25.01.2022 Summer Season 2016-17 Round 12 Results: 20th of February 2 weeks is all that remains until finals and even though the top four has been finalized, competition at the top has never been more tight. Round 12 saw Olympique Marseille (1st) and Tekkerslovakia (2nd) make light work of their opponents, both recording 13-5 wins. Both sides also boast the top two in the golden boot race and boy did they show their class. Wil Green from Olympique Marseille, who played in the 7 o'clock ...game, scored 7 past 5 Times FC only to be outshone by Cal Gerritsen who played in the game immediately after and put 9 goals away against a defenseless Backstreet Boys. The match of the round though was played out between 3rd placed Norfolk Enchants and 4th placed Amigos. The two sides locked horns with a win for Norfolk meaning they remained one point behind Marseille, whilst a win for Amigos guaranteed them a finals berth. Neither team backed down from the challenge with the lead throughout the game never being more than 1 goal. A half time lead of 2-1 to Norfolk Enchants showed positive signs as their defensive record is the best in the league, only conceding 3 goals a game on average. But the added benefit of having subs meant that Amigos were able to run out the game better and eventually were able to seal a 4-3 win thanks to a late goal. This means that the top 4 is locked in as Marseille are placed atop the table with 25 points, whilst the three teams chasing them are all on 21 points. Stay tuned over the next month for all the upcoming fixtures and results. 23.01.2022 Summer Season 2016-17 Round 8 Results: 23rd of January Well, after 2 and a half seasons, the unbeaten streak of Olympique Marseille has come to an end. The sides first ever loss since the beginning of the competition came at the hands of Backstreet Boys who, behind a four goal effort from Martin Van Rooy and some resolute defending, were able to come away 7-3 winners in what was a standout for match of the round.... A tough first half saw both teams apply their physical game styles and neither side backed down. 2 goals to Backstreet were the only goals to come from the first half as some great defending kept the potent strike forces at bay. After the half though, a more free flowing attacking style from both teams saw the game open up and with that, came goals to both sides. a narrow 4-2 lead to Backstreet for most of the half saw the game balance on a razors edge, until Martin Van Rooy was able to put away 2 crucial goals and all but seal the win for Backstreet. In the other matches from the round, Tekkerslovakia were able to get the win against Amigos in what could have been the match of the round on any other night. 5 goals to Cal Gerritsen helped him stake his claim as a candidate for the golden boot as the final score was 8-5 in Tekkers favor. And even though Bag of Spuds were able to double their goal tally for the season with two goals to Jimmy McKenzie, they were unable to get past 5 Times FC who came away 7-2 winners. 05.01.2022 Summer Season 2016-17 Round 11 Results: 13th of February Finals are fast approaching and the competition has never been more fierce. Round 11 gave us some absolutely amazing matches with all three games being hard fought battles for the 3 points. With that being said, match of the round was exceptionally hard to pick, but in the end, the upset defeat of Olympique Marseille by Amigos FC means that it takes the spotlight for this week.... Going into the game, Amigos knew that a win would all but seal themselves a finals spot, but that would be easier said than done against the top of the table Marseille side who have only lost once this year. As the first whistle blew, it could be seen that the game would be a tight affair with goals coming few and far between with both sides conceding very few goals throughout the season. A scrappy first half saw Marseille take a 2-1 lead into the break. But the added benefit of having a sub played into the hands of Amigos as in the second, they were able to over run Marseille, scoring 5 goals to their opponents 1. The final score for the game ended 6-3 and the three points going to Amigos. Other matches for the round saw Norfolk Enchants scrap their way to a tight 8-7 win over Tekkerslovakia, with Norfolk now 1 point behind Marseille for top spot and Amigos and Tekkers tied on points for third. Backstreet Boys were also able to score 8 against Bag Of Spuds in their 8-5 win. With the top 4 now all but locked in for finals, it seems its just a matter of who can get the second chance advantage by finishing in the top 2. Stay tuned to the page over the next month to get all the regular season, finals, best and fairest and golden boot winners info you need.
