18.01.2022 Today was a special day for families, historians and those who have taken an interest in the story of the life and death of Leah Fouracre. Leah and her father John's headstone at St John's cemetery in Pinjarra has lain on the ground with a crack through the centre of the headstone for a number of years now. It takes someone special to take the initiative and follow through with a project like this. Anne Rossiter was that person. Anne's fascination and interest in the short ...life of Leah Fouracre brought us together today to bless the conserved headstone for Leah and John Fouracre. The process of obtaining all the required approvals, consultation with known family members and stonemason, organising the conservation work and finally arranging the blessing took 10 months. The original headstone could not be re-erected upright, so it was laid and bonded onto a beautiful bed of pink granite, preventing direct contact with the ground below and preserving the integrity of the original headstone. Leah's great nephew Kevin Lyons and great niece Roberta Pearse were present today, with Kevin and Roberta laying a shawl and a gold sovereign on Leah's headstone during the ceremony which was conducted by Rev. James Tabor. The shawl and gold sovereign, amongst other items were identified as belonging to Leah Fouracre when her accused killer Augustin deKitchillan was arrested in Bunbury in possession of these items. Thank you to all who were present today to mark this special ceremony.

09.01.2022 Thanks to a Community Development Grant from the Shire of Waroona and remaining funds from an anonymous donor, the museum has purchased a set of portable display boards which will be used to display photographs and documents at various business locations, the library, community halls and centres within the Shire and at local events. If you would like to have a display at your business or location, get in touch with us.

08.01.2022 Thank you very much to the person who donated their cash for cans refund to the Waroona Historical Society, we don’t know who you are, but we would like to acknowledge your donation. Every dollar contributes to resources for the museum.

06.01.2022 LAKE CLIFTON LIME BURNERS KILN, Lake Clifton, WA I had driven past the little obscure sign to this place many times, but a few weeks ago I had the time, so I de...cided to go looking for the old lime kiln. It has a very interesting history, but not what you would expect! Way back in 1916 John Henry Johnston obtained a Special Lease to extract lime marl (mud) from the bottom of Lake Clifton to make cement, (the grey powder). The kiln was built in 1922 so they could process the lime (mud) at Lake Clifton, instead of transporting it by truck to the Portland Cement Works at Burswood in Perth. It operated for just TWO DAYS before being closed down as the deeper mud was found to be of inferior quality and not suitable for making cement. Scroll through the photos to a couple of the story boards, about how the kiln was built and operated. You will find the kiln on Newnham Rd, just over an hour south of Perth, WA. Take Lake Clifton Road, off Old Coast Road and just follow the signs to this little piece of history hiding amongst the trees.
