The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning. ************************************************ IDV21037 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in Central, East Gippsland, South West, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and parts of Wimmera Forecast Districts. Issued at 3:15 pm Tuesday, 28 May 2019. Windy over Southern and Mountain Areas. A cold front is expected to cross the State tonight and early Wednesday. Strong and squally westerly winds are expected to turn southwesterly following the passage of the front. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are expected along parts of the coast and Alpine areas (above 1200 metres) during the remainder of today. Wind gusts may reach 110 km/h over the Alpine area later tonight. Wind gusts may reach 110 km/h over the Alpine area. Local thunderstorms or heavy showers with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are possible tomorrow in the warning area. Blizzard conditions are likely to develop in the Alpine area tonight before continuing tomorrow. Southwesterly winds will moderate from the west during Wednesday afternoon. Locations which may be affected include Warrnambool, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne, Traralgon and Bairnsdale. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; * Keep clear of fallen power lines; The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Tuesday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217.
