23.01.2022 War on Trial case in the UK- Ploughshares activist found not-guilty.
22.01.2022 Seven Catholic plowshares activists were detained early Thursday morning at the Kings Bay Naval Base St. Mary's Georgia. They entered on Wednesday night April ...4. Calling themselves Kings Bay Plowshares, they went to make real the prophet Isaiah's command: "beat swords into plowshares". The seven chose to act on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Who devoted his life to addressing the triplets of militarism, racism and materialism. In their statement, which they carried with them, the group quoted King, who said: The greatest purveyor of violence in the world (today) is my own government." Carrying hammers and baby bottles of their own blood, the seven attempted to convert weapons of mass destruction. Kings Bay Naval base opened in 1979 as the Navy's Atlantic Ocean Trident port. It is the largest nuclear submarine base in the world. There are six ballistic missile subs and two guided missile subs based at Kings Bay. The activists went to three sites on the base: The administration building, the D5 Missile monument installation and the nuclear weapons storage bunkers. The activists used crime scene tape, hammers and banners reading: The ultimate logic of racism is genocide, Dr. Martin Luther King; The ultimate logic of Trident is omnicide; Nuclear weapons: illegal - immoral. They also brought an indictment charging the U.S. government for crimes against peace. The activists at the nuclear weapons storage bunkers were Elizabeth McAlister,78. Jonah House, Baltimore, Steve Kelly, S. J.,69 Bay Area CA and Carmen Trotta, 55, NY Catholic Worker. The activists at the Administration building were Clare Grady, 59, Ithaca Catholic Worker and .Martha Hennessy, 62, NY Catholic Worker The activists at the Trident D5 monuments were Mark Colville 55, Amistad Catholic Worker New Haven CT and Patrick O'Neill, 61, Fr. 18.01.2022 Five students and a social worker are locked on at The University of Melbourne to demand transparency in contracts with weapons manufacturers such as Lockheed M...artin. Admin staff is unable to enter the Raymond Priestley building as the six have locked themselves on to large barrels painted with #disarmunis accompanied by banners located at the entrances to the building. Tessa Campisi (left) a Geography Student (21) from Melbourne University stated, "I have always believed that universities should be institutions that provide us with the tools to build a cohesive, sustainable society, not agents of our crumbling democracy promoting the annihilation of marginalised peoples." Lucy Turton (right) also a Melbourne University Student (22) studying English and Criminology added, "I'm stopping work today because as both a staff member and student here, I'm horrified that the university that I love is refusing to disclose the details of their secret deals with war criminals and profiting from industries of death" Others involved in the lockout include Holly Porter, Health Student (21), Will Ross, Politics Student (21), Callum Simpson, Science Student (22) and Margaret Pestorius, Social Worker (53). 14.01.2022 A meeting in Canberra with Japanese freelance television producer and filmmaker, Hideharu Watanabe. Next year is the 75th anniversary of the dropping of the bom...b on Hiroshima. ‘Hidie’ pitched a documentary idea to the national Japanese broadcaster NHK to make a film about the US military cover up of the full impact that bomb had on the civilian population of Hiroshima. Both the US Army and a Japanese film crew documented the immediate aftermath of the world’s first atomic bomb explosion which showed in graphic detail how devastating it had been. Both films were confiscated by the US Army and never released to the world. Why the cover up? Could it be the top US military didn’t want the rest of the world or their own American population to see how devastating, how inhumane their actions had been in killing and maiming hundreds of thousands of Japanese, almost all civilians, in one hit? As the world teeters again on the brink of nuclear war and Trump has just given the green light for the nuclear arms race to begin again between the US, Russia and China, Hidie is determined to find that missing footage from Hiroshima so current generations can see what that bomb really did and a united world can be motivated once again to Ban the Bomb forever from the face of the Earth.

05.01.2022 Six people face court this week in Alice Springs with the first trial starting today. The six went to Pine Gap last year to pray and lament for the victims of w...ar and the role the US spy facility plays in providing surveillance and strategic coordinates for drone attacks in the Middle East. They face up to seven years in gaol. This footage is from our latest documentary AMERICA & ME which we will be taking to the US at the end of the month. 02.01.2022 {A letter from Dan, a member of the US Veterans for Peace Board on David Bradbury's latest doco, America & Me.} I wasn't sure I would be able to watch the whole... film because I started just a little after midnight and thought I'd fall asleep but I couldn't stop watching. So much history, much we Viet Nam vets have lived through. Mr. Bradbury covers a lot of history from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Nicaragua, the Central American conflicts, Iraq, Afghanistan to Standing Rock. He covers Ronald Reagan and the Chicago Boys of Milton Friedman's economic philosophy of neoliberal unfettered capitalism (or disaster capitalism) of privatization of everything, to the Military and Prison Industrial complex, to the ever increasing homelessness on the streets of America. The American war in Viet Nam am plays a central role in the film as a fulcrum or hub from which the future rises out of the ashes unlearned, ignoring the blood on our hands, spilling more as we march like fascists across the global killing, raping, torturing or training puppets to do it for us. It is an excellent film, look at me, still up at 2:53 AM writing a favorable critique. The only critical thing missing, like so many good films, is the Viet Nam GI Resistance Movement. I don't think we emphasize it enough, it is important because so government effort has been to erase it and those IVAW Vets who followed suit in efforts to revitalize with VFP the Anti-War and Peace Movement. Still Bradbury's film is an important contribution to waging the truth about America. Screenings of America & Me: 8 March Hobart 16 March Melbourne 29 March Canberra See fb events for details.
