23.01.2022 Heres an update on our activities for the next few weeks.... Were in First Step, so any classes or social groups have to be online via zoom. In Second Step, we will continue with online classes and social groups. Our community projects such as making and supplying free masks, loaning out laptops, bathroom use, washing machine and dryer use also continue. In Third Step, we will continue online classes and social groups. In Third Step, hopefully in mid to late Oct, we ho...pe to have some in person classes / social groups. This will depend on the average number of COVID cases is below 5 and 0 cases from an unknown source). We will advise the community of courses and groups via social media as printing a term 4 guide is challenging when we dont have confirmed dates to book them in. If you have any questions, please phone us on 5623 6032! See more

20.01.2022 GOOD LOCAL STORY #1 This week we begin our editorial partnership with Gippslandia. Every issue will allow us to showcase our progress, our case studies, our pl...ans - knowing that over time well all come to understand the possibilities that social enterprise offers us. So to get the ball rolling we spoke to our first social enterprise case study: Carmel Riley @ Carmel Riley Consulting +++ GSEC: At first we didnt quite understand the true significance of what Carmel Riley was telling us: Carmel Riley Consulting is a for-purpose consulting firm that provides high-calibre business advice to socially minded small businesses, entrepreneurs, government, and non-profits, and in doing so delivers on a dual mission: 1. To ignite the vitality of local economies by providing strategic and tactical advice to for-purpose organisations in order to realise shared economic and social value. But the second line got us. 2. To recruit, train, and mobilise unemployed/underemployed professionals to make a meaningful impact in the community whilst continuing their career development. And then we Zoomed - and it all made sense. CARMEL RILEY explained: This consultancy aims to address recruitment bias, not race bias. The mindset that so often excludes various demographics from employment is a bias that often keeps those who dont speak in our business-as-usual jargon, prevents wonderful, experienced, highly skilled professionals from entering our workforce and we are all the poorer for it. 01.01.2022 FREE Fabric Masks.... How cute is this cat fabric mask? Weve had great fun with our mask making project using heaps of different fabric - bright colours, patterned fabric, plain, dark and theres even some with ballet dancers on it! Our Mask Project team have been super busy making lots and lots of masks to help look after the members of our Community. A call out on Facebook and a team of people hopped in to help. Each of them cut or sewed and picked up and delivered.... And they havent even met each other, due to COVID restrictions, they each just got on with they job. Weve been delighted with the support and delighted with the appreciation and thanks expressed by people who came and picked up a free mask. Then the Committee For Drouin suggested we put masks at the West Gippsland Libraries. Now, were delighted to say the masks are going like hotcakes! Fantastic collective impact from individuals all willing to help out our community. So, if youd like to help cut and / or sew, just message. If youd like a free mask, call in at Drouin or Warragul Library or Warragul Community House and just ask for a mask.
