24.01.2022 Erin Maxwell (Garfield/Tynong) is running an All Girls Cricket Pop Up Clinic beginning Friday 13th March in Warragul. Erin has her Level 1 Coaching Accreditation and has conducted over 40 clinics in the past year. She is currently studying a double diploma in Sport Development and Event Management and plays Div1/2 Premier Women’s Cricket with Dandenong. She will be assisted by 3 other young women from the Warragul district who are passionate about increasing female participation. They are hoping to start an All Girls competition or put in an All Girls team into the Junior Competition for the 2020/21 Season. If you have any daughters/nieces/friend's daughters who might love cricket but would like to play with other girls, can you please encourage them to attend. Details are on the flyer below.
24.01.2022 On behalf of the W.D.C.A cricket community we would like to pass on our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of John-Paul D'Amico. J.P was a valued member of the Western Park Cricket Club and a wonderful bloke that everybody enjoyed playing with and against. He will be sorely missed by the wider community.
22.01.2022 To the W.D.C.A cricket community, I write this letter to you after making the most difficult decision I/we have had to make in my short time in cricket administration. Due to the current health crisis, and after many, many phone calls, emails, and messages the 2019/2020 W.D.C.A home and away season grand finals have been called off.... This has not been a decision taken lightly. Since Cricket Australia released their statement on Tuesday morning, stating that the Sheffield Shield and premier cricket had been cancelled and they expected all other cricket to follow suit, the executive has put in countless hours of research and discussion to arrive where we are now. Whilst we acknowledge that we were still within our rights to play the games this weekend being under the 100 persons limit, and we would have put in place measures to try and limit any infection, we ultimately decided that the responsible thing to do as part of the broader community was to take away any chance of an infection occurring. Whilst I can completely understand competing clubs and players feeling robbed of the opportunity to play, when it is all said and done in the scheme of things happening across the globe at the moment there are far more important things to consider than a local cricket final. Congratulations still need to be offered to those teams who made the grand final on an excellent and competitive season and everyone should look forward to coming back next season to play for that elusive flag. I would like to finish by profusely thanking my fellow members of the W.D.C.A Executive for their huge support throughout not just this current crisis but the whole 2019/2020 season. Whilst we knew all along that there was no perfect answer to this situation, we feel that under the circumstances we have made the right choice for the benefit of cricket and the community at large. Stay safe, and look after your loved ones. Regards Michael Neilson President Warragul & District Cricket Association

20.01.2022 We have come across an old cap. Belongs to an L R Smethurst from the Topiram Cricket Club who in 1930 took 5 wickets in 5 consecutive deliveries. Any ideas out there on the original owner and his family?

12.01.2022 Hi all, As part of some historical statistical research for Western Park I've been conducting, I'm looking to put together some long-form recollections about a couple of Grand Finals from the early 1980's that stand out to me. So, I'm seeking anyone (or anyone who knows anyone) who was involved in the matches, was at the relevant clubs at the time, or have any memories, stories, or the like! 1) 1982-83 B-Grade Grand Final - Western Park 8/455 def. Garfield-Bunyip 449 - the h...ighest Grand Final run-chase I've heard of, and a match the saw Western Park recover from 6/200 to pull off the victory courtesy of 150 to Peter Ross and 100 to Ian Glen. According to the Gazette report, Garfield-Bunyip had their club 'wind-up' the night prior to the conclusion of the game - which definitely caught my interest. Garfield-Bunyip line-up: I. Goodrem, K. Halvy, P. Dawes, G. Shaw, G. McMillan, G. Vittiritti, M. Cussens, P. Mattthews, G. Payne, K. McGrath Western Park line-up: G. Glen, R. Weiderman, R. Glen, G. Hogan, B. Osborne, L. Pitt, P. Ross, I. Glen, G. Nuttall, S. Price 2) 1983/84 Junior Grand-Final - Western Park 486 def. Longwarry 157 - to my knowledge the highest junior score ever recorded in the WDCA, Western Park put Longwarry to the sword over the course of two weekends, led by 65 from Simon Byrne, 129 to Grant Walker, 77 to Alan Cusden, and 75 to David Munro. Poor Jamie Tainton from Longwarry snared 3-118 from 44 overs of toil and Barry Coster 2-126 from 33. Western Park line-up: S. Byrne, G. Walker, A. Cusden, J. Powell, M. Roberts, C. Whelan, D. Purton, R. Ross, D. Munro, C. White, R. Breeden Longwarry line-up: S. Mitchell, S. Lieshout, J. Serong, J. Tainton, B. Coster, S. Reid, M. Allen, D. Wright, G. Minns, G. Mowat, V. Barry Please send any information to Samuel Laffy via this Google Form: https://forms.gle/HVPKjMjCCBZxnNf99 Or alternatively get in touch with Samuel J. Laffy via FB! Thanks, Sam.
