19.01.2022 We are excited to report that Dr John Burke, chairman of the Warren Museum and Gallery Association Inc. and his team have successfully applied for a $3.5 million dollar funding grant under the Building Better Regions Fund Infrastructure Projects Stream Round 4 Drought Support. This project will restore the old Parker’s Garage/Collier’s Garage - an architecturally significant and historic building on the main street of Warren, and fit it out as a museum, art gallery and artist-in-residence space. Follow this page to keep up to date.
18.01.2022 Perhaps you're wondering what the image is, on our timeline photo. In 1939, the Water Tower for the Warren Shire Council was completed. The mayor at the time was Eric Reginald Green, who held his position as major for 13 years. At the time, Eric was the youngest mayor in Australia. Eric Reginald Green was the 'Green' of Lovett & Green Solicitors, a business that he established with his father-in-law, Mr Lovett. Mr Lovett had arrived in Warren in 1894. The ashtray was clever...ly created by Harry Woolnough, who was the inspector for the Water Tower project. Harry was an engineer, who owned and operated Woolnough's Pumps & Motors in Dubbo Street* (now known as Menzies Pumps & Irrigation). Harry made the ashtray on a lathe, and presented it to Eric on the completion of the project. The engraving on the ashtray says:~ Eric Green - Mayor, Harry Woolnough - Inspector, Sir John Butters - Engineer, and J.D. Cable - Contractor. *It has been suggested that the original location for Woolnough's Pumps & Motors was on the corner of Lawson & Readford Streets. If you can supply any other information about this, or about the history of this ashtray, please message our page, or email us at [email protected].
