24.01.2022 Keith and Wendy Scanlon painted a fantastic mural of a beach and rain forest on the walls of our otherwise dull internal staircase. It took them about a month to complete. See their web site at http://www.keithscanlon.com

24.01.2022 Our first guests from China checked in today. They are a nice couple from Nanjing. We have had guests from Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, Japan, England, France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Belorussia, Italy, Ukraine, and now China. We really enjoy having a chinwag (chat) with our guests.

24.01.2022 We are open for business in September. It has taken us six years of work and angst to get to this point with our property, which we bought in 2006. Warrawong Lodge is available as a venue for wedding receptions and parties. It will be fabulous in photos because of the view of Coral Sea. We met with our landscape architect and landscaper this week to plan the next stage of landscaping work in front of the house/B&B. It will take 1-2 months to get the plants in but it will be a big improvement in the appearance of the grounds.

22.01.2022 We have enjoyed a Dutch family staying with us: Richard, Alexandra, and Geordis. They took some beautiful photos of our property and shared them with us.

22.01.2022 Living in the tropics, we see a lot of interesting insects. Yesterday, I came across an interesting one. Spiny leaf insect, which is actually a stick insect. More information at http://www.ozanimals.com//Spiny-L/Extatosoma/tiaratum.html

20.01.2022 The Cairns Post had a nice artlcle yesterday. Thank you Cairns Post!

18.01.2022 This unusual looking mushroom popped up in our garden overnight. I looked it up: a popular name is basket stinkforn fungus The top is smelly and slimy to attract flies to spread spores. The lacy collar is beautiful and amazing for a mushroom.

16.01.2022 We received our star rating from aaatourism of 4 stars. We are happy with that. With a few improvements, new year we should get 4 and a half stars.

15.01.2022 One our of six plum bougainvilleas.

13.01.2022 Today is a beautiful winter's day. I took a photo of kite surfers in front of Scouts Hat, just off Palm Cove.

12.01.2022 Last week, we drove to a nursery just beyond Ravenshoe, 5 hour drive roundtrip, to buy a frangipani for the small garden bed by our pool. The nursery www.sacredgardenfrangipani.com, was very interest. The owner said he has the biggest collection of frangipanis in Australia. We bought Angel of Love, an evergreen semi-dwarf with beautiful flowers. Ours is just a meter high, but it is supposed to double in size within 6 months, and flower.

12.01.2022 The P&O cruise ship Pacific Dawn is anchored off Yorkey's Knob this morning, so we have a great view of it.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to Jackie and Brad, who were married on Saturday and had their wedding reception at Warrawong Lodge. Everyone had a great time.

09.01.2022 We see wallabies on our property more frequently since a developer cleared and subdivided the block next to us.

09.01.2022 Leizel Marks and Terrence Patterson were married here in June. Leizel sent us some beautiful photos taken at Warrawong Lodge.

06.01.2022 Bush turkey in our garden.

04.01.2022 We came through Cyclone Ita, category 1, with minimal damage. It was very windy yesterday. Today is clear. We have a few trees down, heaps of leaves and branches, some dirt slid down from the batter at the back of the block but that seems to be it. We are tidying up, and putting the outdoor furniture back outside. We sympathise with the people in Cooktown and elsewhere who have suffered substantial damage.
