for residential fires due to the increased use of heating equipment? Heating equipment includes fixed electr...ical and gas powered appliances, an open fire, wood heater and portable electrical heaters or those which use gas or kerosene. Having your heaters checked and in good working condition, together with careful and correct use, will greatly reduce the danger these appliances present. Poorly maintained gas fires could cause deadly carbon monoxide poisoning so there is no greater reason to have your gas heater inspected and serviced to ensure the safety of loved ones. Every household should consider their fire safety practices and examine the potential risks around their home. There are a number of ways people can prepare for winter: Turn off all portable heating and extinguish open fires before leaving home. Ensure heaters are installed, maintained and operated according to manufacturers’ instructions. Always use a fire screen in front of an open fire. Chimneys and flues should be cleaned annually. Keep clothing, wood and other combustibles at least one metre from the fire or heat source. Children must be supervised near all types of heating. Maintain a safe distance between children and heating. For more residential fire safety information visit cfa.vic.gov.au

21.01.2022 Hi everyone! Captain Hans here. I thought I would update you all on the measures we have taken at Warneet-Blind Bight CFA during the COVID-19 pandemic. Firstly, I hope that everyone is well and coping during these unusual times. I would like to assure you all that we are providing fire and incident coverage to Warneet and Blind Bight, and assisting our neighbouring brigades as usual. The Brigades Management Team has made a number of changes to the brigade’s everyday opera...tions. Unfortunately, the Twilight Car Boot Sale has been cancelled. You may also have noticed that the Sunday morning testing has ceased, along with the usual Monday night training. This is to limit exposure and ensure safety for our members and community. The appliances (tanker and ultralight) are been kept in operational condition by the use of a roster system. This means only one person is at the station at a time. If you see us attending a call out in full protective gear (gloves and face masks), please don’t be alarmed. These measures have been taken to comply with directives and to ensure the safety of our crew at all times. We are still here to help our communities. Hans DEKRAKER Capt. Warneet-Blind Bight CFA

13.01.2022 Are you packing up the ute and heading out bush this weekend? Remember these campfire safety rules:... 12.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Ko...ala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is an ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels. Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes #cfavic
