25.01.2022 Apologies for the delay in updating on all things nature based play space but we have been busy finalising the project. The team have been planting and mulching within the nature based play space and creating new garden beds surrounding the space. Turf was laid during the week and will be establishing over the coming weeks. An official opening date has not been set by the Friends of Warrnambool Botanic Gardens as Stage 3 restrictions are still in place and an easing of these restrictions needs to occur before a date can be set. It is an exciting project that is nearing completion and will be a great addition to the gardens

22.01.2022 Exciting is an understatement Congratulations to all those involved in making this a reality. A huge shout out to the community that ensured it happened

21.01.2022 The Friends of Warrnambool Botanic Gardens have set the date for when the Nature Based Play Space will be available for public use: Thursday October 29 The Friends of WBG have done a fantastic job in delivering this project and we all look forward to making it available for use.

18.01.2022 A few views from the working week #lovewhereyouwork

18.01.2022 Exciting times with the 11 bluestone shards installed yesterday within the Nature Based Play Space. Thanks to the WCC botanics and tree team for assisting the contractor in achieving a great result despite the wet weather. The water play space will now be constructed between the shards.

18.01.2022 Just a reminder that the Nature Based Play Space is now open and ready for use. Looking forward to seeing both young and old enjoying this exciting new addition to WBG.

17.01.2022 An update on the Nature Based Play Space with the water play space nearly completed. Thanks to the WCC concrete team for all their work and expertise in exposed aggregate. Drainage and water activation point to be hooked up this week. Works to be completed include additional softfall sand, mulch, soil, completion of northern path, landscaping and turf.

12.01.2022 Disappointing to report that 2 trees have been vandalised in the pinetum over the weekend Both trees are approximately 7-10 years old. If anybody has any information please report directly to Warrnambool Police - thanks

11.01.2022 We’re sad to report that two rare palms were stolen from the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens last night. The palms, Trachycarpus princeps and Trachycarpus ukhrulensis, respectively, are not readily available to the public. They were planted in August and cost $780 each.... They were in cages, un-labelled and not advertised on social media. If anyone sees the palms, or has any information that could assist the investigation, please contact the Warrnambool Police on 5560 1333.

10.01.2022 Exciting day with the water hooked up to the water play space. A big thanks to plumbers Brian and Luke for all your work and attention to detail. It’s getting closer to completion

10.01.2022 A few pics from the week that was - the gardens are in full bloom

09.01.2022 Whilst progress appears to have slowed on the nature based play space it’s all been happening below ground. Excavation for the bluestone shards and tunnel has occurred and the concrete footings have been poured for both of the above. We have 11 bluestone shards to be placed around the water play area in the coming weeks and the bluestone tunnel also to be installed.

08.01.2022 A few photos during the morning bin run and before the rain came

06.01.2022 The bluestone tunnel was successfully installed today in the nature based play space. Thanks to Bamstone for delivering on time with such a key design element in the project. A few more components to complete but we are heading in the right direction. No opening date has been set yet but stay tuned.

06.01.2022 In the lead-up to the local government election, the Local Government Act places restrictions on content that we can post. Until October 24, our posts will be very limited. Thank you for your understanding.

02.01.2022 Thanks to Nick Higgins from the WCC Communications team for braving the ordinary weather for the footage

01.01.2022 Nice to walk around the gardens after yesterday’s rain - here’s a few of the things I saw
