22.01.2022 The Doryanthes Palmer has flowered lots this year, the first time ever. 20.01.2022 Warrnambool Art Gallery Wetland Display on from now on for the summer. Check out the handmade orchids. Great display, great effort.

19.01.2022 I posted pics of Correa reflexa 'Fat Fred' recently. Now here's Correa reflexa 'Fat Bastard', one of Phil Vaughan's releases. This one is not only fat but it'...s BIG when you compare it against Fat Fred in the secpnd photo. I find this form gets leggy very quickly, perhaps because of the extra vigour being grafted. It seems to strike ok from cuttings so but on its own roots demands excellent drainage, as does Fat Fred. See more

15.01.2022 A soggy home isn't what any of us would want, but this summer if you're around Warrnambool, Victoria you can visit the Warrnambool Art Gallery and check out som...e of the animals who do love a soggy home in our catchment! The gallery's Family Learning Centre has been transformed into a vibrant wetland where children can explore and play with wonderful oversized creatures, created by local artist Megan Nicolson. The Soggy Homes: The Wonder of Wetlands, exhibition Megan has created a White-footed Dunnart, large Growling Grass Frog, a Western Bright-Eyed Brown Butterfly (that is regionally extinct), the brightly-coloured Little Galaxias fish and other plants and animals for children to wander around in. She has paired her work with a soundscape made from recordings by the Nature Glenelg Trust The exhibition is on at the WAG until June 6 2021. A free activity book ‘Field Guide’ and a suite of programs and events support the exhibition. Justin Williams

15.01.2022 Always found Diplolaena angustifolia to be a fussy princess and I know others have similar experience. So up into a new tub, fresh mix, Seasol, Worm Wee and of course more Troforte M....here we go with another round of flowering. So want to get seed from in a few months. See more

14.01.2022 Enjoying the incredible work of the late Stan Kelly, whose well-loved #eucalypt watercolours are studied by botanist and artist alike. Kelly was a train driver ...with a deep fascination and love of eucalypts, often hopping off a train to grab cuttings of species he hadn't seen before along the track. After deciding to record the entire genus of Eucalyptus, he spent 32 years traveling across Australia, tracking down and illustrating 508 species. We hope you all enjoy this beautiful little video about the fascinating Stan Kelly, a true gum nut from Ararat: https://cv.vic.gov.au//an-eye-for-eu/an-eye-for-eucalypts/ See more

04.01.2022 South African Weed Orchid. Flowering now in the district. A newish noxious weed. Dastardly properties: each multiflowering plant produces spore seeds that sca...tter on the wind travelling vast distances. Supposedly thousands per plant. Plants also have two bulbs, so if you remove the top there will be two plants the next year. They are becoming widespread in the Grampians and only time before they reach east Gippsland. See more

02.01.2022 We’re sad to report that two rare palms were stolen from the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens last night. The palms, Trachycarpus princeps and Trachycarpus ukhrulens...is, respectively, are not readily available to the public. They were planted in August and cost $780 each. They were in cages, un-labelled and not advertised on social media. If anyone sees the palms, or has any information that could assist the investigation, please contact the Warrnambool Police on 5560 1333. These images are for illustrative purposes only. The one on the right is Trachycarpus princeps (image credit Danerikk) and the one on the left is Trachycarpus ukhrulensis (image credit Achat Vente Palmiers). See more
