22.01.2022 Facebook Live presentation on the basics of duck colour genetics. In this group at 7pm (AEST) on Sunday 12 July. I'm still reading and preparing the talk so if there is a specific you want covered comment below and I may be able to squeeze it in.

21.01.2022 Hi everybody. We hope that you are all well in these challenging times. Fingers crossed that the sacrifices everyone is making means that we will see some changes in restrictions soon. However, we have made the decision that in the interests of safety and clarity we need to postpone this years Annual Show in July until 2021. I say postpone as we still want to celebrate Andrew's achievements and the anniversary of our club with the best show possible. Obviously we don't yet... know what the first weekend of July this year looks like but we would normally have our schedules out now, be running working bees, making arrangements re catering and dinner, we also have a large number of exhibitors from SA. So there is a lot that would have to change dramatically to have a successful show. Most importantly feature shows are about socialising - a show without the social part is just a competition. We are sure that you will understand and we look forward to seeing you all at our annual show in 2021. See more

19.01.2022 Not good news. An outbreak of bird flu in south-west Victoria is growing. Chickens at a free range egg farm near Lethbridge tested positive last week. A contain...ment zone was set up and thousands of chickens were sadly culled. Now chickens at a second free range egg farm in the region are sick with it too. Avian influenza rarely impacts humans but a large outbreak has the potential to shut down the region's egg production. And that would mean colossal losses for farmers at an already tough time. The State Government has ordered that all free range chickens in the region be kept inside for at least the next 30 days to try to control the virus spread. More info on the containment zone around Golden Plains Shire here: https://agriculture.vic.gov.au//p/avian-influenza-bird-flu

16.01.2022 On behalf of the club and our members, we would like to pass on our condolences to Jeffrey Wilson on the passing of his mother Jill. Jill her late husband Noel and Jeffrey have been great supporters of our club, all local clubs and many Ag Societies. Jill as her late husband Noel will be sorely missed.

15.01.2022 Let's celebrate the first day of spring Have you spotted a sprinkling of beautiful yellow wattle around your place lately?

14.01.2022 I am planning to give a talk this coming Sunday if any members are interested

10.01.2022 The Victorian Government has revealed a free-range egg farm near Lethbridge has tested positive for avian influenza. A restricted area buffer zone has been esta...blished by authorities within a five-kilometre radius of the farm, stopping the movement of birds and related products within and out of Golden Plains Shire. Victoria's Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Graeme Cooke, has urged all poultry farmers to keep an eye on any unexplained bird deaths, as well as separate all domestic birds from wild birds. He says the consequences of the virus spreading could be devastating. "Avian influenza of this type causes a large number of fatalities and therefore a very high degree of economic loss and of course that also means either death of the bird or decreased egg production," Dr Cooke said.

08.01.2022 Why do you choose Grey Sunflower seeds over Black? Did you know there was a difference? Black Sunflower seeds more energy dense due to being much higher in oils... & fats, they also have a much higher Vitamin E content Black seeds are more suited to stock animals ie. Horses Grey Sunflower seeds are lower oils and fats making them much healthier for birds.... Black sunflower seeds to birds is like a little kid in a candy shop... they are not overly health or beneficial in large quantities - Be careful! 01.01.2022 Stay safe everybody. It’s a time to weigh things up carefully. COVID-19 is proving to be a tricky enemy, so spend more time with your birds and if you must leave home remember your mask and hand sanitiser. We also have an outbreak of Avian Influenza in Golden Plains Shire, so think carefully if you need to move birds or eggs to or from your yards at all and become familiar with the exclusion zones if you must transport birds or eggs at this time.
