23.01.2022 We have set up a group page so you can post pictures of your plants, pollinators and even pests that visit your bee garden. #BeeChallenge2020

23.01.2022 We have commissioned one of our young farm helpers to identify what lives in the dam. Using a USB microscope she has found this pin head sized water mite. How creepy and alien looking, but also amazing find. We look forward to her full set of reports....

23.01.2022 It is with much anguish, shock and grief that we farewell friend of the farm (and very dear personal friend) Dean Deano Allen. In Apri, 2019, he volunteered for back breaking work, mowing 6KM of grass by hand (old push along victor mower), painted 800 dots to indicate where each wind breaker tree will go and help plant hundreds. As these trees grow, they will shelter us from harsh winds and bring back local fauna. Poetic tribute to a man who was always there to help and sup...port others. Our sincere condolences to his mother, siblings and extensive network of friends. I will never forget, every time I look at those trees, the incredible man who helped man the Foundation Planting Day possible. May he Rest In Peace

22.01.2022 We have run out of seeds but fulfilled all requests that were sent. You will receive one of 3 Packets, which are listed at the end. Now time to get planting! 18.01.2022 How determined is this bee!

17.01.2022 So many pollinators out and about today. Hoverflys, drone flies and lists of blondie bees from our hive.

15.01.2022 We are inviting people to share their pollinator journeys on a group page. You do not have to join. You can just send pics via email. So do not feel obliged to join The group link so you can share your journeys is below:... https://www.facebook.com/groups/892288128175433/?ref=share

14.01.2022 In today’s inspection, we managed to get footage of a bee doing the waggle dance! This is a form of communication for the bees, telling other hive-mates where good resources are located. The duration of the waggle run indicates the distance/effort required to get to the resource and the angle at which the dance is done shows the direction to fly in relation to the sun - we’ll add a picture in the comments for you to get the idea and perhaps you can tell us what the bee is sa...ying? Pictured: Our apiarist inspecting the hive.

13.01.2022 Soooo much mowing, so much more to do. The olive brown you see is the grass with seeds. We slash and drop so that the nutrients go back into the soil.

13.01.2022 So much happening on the farm!

13.01.2022 So many European bees on the borage!

12.01.2022 Have you seen something like this crawling on your plants? Looks like an ugly little critter, perhaps a pest, something you may want to swat off your plant? Fact: This is how most ladybugs look like in their larval stage. So next time you see one, be happy, for that means you have some aphid eating troops in your garden.... Pictured: Lady Bug Larvae before metamorphosis.

08.01.2022 Our European bees continue to amaze us at how they adapt. Given only a small runway, the girls who are flying out tend to climb up then fly, so as to keep the runway free for those coming home. We could watch them for hours, they are so fascinating, and we are seeing the range of colours of the pollen legs, which tells us they are foraging multiple sources at one - from white pollen to fluorescent orange pollen.... In the coming months we will be looking at installing a low power IoT sensor to measure temperature and humidity remotely. Some scientific literature suggests that sudden drops in temperature can indicate either colony collapse or swarming event. What can we say, we are data nerds We will be correlating the data with our onsite weather station to baseline what is normal vs abnormal temperatures.

01.01.2022 One of the friends of the farm is building a local Phillip Island gift boxes with responsibly sourced awesome items and a proportion of the profits going to the charity. They are due to go live in the next week or so .
