11.01.2022 How to Find a European Wasp Nest? Finding a European wasp nest is relatively easy because they fly in a straight line from feeding back to their nest; When you have a nest within a few hundred metres you will have plenty of them visible in the garden. Theyre on the lookout for water and food. So the idea is to give it to them and then follow them back to the nest, youll need to provide a feeding point. Place a bowl in clear view with some meat in it where you can keep an ey...e on it. After they have fed they will take off and fly in a straight line back to their nest.You probably wont be able to follow them all the way: theyre pretty small and they fly pretty fast. So move your trap about 20 metres along the line of flight, then come back in an hour or so and watch where theyre flying. If they are still flying in the same direction then move the trap another 20 metres down the line. Keep doing this until you come across the nest. 09.01.2022 Wasp v. Bee for those that need to ID. Not so easy in flight but you can pick em by the slightly softer flight of the wasp. Their long curved antennae is a qu...ick way of ID. The color is very striking in the wasp not so in the bee. Bees are more hairy also. Many people mistake Wasps for Bees. Easily done. Once you get stung you will know the difference. Enjoy.
