22.01.2022 While we always lean towards organic ingredients wherever we can (coconut, cacao and shea butter to name just a few), there are times when other values (low ingredient miles, freshness, supporting local economies) take precedence. When a local nurse, known for her extensive, spray free, food and herb garden offers calendula petals the answer was a resounding "yes please".An oil extraction with the purchased calendula was a failure, with very little of the vibrancy of the pl...ant to be found in the oil, however an extraction with the fresh, local calendula was rich and bursting with colour and goodness. And in the best traditions of bartering, Susan (the calendula gatherer) went home with her favourite bar of soap. 19.01.2022 CREATIVITY ABOUNDS WITH A SKILLED CHEF IN THE SOAP KITCHEN One of the lovely things about welcoming new staff onto the Washpool team is the fresh new perspectives they bring. While we're busy producing our regular bars there's happy banter, as dozens of ideas are kicked around. Some of them are 'out there', some won't work (ask me how I know), but there are gems in there that have real merit. Not wanting to stifle creativity, we trial new ideas or new ingredients to see how... they turn out. Promising variations are made in 1kg batches and if they get the nod from staff and family on cutting day they have a pretty good chance of being welcomed into the Luxe Bar range. Last week it was our brand new L1 Luxe bar with Lavender, Chamomile and Sandalwood and this week we introduce our new L10, with Lemon Myrtle & Zest Myrtle. And if you haven't heard of Zest Myrtle, there's a very good reason for that. Grown here in our region, Zest Myrtle was only introduced as a commercially available essential oil in 2016. When you're gifting bars - not only does the box make wrapping simpler but the person receiving the bar will be confident using it when they can see all the beautiful ingredients it's made with. As makers, we choose to offer our range to you at 'direct to client' prices so you can purchase what you want, when you want it, with confidence. 10.01.2022 EVERYONE THINKS THEY HAVE THE BEST DOG ... AND NONE OF THEM ARE WRONG (W. R. PURCHE) If you've visited our Eco Store Soaperie in Ballandean, there's a good chance you may have been greeted by a little lad called Dickens (aka Mr D), or even a piglet (Nudge). Or perhaps you've said hello to the playful goats next door. For us, and so many of our customers, our animals are family. Nothing gives us more pleasure than to see them happy, healthy and contented. Years ago we ow...ned a border collie (Dollar - don't ask) who had the worst grass allergies. The more it itched, the more she rubbed her pink belly on the grass, making things worse. The only thing that brought relief was to remove the irritant, and while we knew it was temporary at least it stopped the cycle for a time. When I formulated our Dog Shampoo Bars I set out to create a bar very similar to one I'd formulate for a human with extremely sensitive skin. Loads of olive oil, goat's milk, neem and other skin friendly oils combine to provide a great cleanse without irritating their sensitive noses or skin. In all the years we've been making our Dog Shampoo the formula has stayed the same because our customers keep telling us how well it's working for their dogs.
