22.01.2022 I N N A T U R E W A S T E D O E S N O T E X I S T. . Everything - yes, EVERYTHING thats made gets reused, recycled, upcycled and eventually returned to earth, to improve our soils. . ... Well, as for us humans....... We extract, use, maybe use once again and then chuck things into a giant hole to sit there for hundreds of years, locking away resources that cant be used again. Did you know only 9% of all the plastic produced in the world has been recycled?Landfill is such a design flaw of our modern lives. . This week, is there ONE LESS THING you can feed your bins? 18.01.2022 PROGRAM LAUNCH MATES WITH WASTE We are thrilled to introduce you to this program just kicked off by Tanya Lewis @Eco Organiser. Tanya is a MornPen local with an impressive background in waste management and sustainable packaging. ... . Waste is only waste when we throw it away. With recycling systems under pressure to cope with the mountains of waste, and societies growing expectation that everything should be recycled, the reality is, not everything can be recycled. Some because of poor design , others the practicality of separating commingled materials such as paper from plastics, leather from plastic. The key to reducing waste is to slow down wasteful consumption, but until we see a global movement to change, there is something we can do and that is to become mates with waste. says Tanya. . Over the coming weeks, we will share some of Tanyas tips to reduce, reuse and repurpose waste. . #1 Can you recycle bread tags? Yes you can, in fact they are used to make wheelchairs for people in need. Collect them at home or in the office and send them off for recycling. There 2 ways to do this in Aussie Bread Bags or TerraCycle Australia. As much as it would be great to not have bread tags, not everyone can buy bread any other way, but it's good to know you can recycle the tags. Mornington Peninsula Shire

18.01.2022 LITTLE KNOWN FOOD FACTS In Australia, 35% of the the average household bin is made up of food waste....thats one in every 5 bags of groceries going to waste! . A whopping 5 million tons of food ends up as landfill - enough to fill 9,000 Olympic pools. ... . Meanwhile, four million Aussies experience food insecurity each year (one quarter are children). . Take that to a global level, one third of all food produced is lost or wasted. . Wondering about the carbon footprint ? Yep. Big! 8% of greenhouse gases are caused by food waste ... if food waste was a country, it would be the third biggest emitter of greenhouse gases after China and the US. Were stoked our Council is working hard behind the scenes to roll out FOGO bins - diverting food waste from landfill to make juicy compost! Cintia is an Ayurvedic (ancient Indian natural medicine) lifestyle consultant and founder of Aromito - named after a traditional Argentinian tree. We talked to Cintia about her products and heres what she shared - The aim of Aromito is to provide products that help people improve the quality of their life, while embracing ethical production and zero waste. In my country I do all the process of production (from grow the plants to stamp the packaging of the final product). I came here only a few months ago so I cant do all those things at this stage as yet (it takes time). As you can see I spend a lot of time trying to create the best products (where I can put my knowledge in Ayurvedic) and make personalised products depending on the needs of each person. Everything is made with love and consciousness. If you provide your own container, I apply a discount on the products. The first pics are products than I can make (deodorant, lip balm, ayurvedic toothpaste and solid shampoo). Solid shampoo is the best seller 1x$15 and 2x$25 made with virgin coconut oil and Oat. I can make these for dry or oily hair depends the person! Love your work! Message Cintia here (or via insta) with your questions or orders at Aromito Eco-productos

02.01.2022 What? The world's biggest plastic polluters want to run Victoria's Container Deposit Schemes??? No way. Let's nip it in the bud!!!! It takes 10 seconds to add your signature here: https://www.change.org/p/daniel-andrews-parliament-vic-gov-... Here's how you can provide more detailed feedback: https://www.boomerangalliance.org.au/have_your_say_on_the_d BACKGROUND -- Victoria is the last state to take a Container Refund Scheme (CRS) on board, but that puts us in the position of being able to choose the best type of CRS! We've learnt some lessons from the recent schemes in Queensland and New South Wales, particularly for the needs of urban and regional areas, refund point convenience, cost and charities. The beverage industry that aggressively opposed any type of refund on drink bottles and cans for years, now wants to be in charge. Coke, XXXX Gold and Powerade want to run the CDS which would mean fewer refund points and depots, less opening hours so they can minimise the number of returns and their cost of having to pay 10c to customers and handling fees to recyclers. Boomerang Alliance, the charity, waste management, recycling and municipal associations oppose this. Please help us stop the world's biggest polluters running our CDS. #cds Lily D'Ambrosio MP Lilo Cafe Dolphin Research Institute BERG Mt Martha Boomerang Alliance Boomerang Bags Mount Martha Life Saving Club Mount Martha Yacht Club Foundation Bulk Food Store Plastic Free Peninsula The Peninsula's Last Straw Mornington Peninsula Shire Beach Patrol Australia Sarah Wilson Despi O'Connor
