25.01.2022 visualising a thermal is never easy smoke helps...

25.01.2022 Now for some good news in these dark days... $35,000 Queensland Community Benefit Fund grant was awarded to Warwick Gliding Club go towards a new engine replacement for our Pawnee WPS. Thank you Val Wilkinson for all your work over the years on getting this grant awarded!!!... We have 12 months to acquit the grant once it is awarded so we will bide our time and wait for the AUD - USD to recover before placing the engine order from the USA. This grant couldnt have been timed better as it means we can keep our finances well in the black even after the engine is ordered.

22.01.2022 Enjoying a mutual flight with the seabreeze pushing in together with Gareth at Boonah Gliding Club. Wednesday flying at Boonah.

20.01.2022 Always nice to get a photo on TV! This was shown on Jenny's Weather on ABC Queensland and it is of the thunderstorms which moved through the Rosevale / Coleyvi...lle areas and then eventually Boonah and areas east. The shelf cloud was spectacular! I'm still going through my photos from yesterday. Lots of storms seen and photographed - it was quite a day! Unfortunately some storms were damaging and it looks like there'll be more in the next couple of days, so watch the radar / sky / BoM warnings.

20.01.2022 Polish innovation.

19.01.2022 Its great to see more women entering into aviation

19.01.2022 Today was yet another example of not taking Skysight too literally. Yes there was a chance of a shower but these were over the Granite Belt and the Range and the rest of the sky was perfect for soaring. There was a good turnout and the tug was kept busy also launching the Air Force Cadet instructors.

18.01.2022 could get a lot wetter...

17.01.2022 Its been a fantastic cross country week so far with many long distance flights being done by visiting Boonah pilots. Great that our two clubs can share the skies together!

13.01.2022 The penultimate day of winter. I grabbed a flight with Denis Nolan in the PW-6 just out of its Form 2 and enjoyed a 45 minute flight. Many thanks to Andres Miramontes and his work crew. Good to see Gareth progressing his flying and 9KN trying to westle the Warwick Winter Cup from Peter Plunkett.

13.01.2022 A big turnout at the club today, ten gliders I think. It started out soft but the skies cleared and we had 6kt climbs to 7,500ft. Thanks for Phil and Ivor for sharing the towing and Denis Nolan as duty instructor. A glorious end of autumn day.

13.01.2022 not good. This is an increasingly common theme.

07.01.2022 Aviation club ready for post-virus takeoff Jessica Paul 8th May 2020 THE Warwick Gliding Club may not be all systems go just yet, but the eased coronavirus restrictions are certainly helping them get their sport back off the ground.... On Monday, the aviation club were able to hold their first meeting in months at Massie Airfield, giving its members fresh hope for the future. Warwick Gliding Club president David Kinlan said continued social distancing measures meant only club members from the Southern Downs region and qualified to fly independently could attend. We had a good day on Monday, the (Labour Day) holiday it was very good conditions, very nice weather, just a great day, Kinlan said. Aviation hasnt been really badly or adversely affected in general, and its good to see people already back up and flying. Were not open to the public either, so were not operating from our clubhouse or doing any passenger flights at the moment. Kinlan said this time of the year was typically a busy period for the club, with members and passengers alike travelling from all over the state and even NSW to take part. The main restriction affecting us is the 50km travelling radius, especially with so many members being in Brisbane, he said. A lot of our members are Brisbane-based, and weve got a number of students learning to fly, so theyve been the worst affected (by the coronavirus). Its affected a few of our members who live across the border as well one of our instructors lives just over the NSW border, so thats obviously impacted him. For Kinlan and the rest of the Warwick Gliding Club, the most important thing was to abide by social distancing laws for as long as needed to make sure the sport could take off once more. Were observing social distancing and not congregating in groups, so thats what were doing this weekend, Kinlan said. Were quite active usually, because its quite nice weatherwise this time of year, so its definitely a big impact on our club. Were definitely happy to get back into the swing of things, but cant wait until the club is back up and running full tilt.

06.01.2022 make hay while the sun still shines...

05.01.2022 This direction is written on 25 March 2020. Over the previous weekend, the committee has sought to preserve the ability to fly for those members who could safely and sensibly do so whilst remaining within the government guidelines of social distancing. The Prime Ministers statement at 9pm last night essentially requesting the curtailment of all non-essential travel and to stay at home has made it clear that we are only a short time away from a total lockdown as more corona c...ases become apparent. Under these circumstances, our efforts to keep the door ajar by having independent operators only flying is no longer viable or appropriate. The committee cannot support the concept that any travel to the airfield in order to go gliding is in any way essential. Our member demographic has a significant number of our members in the high-risk group so any form of social grouping should be avoided. Many other gliding clubs faced with the same circumstances have recently suspended operations and reluctantly we will also follow suit and consequently there will be no aerotowing at the airfield until further notice. Please follow the government guidelines and stay at home as much as possible. It will be a long and difficult time ahead before we can once again take to the skies, please take care in the meantime.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to junior member Nick Mansfield who went solo on Sunday! #firstsoloflight #firstsolo

02.01.2022 Sunday 20 Sept we had 3 USQ aviation students visit us for an air experience flight. Conditions were overcast in the morning so we scheduled some extra thermal flights after lunchtime. Thanks to Wil, Lani and Max we would like to have more USQ students visit us in the future.

01.01.2022 More rain on the way.

01.01.2022 It was a busy weekend out at the club with Alex Fogale getting his B certificate and Kassie Cole getting her first two flights in the Discus on Sunday. Good to see Gareth Bowen back to lessons again Thanks to Matt and Ivor for the instructing over the weekend and to Val and Mal for the towing. Sunday was a perfect nil wind day absolutely zero wind the first time I can remember 2kt thermals up to 5,500ft.

01.01.2022 Our first weekend with independent operators only observing social distancing, clubhouse closed until further notice. Great to be back in the air again over the Southern Darling Downs. Thanks to locals Val and Mal for the tows.
