18.01.2022 Coming up soon!

18.01.2022 Great reminder from Plastic Free July: The festive season has begun and many people are organising celebrations, both big and small. If you're asked to contribute some food, consider taking it along in a reusable container rather than a bowl covered in plastic. (This will also be helpful if there are any leftovers as you can easily put the lid back on and take it home with you). If you don't have a container that is suitable, you may be able to use a beeswax wrap or even a clean tea towel to cover the top of your dish. You can turn your next event into a plastic waste-free one with a bit of planning and creativity. You may need a team of people who can help you out. It’s usually easier that way, plus you can share ideas and challenges and celebrate wins together.

14.01.2022 Some tips from Face Your Waste: Who knows what those vents are for on your fridge’s crisper drawers? These drawers are actually an important tool in reducing food waste if you know how to use them! Here are a few handy tips: A good idea is to have one drawer high humidity (closed vent), and one drawer low humidity (open vent). As a general rule, use the high humidity drawer for items that wilt like leafy vegetables or asparagus.... Almost all fruits, and vegetables that rot, are usually best in the low humidity drawer. They work well when about 2/3 full so don’t overfill. If you want to know more about separating your fruit and veg and the impact of ethylene gas (produced by ripening fruit and veg), take a look at this great article See more

The idea is that you use a clean 'tissue' then pop it in the top of the box where it is secured away from the next clean tissue. Once all the tissues have been used, you wash and refill. Over and over again.

01.01.2022 As we head into the silly season, it's good to know what to do with the waste that you didn't quite avoid... << Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)>> Are you familiar with that rigid white packaging typically surrounding fragile or electronic goods? Well, it CAN actually be recycled ! Just not in your yellow top bin. Bring your EPS to a drop-off point like Tamala Park, Balcatta Recycling Centre or Claw Environmental. The polystyrene will get a second chance at life, recycled into ...granules which are then reused to make other plastic products. Last financial year Mindarie Regional Council, who operate Tamala Park, collected a staggering 18 tonnes - amazing considering it is so light! That's 18 tonnes that didn't go to landfill!
