17.01.2022 Changes to NDSS products: Some changes will also be made to certain insulin syringes and some blood glucose test strips on the list of products available through the NDSS. Most people with diabetes registered with the NDSS will not be affected by the product changes.... The changes include: Several new brands of blood glucose test strips and insulin syringes will be added. Some existing brands of blood glucose test strips and insulin syringes will be removed. People with diabetes who are affected will still be able to access the same types of subsidised products they need, but some brands of products will change. If someones usual brand is no longer subsidised through the NDSS, they can access a clinically equivalent NDSS product. There will be no changes to urine ketone test strips, insulin pump consumables & continuous glucose monitoring products. Free blood glucose meters: People with diabetes registered on the NDSS will be eligible to receive a free blood glucose meter associated with your preferred new brand of blood glucose test strips as it is advised to upgrade your machine approx every 2 years. We have blood glucose machines in store ready to upgrade if you wish.

03.01.2022 PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: Do not eat wild shellfish from the Huon region in Southern Tasmania This warning was issued on the 24 May 2019 and remains current. Toxic a...lgal blooms (also known as harmful algal blooms or HABs) are present in the Huon region of Tasmania from Verona Sands to the town of South Port. High levels of algal toxins have been detected in shellfish from this region. Recreationally harvested shellfish should not be eaten from this area because the algal toxins are harmful to humans. Seek urgent medical help if you get sick after eating wild shellfish. Symptoms can occur within minutes to hours after eating shellfish. Cooking or freezing the shellfish does not destroy the toxins that cause shellfish poisoning. Shellfish poisoning symptoms include: tingling or numbness weakness blurred vision difficulty breathing vomiting diarrhoea. Seafood in shops and restaurants is safe to eat because Biosecurity Tasmania monitors the safety of commercially grown shellfish. Wild shellfish include: oysters, mussels, clams, pipis, cockles and wedge shells. Abalone, scallop roes and the intestines and livers (tomalley) of rock lobster can also be affected when toxic algal blooms are present. For more info visit www.dhhs.tas.gov.au//curre/wild_shellfish_-_port_esperance

01.01.2022 Sun protection is recommended whenever UV levels reach 3 or higher. Below 3, sun protection isnt recommended unless you are outdoors for extended periods or near reflective surfaces, like snow. Unlike the suns heat and light, we cant see or feel UV radiation, so check the UV for your location on the free SunSmart app or on the Bureau of Meteorology website: www.bom.gov.au/uv. Hobart is rated Very High today. For the best protection, use all five SunSmart steps:... 1. Slip on covering clothing Choose clothing that: covers as much skin as possible, for example, collared shirts with long sleeves. Some clothing may carry an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF), which is a handy guarantee of how much UV protection a fabric provides. 2. Slop on SPF 30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to clean, dry skin at least 20 minutes before you go outside. The average-sized adult will need a teaspoon of sunscreen for their head and neck, each limb and the front and back of the body ? thats about seven teaspoons (35mL) for a full body application. Reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming or excessive sweating. Remember sunscreen is not a suit of armour and should be used with other sun protection measures. 3. Slap on a hat 4. Seek shade 5. Slide on some sunglasses an DRINK DRINK lots of water !!! Stay hydrated.

01.01.2022 Children between six months and five years and pregnant women are vulnerable to the severe impact of flu. They are eligible for a free flu vaccination. Contact your GP today.
