25.01.2022 Australian War Memorial Exhibition After the War will be commencing on 11 October 2018 and will run for twelve months. Part of our video Kookaburras will be shown as part of this exhibition.

24.01.2022 Some of our members recently attended a lunch at the Canberra Services Club. Shirley Percival presented on behalf of the ACT War Widows, a folder to the Canberra Services Clubs President Mike Kinniburgh. The folder contained memorabilia including photos of the opening of the Services Club. The President said the club was very grateful as all information on the history of the club perished in the fire of 2011 when the club burnt to the ground.



22.01.2022 Our President Shirley Percival was among those who attended the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Service. On 18 August every year, we remember those who served and died in Vietnam. The ACT War Widows are delighted that Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley has agreed to be our Patron

22.01.2022 We wish to advise that Norma McNamee, a War Widow from OConnor, died on 5/11/18. Her funeral will be held at St Josephs church, OConnor, on Friday 16th November at 11am.

19.01.2022 ACT President Shirley Percival attended the annual memorial service for the HMAS Canberra on the 10th August 2018 to commemorate the loss of the citys name sake heavy cruiser at the Battle of Savo Island in 1942.

19.01.2022 Our Anzac Field of Remembrance Ceremony was held at RSL Lifecare El Alamein Village at Lyneham last month. Each year, we write the names of loved ones on wooden crosses and plant them in the grass. Governor General Peter Cosgrove also joined the service this year.

16.01.2022 Today on Remembrance Day, and the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, we pause and reflect on the sacrifices of all current and former ADF personnel. Lest we forget.

16.01.2022 The best Australian Documentary photographer for 2020 is our own Jamie van Leeuwen, who manages our Facebook page. This honour was awarded by the Melbourne documentary film festival. Jamie submitted photos from his photo book titled Melbourne without the crowds’, a portion of the proceeds of which he donated to Launch Housing, an organisation working to reduce homelessness. He also made a video, which can be viewed on www.australialockeddown.com. ... Well done Jamie!

06.01.2022 The ACT War Widows celebrated with the widows of the Korean War at the 65th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. Among the guests were Korean widows, Judith Young and her daughter Dallas, Mary Cummings, Judy Rowe and Margaret Chinn. After the memorial ceremony, the Korean Ambassador held a lunch at the Canberra Yacht Club.

04.01.2022 At our Christmas lunch. Matthew, our music man, had everyone’s feet tapping. It was a wonderful afternoon with good food, good company and good music.

04.01.2022 David Jenkins, the producer of our Kookaburras video on the making of our Centenary Gift to the Canberra Services Club, has been invited to submit this video in the USA to the Hollywood New Film Makers Section about veterans. One of the judges will be Sofia Coppola who is the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, a well-known film Director and Producer.

03.01.2022 A very enjoyable lunch was held at the Canberra Services Club in Barton on Tuesday 26th February. The event was enjoyed by both Canberra and Queanbeyan Widows. We hope to repeat the lunch again soon.
