25.01.2022 Apology: if youve been trying to call, the local Telstra tower has been down since yesterday and could be for a whole week!!! Youll need to get me on messenger if urgent. Its not great timing with the evacuation centre for the local bushfire being right across the road. These poor people cant even call family to let them know theyre safe! Good one Telstra.

24.01.2022 To the untrained eye this is just a Shimano Baitrunner 6500B, but something is not quite stock. The bail arm on these and the early Spheros was notorious for breaking at the bail roller housing. A new bail arm fitted, but from other model Shimanos with non obsolete parts and dare I say it, better than the original. 20.01.2022 A bent shaft is not the first thing you look for with overheads as the symptoms are almost identical to a shot thrust bearing. But then you notice the spool not central in the body recess and kick yourself you didnt notice it until the 3rd strip down. 20.01.2022 This is a first for me, A small bit of carbontex drag obviously escaped the punching area and found its way to the bench of the bloke who was putting this Stradic Ci4 1000FA together. He wanted to get it A1 for her son to use in memory of his father. A full rebuild and 7 bearings later, this lad has an heirloom and lifetime memory. 17.01.2022 So, a bloke sent his reel off for a service and a repair to a persistant oscillation issue he had with his '08 Stella, and charged appropriately. Before his Exy run, I give it the once over. Line roller bearings shot and seized to a point that the gear pullers won't budge them! They didn't do that bit. Madness!!! 17.01.2022 I love a good story with a happy ending. This Marquesa was ripped out of its rod holder by a 20kg sambo in about 30m of water. 2 drifts later, one of the crew picked up the trailing braid and 300m was retrieved and up came the combo attached to the backing. Now the work really started. Winding the line back onto the reel, they realised the other end was still attached to the fish. The sambo was released and the reel went into a bucket of fresh water. 16.01.2022 This is the damage done by the ball bearing in the oscillating gear in the previous post to the teeth of the idle gear. The scoring on the shaft is where a bearing had completely seized. 16.01.2022 When a quote is requested before work commences, there is a fair bit involved to accurately assess each bearing and component of each reel. At this point, if the customer decides to not go ahead with the job and they want them back in one piece, they almost always feel worse than before due to dislodged rust and dirt. 15.01.2022 The infamous Shimano "grease port" is a strange one (top left). It allows access to the back of the main drive gear only (top right), and doesn't make it to the teeth. This one (bottom left) shows clearly where the bulk of the 4 dabs of grease went, squeezed from the meshing gear teeth and wasted. The last pic (bottom right) is Shimano Ace-2 grease oozing from the drag. Ace-2 grease is awesome on gears in larger reels, but too thick for drags, where as Shimano's TBM0 lube is as good as they get. 3 new bearings and this thing doesn't feel dry anymore. #shimano #warrsreels #stella #reelservicing #greaseitright

13.01.2022 3 Saltigas all in a world of hurt today. All with serious water intrusion destoying 12 bearings between them. All 3 pinion support bearings had collapsed completely. Fingers crossed nothing has gone through the gears. The 4500H had the craziest salt build up I've seen under the rear cover. The last SR-20 Twin Spin was here 9 bloody months with parts issues!!! The customer was pretty happy after what I went through with it, especially the price after the blood, sweat n tears that went into it. 09.01.2022 Heres a lesson in storage. These 2 Stellas are literally locked together. The handle on the SW10000 is screwed in so tight that its wedged the 4000 in solid. If the handle doesnt come out, the rotor has to come off. A bit of a bugger if you arent good with that sort of thing and your on a trip. #shimano #warrsreels #stella #tangled

I could hear the now heating conversation on the other end, and he was absolutely convinced these weren't his! 3hrs later I get the apologetic call to say that they were that new and clean, he just did not recognise them.
