24.01.2022 What happened to me ??!! Teddy the greyhound is not quite sure what went on today, but he is in safe hands at Warranwood Veterinary Centre. He recovered beautifully from his anaesthetic and his teeth are gleaming again after his dental treatment. If you are concerned about your pets breath give us a call on 03 9879 0900.

23.01.2022 Happy first day of Spring, brought to you by the gorgeous Fermi!

23.01.2022 Yes, we are Open. UPDATED PROTOCOL: Please note: Currently we are running a 'Kerbside Consulting' service: Phone the clinic when you arrive and stay in your car. A nurse will come out to collect the pet to be assessed and return the pet to your car. The Nurse and/or veterinarian will then phone you to discuss your pet. This is to limit potential exposure of our staff and practice, as part of our COVID-SAFE plan (and as recommended by the Australian Veterinary Association duri...ng lockdown). Yes, we look forward to seeing you soon and looking after your loved pet! Stay Safe and Take Care. Warranwood Veterinary Centre; 03 9879 0900 See more

22.01.2022 How cute are these two Thick-tailed Geckos (Underwoodisaurus milii)? They are found in rocky outcrops across southern Australia, and are mainly nocturnal, eating insets and small vertebrates in the wild. Maurice and Mort were bred in captivity and were in today for a health check. We determined that they are a pair (one male and one female) so we may be expecting some eggs at some stage in the future!

18.01.2022 While sneezing rabbits are something we see very commonly, occasionally we get patients that are real overachievers...and sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time! Rombolo came to us with an ongoing history of sneezing and nasal discharge. Our treatment trials and diagnostics were proving inconclusive and weren't settling his signs...until on one lucky revisit, Dr. Belinda could see a little something deep in his nostril, and was able to pull out this whopping 9cm long piece of grass! It's likely the grass was deep within the nasal cavity, and luckily was dislodged just enough at the right time to be seen and extracted. We're happy to report Rombolo has made a full recovery, and is a much happier bunny...it's no surprise why!

18.01.2022 Recently, we have had a lovely local client bring us an unwell wild rabbit he found in a local park. While we're thankful we could relieve the poor rabbit's suffering, we have now confirmed myxomatosis to be present in the local area. This is a timely reminder to ensure we take all the precautions we can to keep our pet rabbits safe from this devastating disease. prevent access to flies and mosquitoes that can transmit the virus; even in winter, ensure your rabbit enclosure...s are protected with flywire, or better yet, keep your rabbits inside keep rabbits away from any standing water bodies e.g. ponds, where mosquitoes breed use good hygiene between visiting/handling other rabbits, and handling your own; likewise, prevent wild rabbits from having contact with any pets while we do not have a vaccination for myxomatosis in Australia, ensuring your rabbit is kept up to date with their calicivirus vaccinations is still critically important six monthly health checks are the best way to ensure your rabbit is healthy with an ideal immune system! If you notice any signs of myxomatosis in a pet or wild rabbit (typically swelling of the eyelids, ears, lips and/or genital area), please contact the clinic straight away on 9879 0900. Keep your bunnies safe!

18.01.2022 Stage 4 Restrictions and visiting your Vet: The notes below are form a summary supplied by the AVA Victorian Division: *Veterinary clinics remain an essential service. Veterinary clinics and related services, including on-farm visits and visits to veterinary clinics, animal minding services and artificial insemination are permitted to continue operating. *There are no restrictions on clients attending veterinary clinics even if the veterinary clinic is not within a 5km radi...us of their home. Seeking veterinary care is considered ‘health and care’ and is therefore exempt from curfew hours although appointments should be made within curfew hours, with emergency consultations only outside curfew hours. * Metropolitan Melbourne residents should avoid travelling further than 5kms from their home. For veterinary care or collection of supplies from a veterinary clinic, clients MAY travel further than 5kms. The restriction on travelling further than 5kms from their home is not applicable to regional Victoria (which includes Mitchell Shire) * In Metropolitan Melbourne, only one person per household should be obtaining services or products with the exception of accompanying dependants (children or at- risk persons). This restriction is not applicable to regional Victoria (which includes Mitchell Shire) *** NOTE: Veterinary clinics have pleasingly reported no COVID-19 infections across Australia. This is not by accident the workplace processes implemented and precautions taken in relation to infection control by all veterinarians and their staff has been exceptional.

16.01.2022 Electra is a female Water Dragon (Intellagama lesueurii howittii) modelling during her health check today. This subspecies is the Gippsland Water Dragon. Some Gippsland locals call them 'Snowy River Crocs'! It's amazing the range of personalities of our patients - Electra certainly has the 'wow' factor.

13.01.2022 Neptune, the frill-necked lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii) was not too impressed after his weigh in and health check! Apart from some retained scales from a shed, he is in excellent condition. Did you know this lizard is capable of bipedal locomotion - where it 'runs' upright, using its back legs.

13.01.2022 What a difference a little love makes! We love seeing our rescues at Warranwood, and would like to share the story of little Valley. Nurse Laura runs No Hairs Ark Chinese Crested Rescue (and does amazing work!), and took Valley in after she was surrendered. She was initially very unwell, and we weren't convinced she would survive. However, with three months of TLC and treatment for her underlying hypothyroidism, just look at her now! Before shots on the left, current shots on the right. While she still has some problems that are being treated, she is coming along miraculously. Sometimes love really is the best medicine!

12.01.2022 Echidnas truly are amazing creatures. Such an incredible and dramatic body form, biology, physiology and anatomy... actually everything about them is astonishing! We are lucky to be able to care for these special creatures at Warranwood Veterinary Centre. This young female was referred to to us from an experienced registered wildlife carer with severe neurological signs. Despite supportive care we were unable to save her. If you find injured or orphaned wildlife the first point of contact should be Wildlife Victoria 03 8400 7300, the NEAREST vet clinic to where the animal is found, or Zoos Victoria (Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne or Werribee Zoos). https://www.wildlifevictoria.org.au

12.01.2022 'Gonad Gavin' was in today for... removal of his gonads. He has been a bit boisterous at home, and has an impressive urine spray distance of over 2 metres! His owner Liz expects him to keep his full name, despite his recent 'loss'.

12.01.2022 Fun Ferret Facts - These cheeky pets are notorious for getting into trouble. Make sure to provide safe toys, and supervised at all times when outside their enclosure - Distemper is invariably fatal in ferrets. Talk to us about vaccination options - A high quality diet is required for this strict carnivore - We recommend at least 6 monthly health checks... - Call us on 03 9879 0900 to book your ferret in for a chekup See more

11.01.2022 We celebrate Dr Belinda’s time at Warranwood Veterinary Centre. We wish her all the best for the future as she leaves us in early December.

10.01.2022 Avoid Boar Butt! This is 'Boar Butt', where a geriatric entire male guinea pig develops dilation of the 'back passage' and often the owner has to express - or to 'clean out their bum' regularly to put it nicely! The chance of this occurring is drastically reduced if the male guinea pig is desexed at an early age. So get your boy piggies fixed and avoid you having to get the gloves out....

09.01.2022 Here's looking at you!!! The team at Warranwood Veterinary Centre wanted to pass on our sincere thanks to all of our wonderful clients, old and new, during our altered services due to COVID-19. Demand for veterinary services has been extremely high, and as a small clinic, we are striving to see patients as soon as we can. Most of the time, there is only one nurse and one vet in the building to keep things COVID-safe, so delays are unfortunately sometimes inevitable. Our nurse...s are absolute rockstars and are not only having to fill in for owners and cuddle every patient while the vets do their checks (which they do very well!), but answering the very busy phones, doing post-operative checks, taking clients medication and food, giving patients injections...and usually all of these things at once (we still don't understand how...they are superstars!). We are also experiencing a higher number of animals arriving as emergencies with no appointment, which naturally pushes us further behind schedule. All this being said, we want to thank YOU!!! We have been overwhelmed at the understanding and empathy exhibited by our clients, even when experiencing a delay to your appointment. Your passion for the welfare of our special little critters is so wonderful to see...and clearly extends to those of us who take care of them. Thank you so much for your support of your veterinary team. Together, we will get through this, and we look forward to seeing you all in person again when restrictions ease! See more

09.01.2022 Yes, we're back open after the Christmas/New Year break! We hope you all had some time to recharge. Note that typically the first few days back can be quite hectic. Consultations are by appointment so please phone 03 9879 0900 to book your pet a time to be seen.

06.01.2022 COVID-safe update for clients: - We are now allowing 1 client/family into the clinic at a time - When you arrive DO NOT enter the clinic: call us on 9879 0900 - You must wear a mask in the clinic (see below for examples of some inappropriate face coverings! - Scan our QR code in the clinic to register your visit... - See you and your pet soon! 04.01.2022 Did you know we also see mythical creatures at Warranwood Vet Centre? Anybody who has ever mentioned anything about greyhounds anywhere close to Warranwood might have noticed Dr. Belinda is ever so slightly obsessed! Since losing her old boy earlier in the year, there was a greyhound-sized hole in her heart...so it’s time to welcome baby Zenith!... Greyhound puppies are very rare to see (almost mythical!), as most are kept within the racing industry until they are deemed unsuitable as older dogs. For Zenith, a congenital deformity was his ticket out! He has a large cleft palate: a hole in the roof of his mouth, such that it communicates with his nasal cavity. Luckily for Zenith, his guardian angel in the form of a vet nurse rescued him, reared him, and asked if he’d become a part of the Warranwood family when he was ready...who could say no to that face?!? While we wait for Zenith to grow big enough for specialist surgery, he is reliant on a drinker as he struggles to drink from a bowl. Check him out doing his best rabbit/guinea pig impersonation!

04.01.2022 Don't forget to spare a thought for Rabbit Run-Away Orphanage and all the great work Judi, Bryce and team do for bunnies....

03.01.2022 It's a tad chilly out there! It's days like these our clinic sees pets with musculoskeletal issues - problems that may have been there for weeks to months not obvious, but exacerbated by the cold spell. Arthritis is common in older pets so if you pet is a bit stiff or sore give us a call on 03 9879 0900 to book in for a check. There are some amazing medications available these days to keep them pain free and mobile.

02.01.2022 Transition towards face-to-face consultations. With easing of the state government COVID restrictions in Victoria we are revising our consultation protocol. A COVID-safe plan is in place and we have the following protocol: - Only 1 person (or essential personnel only) and their pet are allowed at any one time in the waiting room. (If the waiting room is occupied, please wait outside and call the clinic on 03 98790900 to alert the receptionist of your arrival) - A face mask mu...st be worn inside the building - Social distancing rules apply whilst in the clinic - Hand sanitising rules apply - You may be asked to sit in the waiting room whist your pet is assessed, however the veterinarian will speak to you face-to-face We are excited to be able to begin this transition process and look forward to seeing you soon! 02.01.2022 Special Pets deserve special carriers. All our patients are special but Mr Chachi the Guinea Pig wins the prize for the most colourful carrier today. He was in today for some dental work. Thanks to Chachi's masked mum for bringing fun and happiness to our morning!

01.01.2022 Putting your eggs in 1 basket? 'Little One' the Murray Turtle (Emydura macquarii) has provided her owner Anna with some unique Christmas presents- a bowl full of eggs. Little one was brought to us agitated, trying to dig out of her enclosure. A subsequent x-ray discovered 15 eggs inside her. After waiting a while we elected to help by giving an oxytocin injection - and the result is a 'bowl of eggs'. (not all the passed eggs are in the bowl, in case you were counting!) Little One was back in today for a recheck. The follow-up xray shows 3 eggs still present. We expect a second oxytocin treatment will finish the job!

01.01.2022 Stay Cool. Stay Safe. It's going to be very hot tomorrow. Look after yourself and your pets. Consider taking your pets inside into airconditioning. Wet towels and drape over outside enclosures to keep those outside pets cool.
