25.01.2022 Lots of obstacle course fun for the children! This sensory experience assists with spatial awareness. With this support the children have been able to demonstrate their respect for their friends, waiting patiently for their turn.

25.01.2022 We had tremendous support for our working bee last Saturday! A big thank you goes to all the families who were able to attend. Lots of hands and willing attitudes made the tasks easier. We were able to construct our Tranquility Garden, dig over and enlarge the mud pit for our mud kitchen, clean the creek bed, weed and prune all the garden beds and transplant lots of plants. The Kinder looks amazing! Thank you to everyone who got involved. Your time is very much appreciate...d! A special thank you goes to Dan Carr from Carr-pentry and Home Maintenance, Jenny Drummond from Two Birds and A Barrow P/L and Ben McLean from Ben McLean Tree Services Pty Ltd

24.01.2022 Following the childrens interests, we made bark canoes after researching how Wurrundjeri people could move on the river!

24.01.2022 Thank you to Jenny Drummond and Bev Hanson from Two Birds and A Barrow P/L for donating specialised knowledge and design towards our Tranquility Garden! They have given us beautiful plants for our Tranquility garden and sensory plants for our sensory garden bed that the children will cherish. Thank you Two Birds and A Barrow P/L for your generosity and time spent with us at our working bee last Saturday, it is very much appreciated!

24.01.2022 "Harriet Harris doesn't mean to be pesky. Sometimes she just is. And her mother doesn't mean to lose her temper.... Sometimes she just does. But Harriet and her mother know that even when they do things they wish they hadn't, they still love each other very much." Mem Fox Ronnie's not sure if her dogs, Lilly and Bear, are laughing at the story or tying to tell Harriet what to do! Does your dog or cat listen to your stories? Does your cat or dog try to tell you what to do? Or does your cat or dog....'drive you wild'?! Have you got a story about something that 'makes you wild'?

23.01.2022 We are so excited to have on site classes with the children again! How many Australian native animals can you find on Fiona’s jumper? We had a lot of fun searching! If you look really closely you might even see some Gumnut babies!

23.01.2022 To familiarise the children with kinder and their friends again, Lyn and Fiona have made up some photo cards of the staff and children and placed them in the children's home activity packs. These can be used to play snap or memory! These games will also support the social skills of waiting and turn-taking which we have been working on in the last few weeks. We have included Ronnie, Rhonda and Carolyn in the photos. By including the 4-year-old staff we can support transition... for next year and by including Carolyn we are able to provide the children with an understanding of all the staff members. We can't wait to see you all after the school holidays! See more

23.01.2022 A big thank you to Dan Carr, from Carr-pentry and Home Maintenance!! Dan donated his time, qualified skills and materials to our working bee at our working bee and constructed our Tranquility Garden. Thank you Dan, for your patience and can do attitude. Thank you for listening to the children and letting them help! The Kinder was very lucky to have you!

23.01.2022 After a few rainy days, all of the beautiful sunshine we had just before school holidays resulted in very lush weeds in our Kitchen Garden! The afternoon session is usually when we are the most productive out in the garden, as we work there prior to having lunch and an outdoor play. So we all got in and worked out the differences between weeds and useful plants! Then we just needed to learn what part of the plant was best to pull up to be able to get the weeds roots out of the ground. We had to make sure that we shook the soil off the plants before we put them in the compost bin so that we left enough soil to let the native plants prosper!

22.01.2022 This week is Children's Week! This year they are supporting Article 15, in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The theme is based on each child's right to choose their own friends and to connect safely with others. Warrandyte Kinder have already implemented in our program techniques to assist the children to engage with others. We will continue with these techniques and also implement a kindness tree and make a people chain they can decorate. We encour...age you yo support your child by organising a one on one play at a local playground with a friend of your child's choice. You could also organise a play with a child your child hasn't engaged with much yet. By having a one on one play your child is able to get to know this child better and this will give them options to expand their friendships. 22.01.2022 We think this is a great video to help everyone understand Autism https://www.facebook.com/watch/

22.01.2022 Developing fine motor skills are an important skill for children to develop. These two girls doing just that, while taking great delight in finding specific pony beads in the tray. These beads are very tiny and are great for eye-hand co-ordination. Pincer grip is also used incidentally here, as you can see..picking up the beads and also threading the beads.

21.01.2022 This is an Australian version based on Aesop's fable of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". We wonder if your child understood the message behind this story?!

19.01.2022 Today is the last day to order your Rob Dolan wine for the kinder fundraiser! 19.01.2022 We are observing lots of pre-literacy happening now, as the children begin to draw and write letters in ways that are meaningful to them. It is so important not to force this on the children as they will all come to it in their own way (and time), given that they are provided with many varied experiences in which to practice

18.01.2022 The children requested the musical instruments be brought out Ronnie gave them instruments that used beaters, as the sounds are more easier on the ear! It is lovely to see the boys experimenting with these instruments, and also how respectful they are of them. In the photos we have the djembe drum, dream drum, and tonal chime bars. It was very interesting to hear the children's sense of rhythm and beat!

17.01.2022 Remembering and thanking our ANZACS. Lest we forget.

17.01.2022 On behalf of the management committee and kinder community, a big thank you to the educators for creating a fun and nurturing remote learning environment for our children! They have been preparing regular activity packs with engaging activities, and providing tutorials and suggestions via our communication platform Storypark. Weekly Zoom catch ups with their friends and educators have been the highlight of the children's week, and we can't wait to see everyone back in the class room next term! Have a fun and safe school holiday break

15.01.2022 THANK YOU!! Thank you so much to all the families that helped at the working bee. It was great to see so many there!! Amazing effort!!... The kinder is looking so tidy and fresh. Ready for our kids!! We truly appreciate everyone’s help. Thank you!!

15.01.2022 Warrandyte Kindergarten is pleased to announce that an Extended Care program, to compliment the Kinder program, will be operating in 2021. Extended Care will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:30. The cost for one session will be $315 per term or a total of $630 per term for both sessions. This is in addition to 2021 term fees. The Extended Care program will be run by two fully qualified early childhood staff members who will embrace emergent and intentional teaching. It will also encompass all areas of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and the National Quality Standards.

15.01.2022 Fiona observed some children playing with our tapping sticks, using them as swords. We used our meeting time to demonstrate to the children that tapping sticks are instruments. We did this using the song Inanay. Inanay is a thought to be a lullaby that originated in the Torres Strait islands. Unfortunately, because of loss of language we can't provide a true translation to the song. ... We used the globe of the world to demonstrate where the Torres Strait Islands are located. See more

15.01.2022 Wow! The tip truck just made it through the gate! It was a pity that the truck couldn't fit under the verandah when it had to tip the sand out! But we had some great parents shovel it in for us...thank you so much, and a big thanks to Riverside Garden & Building Supplies Warrandyte Nice fresh, new sand for the children!

14.01.2022 Our Stephanie Alexander inspired Kitchen Garden is producing an abundance of lemons! The 4 year old group voted for making Lemonade! We looked at a few recipes and found one that we thought would be simple to make. First we had to boil up the sugar and water to make the syrup- great measuring and counting Kids!... We could also see how the sugar changed 'state' as it 'dissolved' in the water. While that was cooling in the fridge, the hard work was about to happen- squeezing all the lemons! It was more tricky than the children thought it would be...they had to make sure they got as much juice out of the fruit as possible. Lots of physical dexterity went into this, as well as working out how to angle the lemon to make sure all sides of it were squeezed to get the most juice! The children were fascinated that the pips and fibres were contained in the top part, whilst the juice continued down into the jugs. The syrup had cooled down enough now to pour it into the collected lemon juice. Now let's try it out!! We did a little taste test first to see if we needed to dilute the syrup part down first. The children thought it was OK by itself! Ronnie said I think I would have preferred a bit more water myself!

13.01.2022 Our newly renovated mud pit is ready for the kids to explore when term 3 starts! Thanks to the kinder dads at the working bee for their hard work getting this ready!

13.01.2022 Ronnie supported and extended the children's understanding of freezing/change of state by creating experiments to items that we have in our Kinder pantry and fridge! We used water, tomato sauce, vinegar, golden syrup, hundreds and thousands, milk, oil, sugar, and dry coffee. When Ronnie placed these into the ice cube trays, she asked the children first if they thought that each item would freeze/not freeze, and then asked them again after the tray had been in the freezer ove...rnight. They had to 'hypothesize' (the makings of future scientists here!), prior to Ronnie taking each item out. She placed the things that froze on one side of the paper, and the things that didn't freeze on the other side. Using reflective discussions, the children had to try to work out why some things froze and some didn't. Do YOU know?! Eventually one child worked out that there was no water/moisture in those substances. Yay! How clever are our children?! The absolute wonder and excitement of discovery is such a magical thing to witness with your children! We Educators are so lucky to see this firsthand.

13.01.2022 Just a reminder that we have our AGM tonight on Zoom at 7:30- all current and future families welcome and encouraged to attend! Join us to reflect on a very eventful year, and look towards the future! Please contact the kinder if you haven't received the Zoom details.

13.01.2022 We've made a little video to showcase our kinder and what families love about it- enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Rrnk6GOEo&feature=youtu.be

11.01.2022 You're never too young to learn about your history!! This was evident with our 3 year old group, where the children have been learning about ANZAC Day. The children decided to bring in flowers from home to create a wreath. This was laid at the RSL memorial on behalf of our kinder community with a card made by our kinder kids.

11.01.2022 Lyn and Fiona were so happy to reconnect in person with some of our 3 year old children again this week. Monday's session started off with a group meeting. The children were so eager to share with us things that had been happening. During this time we also discussed some of the changes at kinder and the importance of not putting things in our mouth, keeping the kinder clean and washing our hands. We ran an indoor/outdoor program. The outdoor space was left a blank sheet to... allow the children to bring their own interest. Inside to help with their initial transition , we programmed just a few of their favourite experiences, such as Magna tiles, LEGO and play dough. Cant wait to see you back again next week! See more

10.01.2022 As we have been unable to have the Responsible Pet Ownership presentation due to the COVID-19 restrictions, instead we have used our many resources to build on the children's understanding of being safe around dogs, as many pet mishaps often happen within the family home, and often requiring medical attention. We first reflected on the differences between dogs and people. How are they the same? How are they different? We looked at images of what a happy, sad/scared, and ...angry dog might look like...and reflected on how we could recognise this. By using reflective, and sustained, conversations and using images to show certain situations, the children were extending on their own learning of when it is best NOT to go near a dog. For example, if you would like to pat a dog when you are out for a walk, how you must ask the owner first, and then approach the dog with your fingers curled under so that the dog may sniff your hand first. If the dog is still happy, you can pat him along his back...never on the head! What it the most important strategies to use if a dog comes up to you when you are away from home? Stand very still (or the dog may think you want to play), keep your hands down, stay as quiet as a mouse, and look at the ground. Wait until the dog has moved away, and then slowly back up and go on your way.

10.01.2022 The boys were riding around the bike track being firemen. When all of a sudden....there was ...... a huge 'flood'! Watch out everyone!! We will look after you! We needed to move away from the 'swampy area'. The boys made sure that they had on their reflective workers vests so that we were able to see them clearly. ... One child even used a rock as a microphone/megaphone to warn all of the children and to tell them what to do and where to go for safety!! What community conscious folk we have at Kinder! After the 'flood', some of the children decided that we needed to make a plan to help with this problem! They took a clipboard, and went to the Peaceful Place and made use of our beautiful wooden tabletop that parents Lauren and Andy kindly placed there recently. What a great addition to this area! It's great to see the collaboration and respect for others ideas happening here.

09.01.2022 Having the whole family in one space for such a long period can be very challenging. We thought we would share the Tucker the Turtle story for the children to revisit and practice skills to calm when they are upset.

09.01.2022 Families describe what they love about Warrandyte Kindergarten!

08.01.2022 Warrandyte Kinder 2020 Wine Fundraiser with Rob Dolan Wines We are so lucky to be part of a kindergarten where the education of our children and support from the community is second to none. Unfortunately, the current annual funding amount that the government provides does not cover all of the costs required to run the kindergarten in the current economic climate.... Due to the Covid -19 pandemic, the kindergarten has been unable to participate in the Warrandyte Festival with our sausage sizzle stall, which normally raises approximately $5,000. We have also had to cancel our major auction fundraiser night which in the past has raised approximately $10,000. With all the home schooling and working from home this year, we thought you have earnt yourselves a well deserved treat of Rob Dolans delicious wine, all while generously helping the kindergarten thrive. Please remember to enjoy responsibly! The following cases will be available: 12 mixed white and red (2 of each variety) 12 white (4 of each variety) 12 red (6 Pinot Noir and 6 Cab Shiraz Merlot) 12 Pinot Noir 12 Cab Shiraz Merlot 6 sparkling Blanc de Blanc DON'T WANT A WHOLE CASE? 07.01.2022 After observing the children using the blocks as a hammer, we placed the tap tap activity out. The children have used the tap tap to explore colour and shape. They have also been able to use their imagination and creativity, making designs! At the tap tap experience, the children have been enjoying transferring the tacks from one dish to another. To assist them in collecting the tacks Fiona added some magnets to the experience. ... By doing so, the children were able to explore how magnets are attracted to metal! This term, we will offer the children a sensory experience that will enable them to pour and transfer resources. We will also set up an experience to assist them to explore magnets further :) See more

06.01.2022 Warrandyte Kinder recognise and understand that times like this can cause anxiety and distress so we urge you to also look after your mental health. Please see below resources for anyone who is feeling any stress, anxiety, depression, or concern during this time. https://www.lifeline.org.au//mental-health-and-wellbeing-d ... https://www.beyondblue.org.au//looking-after-your-mental-h

06.01.2022 Our tranquility corner is now complete thanks to Ben McLean from Ben McLean Tree Services Pty Ltd. He generously donated tree stumps and tree rounds, along with his time. Now the children have the perfect spot to connect with their natural environment. A beautiful corner for the children, and full of many possibilities!! Thanks Ben!

06.01.2022 The children love spending time in our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden! They have been ensuring our winter crop is being well looked after! We can not wait to see all the veggies in full harvest!

05.01.2022 The 3 year old group have started their group mural! The children wanted to paint a picture of Bunjil, with a rainbow. They have started with their Bunjil painting using sponges to apply different shades of Brown. Bunjil is the eaglehawk regarded as the spirit creator of the Kulin nations, which include the Wurundjeri people.

04.01.2022 We recently celebrated National Wattle Day on the 1st of September. We had some fun exploring the Kinder garden for wattle in the beautiful sunshine! We found some wattle on Fionas jumper too amongst other native plants which we also have in the garden :)

04.01.2022 As we will be unable to be together for the next six weeks, we decided to do something special during our last on site session. Through discussions with the children, we organised to cook pancakes and porridge for breakfast. The first thing we had to do was to think about how we will know how to cook the pancakes, and the children told Lyn we would need a recipe. The recipe told us we had to sieve the dry ingredients into a medium bowl.... When going through all the pancake ingredients, we worked out which ones were dry and which ones were wet. The children told me the flour, sugar, and bicarb were dry, and the egg and milk were wet ingredients. They all took on responsibilities including pouring, measuring, mixing and slicing up the toppings. The children enjoyed trying both the pancakes and porridge and they experimented with different toppings. They enjoyed their cooking so much, most of the children came back for seconds and thirds of both the pancakes and porridge. When making the porridge, the children used their sense of smell to work out what type of milk we were using. Their guessed right, it was coconut milk. While we were eating we talked about how we worked as a team to cook our food. To continue to support the concept of the importance of working together, we will read the story The Little Red Hen.

02.01.2022 The children are demonstrating great classification skills, as well as fine motor skills, as they use the tweezers to separate the wild bird seed mix. Using tweezers is a great exercise to build up writing muscles (fine motor) to enable the children to have the strength to hold a writing implement for a length of time.
